Who will get AP, Turner, Lynch?????
Band of Merriman replied to Dibs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good points, but you can eliminate the Cowboys from consideration. While there may be questions regarding Jones, they have Marion Barber in the fold. He's taken over when they get inside the 20 and he's pushing Jones for the starting job. I actually wouldn't be suprised to see them move Jones and their 1st to try to move up into the 1st round to get a quality corner. Their #3 back (Tyson Thompson) has shown some promise as well. I agree with the rest of what you said. I think the Browns are the key to where AP ends up, unless someone moves up to get him. -
Good post! I completely agree. If Turners price goes beyond our 3rd this year I opt for plan B and go after the best available back with our 2nd, if Peterson is gone before 12 (which I'm pretty sure he will be).

Write it down. Turner will not go for a #1 pick this year. If the Chargers let him walk next year they're not guarenteed any compensatory picks. That's determined by the number of free agents they sign. From the Chargers perspective they may be better off keeping him as insurance as they are positioned to do well next year. Trading our 1st or 2nd for an impressive career back up doesn't make sense. IMO the most i'd offer is a 3rd and a 5th next year or i'd opt for a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round this year.

A few more Avatar's like yours and I won't need the blue pills.

AJ did a good job of giving everyone the perception that the Chargers are in the driver's seat. The fact that they had such an outstanding season last year also drives that perception. As long as multiple teams are showing interest, Turner's value will remain high. For that reason I'd like to see us slow down on our pursuit of Turner. Not stop pursuit, just back off a bit. Let's face it, they won't be keeping Turner next year and they don't want to let him go for nothing. Tagging him next year isn't an option because the cost would be far too great to keep Turner and LT. That really only leaves AJ 2 choices; trade Turner before/during the draft or wait for an in season injury and try and trade him then. I41 would much rather see us hold out until after we've made our selection at #12. If Peterson falls to us at 12 then Turner is a non-issue.

The "Dean"??? What are you the "dean" of, ill informed overopinionated shortsighted web posters? Before commenting again, why don't you have your 7 year old sister reread my post and then have her S L O W L Y explain it to you. I didn't suggest posters were suggesting we were offering our 1st and 2nd, I said our 1st OR 2nd. I've seen numerous posts suggesting we give up our 2nd and additional picks. IMO Turner's value will continue to come down and we'll be able to get Turner for a 3rd and a later day 2 pick. To think that the McGahee trade didn't establish a reference point for a starting running backs value is absolute nonsense. You can also look to the Thomas Jones trade. All the Jets did was swap 2nd's. McGahee at the very least would rank in the top 15-20 RB's. Based on Turner's career accomplishments, if you put Turner above that level you've had too many Tootsie Rolls and Kool-aid and it's time for you to lie down and take your nap young man. Thanks for reminding me about my meds. I just took a couple "blue pills" and now it's time for my 24 year old Swedish nurse to give me my sponge bath. Don't wait up.

For those of you willing to part with our 1st or 2nd pick plus, Let me just say I'm glad you're not our GM. (Boy I hope that one of you isn't Marv in disguise.) The going rate for a starting RB has already been established as a 3rd (see the McGahee deal). While Turner may have low miles and back up the leagues top RB, he isn't as established as a WM. Offering more than what we received in return for WM would be a mistake. If the Titan's want to overpay let them. I'd be willing to part with our 3rd or be just as happy to see us select a RB with that pick.

As a Bills fan in Dallas I'm very up on the Cowgirls. Early in Jones' career he was heavily criticized by the Tuna for taking himself out of games due to getting dinged. Parcell's expected him to be tougher and play through the pain. Jones never did that well. Barber has been playing a greater role in the offense. It's to the point that when inside the 10 it's Barber that's in the game and not Jones. I could see Barber moving into the starting role if Jones stays in Dallas, so I think they'd be open to this trade scenario. That being said, the 'boys o'line has not been good for the last several years and I would like to see this deal happen, if Marv was confident that we'd be able to get Poz or Willis (if he truly slips this far) at 22. If he feels we can get Peterson at 12 then I stay right where we are. Peterson would be the best back we've had since Thurman.

Best Free Agents left???
Band of Merriman replied to JuanGuzman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that Lavar's time has passed. I really like Bryant a lot, but unfortunately based on his actions in 3 previous stops, there's no way our front office brings him in here. He'll probably be too expensive as well. What about David Carr??? The main drawback is that he'd probably cost too much and that would be a large chunk of $ tied up in one position. I would like to see Marv & co trade for M Turner, but only if it's for a 3rd and we're able to sign him to an extension. -
My New McGahee jersey........

The new name patch I'm having sewn on my 21 Throwback jersey WHO'S YOU'RE DADDY?? -
2 picks would be too many. Hold fast to a 3rd at most. He's proven himself as a solid back up, but there's nothing out there showing he can handle the load as your primary back. Plus he's free after next year, so you know the deal would require we sign him to an extension. When that happens there goes more of our "cash to cap". AJ is posturing for 2 picks and he's leaving it to the market to decide. If we stay patient and wait SD out I bet we can get him for the 3rd, otherwise use our 2nd pick on the best back available, unless Peterson is there at 12.

Marv has said before that he likes to have the players compete. I would love to see him here. I think he's got the skills to be successful in the NFL, but he's been stuck on a bad team. He would definitely push JP. Unfortunately I don't see him coming here. I see him in Oakland where he can start right away and that'll allow them to draft Calvin Johnson.

Now son, turn your head and cough...

As you indicated, established starters have been trading for 3rd round picks. I like turner, but for RB's this is a buyer's market and I wouldn't give more than a 3rd for him. I'd also want to have a new contract negotiated and in place or no deal. No point in taking on this guy for just 1 season.

I wouldn't mind seeing receiving corps upgraded
Band of Merriman replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is there any chance the Bills try to shore up this area through free agency? There are 2 veteran players that I like that are still out there (last I checked) Antonio Bryant and Keenan McCardell. I know Bryant has attitude issues and that may prevent him from fitting in here, but he's got talent, he's young and we may be able to get him on more of an incentive based contract while he rehabs his image. -
Next head coach in Big D?
Band of Merriman replied to Blue Chipper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's highly unlikely that Jerry Jones will bring in a head coach that will demand a larger say in the direction of the organization (personell decisions). He did that with Parcell's and that didn't work. Look for him to bring in a guy that knows the pecking order in Big D and that would be Norv Turner. Jerry's comfortable with him and he's an O guy that can continue to bring Tony Homo along. If you want a good laugh check out Drew Bledsoe's spoof blog on Romo at www.tonyhomo.com Being a Bills fan in Big D I wish nothing but failure on the Boys. It would be a great early Christmas present if they'd bring in Mularkey! -
I am totally underwhelmed with our moves at WR. I hope they work out, but I just don't see it. We've signed 3 WR's to sizeable contracts. Reed can't catch the ball. Davis has been hurt and has never been a stellar performer and PP was out of football the 2nd half of last year and hasn't performed well since he left Buffalo. And we sign them all to $2mm+/yr??? (Davis' may have been less, I can't remember what his contract was for.) Maybe the competion will bring out the best in one of them. None of this will matter much if we don't build up a line that'll give our QB time to throw the ball.
