That's what was rumored after the trade. It's just another thing that irritated many.

Just my opinion, but I don't think the Bills are targeting Pettigrew. Most analysts have been of the opinion that Pettigrew would be there at 21, but not at 28. If the Bills were that interested in Pettigrew IMO they would have taken the Philly offer of the 21st pick and 3rd round pick as opposed to pushing for the additional pick next year. This would have left them in a better position to get him.

Trading up for Andre Smith
Band of Merriman replied to RockPile007's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO no way we move up in this draft. By itself the guarenteed $ associated with moving up are prohibative. Buffalo's not going to invest long term guarenteed $ into a possible unproven head case. For the cost in picks to move up we'd have been better off keeping a proven young talented LT, than an unproven possible head case. -
Really?? Aside from the TO 1 year signing (which may be more of a publicity stunt to keep butts in seats) what significant FA have the Bills signed since TKO? Face it, unless we overpay, quality FA's will visit Buffalo to drive up their asking price and then sign somewhere else. No one else wanted TO, that's the only reason he's in Buffalo. Even Tony Gonzalez wouldn't accept a trade to the Bills last year and at that time we were at least in the playoff hunt. Bills fans will have to continue to be content with the signing of 2nd tier or lower FA's. Very disappointing.

Players On The Trading Block
Band of Merriman replied to PistolPeaTear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Boldin's on record as saying he'd like to play for a team that's a contender. If he hits free agency he's not coming here. -
I've never been a fan of drafting for need in the early rounds, unless the player is a virtual lock. It tends to make teams reach for players that aren't always a good fit. IMO it's best to take the best player available, if there's a significant difference in talent. I expect Crabtree to be gone by #11, but if he's there the Bills would be foolish to pass on him. For those of you that fell we're loaded at WR, I guess we've been watching different offenses over the last few years. Evans - is a top flight receiver. Owens - another top flight receiver, but probably not a Bill for more than 1 season. Parrish - great return man, but disappears in the offense. Reed - average at best. Hardy - coming off a knee injury and a forgetable rookie year. Johnson - showed some flashes in 2 games, but there's still a lot of development that needs to take place. Bills loaded at WR... sorry don't think so.

The Jason Peters issue, here is the solution.
Band of Merriman replied to freedom2528's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's not worth 11.5mm. He had one good year 2 years ago and a down year last year. He's under contract for 2 more seasons so,he can take the Bills good will offer or leave it. IMO the FO has a good handle on the market and there's no need to overpay. Sorry, I like JP, but he hasn't earned or played up to the level to support 11.5m/yr. Also, it doesn't help that he's been hurt at the end of each of the last 2 seasons. That's too much money to tie up in a player who's starting to show injury concerns and inconsistent performance. -
It's been really irritating to listen to the ESPN & The Fan networks here in Dallas over the weekend. They keep saying that this was a move to sell tickets because attendance was so poor in Buffalo (I'm paraphasing). Um, excuse me, we have one of the largest capacity stadiums and didn't we sell out every game except Toronto?
-
If he has one good season with us why not use the franchise tag?? THis is presuming he doesn't want ot sign a new deal at the end of the season. TO should be happy because he's still getting his $$ and being paid an average of the top 5 WR's at 36-37. The negative would be that for him it's not a multi year deal. Just a thought.

Marshawn Lynch And Draft Picks.
Band of Merriman replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Character does matter. They don't have to be choir boys but they do have to have enough common sense to keep from hurting the team. So far James Hardy hasn't done anything stupid and hopefully Marshawn's problems are serving as a lesson to him. JMO Uhmmm, I suspect the gun Hardy pulled on his estranged father could have been considered a noble act. -
Adam Schefter reports that there has only been one
Band of Merriman replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TO's going to go to a team with a shot at the title. That immediately eliminates the Raiders, Lions, etc. I could see him ending up with the Vikings. If the Jets quarterback situation were better he'd be a fit there as well. Based on the locker room issues he causes I don't see the Pats making a run at him even if he offered to play for less. In Dallas when things started going south he was bitchin about not getting the ball enough. With Moss, Welker and co. I don't know that they'd have enough balls to throw TO's way to keep him happy. -
The rich get richer.
-
What system is that? The skill position receiver that they can't get the ball to or the skill position receiver that can't make a big play? I would love Boldin here. But realistically there's no way AZ will let him go. For a team that's poised to make another run at the super bowl there's no way they reduce their chances by letting him go.
-
Right now there is no established #2 receiver on the Bills roster. Jackson or Hardy might grow into that in another couple of years, but they're not there right now. IMO I'd prefer to see Torry Holt here as our #2. If he could be had for a low level pick and then restructure and extend his contract to something along the lines of Coles 3 yr $18m. I like Coles and wouldn't mind having him here, but the 3 yrs $18m is overpaying for him.

Why Do The Bills Like Backup Centers as Starters?
Band of Merriman replied to _ROOKIE_'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, that always works out well!! (See Mike Williams) -
I'm sorry, but I disagree. Have you not seen our offense? It's downright offensive. Aside from a 28 year old Lee Evans, our receiving corps is weak. Parrish who's inconsistent and is best in the return game. Hardy, who has size, but ran poor routes, played somewhat sparingly and is coming off a knee injury. (Will he even be ready to play next year?) Reed who's been average at best. And Steve Johnson?? I liked what I saw from Johnson, but he had a total of 10 receptions. Crabtree is one of the best players in the draft. There's no way he slides to us, but if he somehow does he better be wearing a Bills uni.
-
Why would we need to pay Coles what Sea is giving Housh? Housh is the superior receiver. Coles doesn't warrant what Housh will receive. My suspicion is the Bills offer is right in line with what Cole' value is. If Cincy wants to overpay for him let them. I'd like to see Coles here, but I wouldn't mind seeing Washington here as well. Washington is younger and has more upside. Unfortunately I think he may be on his way to Tenn.

We won't cover the spread this week
Band of Merriman replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would really like to see us come out aggressive on offense. Pick up where we left off against Oak and take some shots with some deep to intermediate range passes and hopefully get the Rams back on their heels. I think the thing that could hurt us the most is what almost killed us against Oak. Turnovers and not properly game planning for the defensive pressure they mounted. I still don't understand why we didn't try to run a few screens and turn Oaks attacking style against them?? I don't think that we're cocky enough to take anyone lightly, so I'm not looking at this like a trap game. IMO Buffalo covers the spread, but the Rams hold their first opponent under 30 Final Bills 27 Rams 17 -
Do you get chills when a light breeze blows? I think you may be just a little too thin skinned. Take a joke dude. Why not focus on the fact that he ranked the Bills 4th overall and #1 in the AFC?? After all these years of no recognition, we finally start getting some props and your sole focus is on a tongue in cheek comment?

Did anyone catch the jack@ss CBS announce crew..
Band of Merriman replied to Heels20X6's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm having difficulty putting into words just how frustrating it was listening to Fouts carry on about kicking the field goal. First off the TD is tougher to acheive, so you have to get the TD 1st if you're in position to do so. Secondly, the D has to stop the Raiders offense. If they drive down and kick a field goal (after you kick one) you're right back where you started. But if you score the TD and then hold them to a FG you still have a shot. The last good game Fouts announced was with Brent Musberger when Bobby Boucher led the Mud Dogs to victory in the Burboun bowl. Remember, they won (and by forgoing the field goal) because they didn't hold anything back. Dan, you need to stick to movie announcing. -
It's great to see some positive press for a change. Over the next few weeks I expect to see more. I agree with some other posts that feel the D-line has been a key part to our "turnaround". The ability to pressure the QB consistently, without having to blitz every down, makes the secondary that much more effective. Our secondary hasn't been tested by any top flight receivers yet and really won't be until we face "Zona. It'll be interesting to see how we meet this challenge, since it's also a road game.

Will Poz be fined for that facemask on MJD?
Band of Merriman replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, I didn't think it looked malicious either. No blood, no foul, no fine.
