  1. Preston didn't practice at LG, he practiced at C and RG. He replaced Villarial in more than a few games during the course of the game. He had ups and downs. I'm a fan though and he is absolutely vital to this O-Line. Jauron said the other day that they only intend on dressing 7 O lineman a game. Preston gives them that flexibility as he is the number 1 backup at all 3 interior positions. Jerman would be the other reserve who can play either tackle and can also play a bit of guard if need be. It takes several years for Olineman to really come into form. The Patriots are the exception that proves the rule.
  2. 1. Bassey - PS 2. Jackson - PS 3. Pennington -PS 4. J. Thomas – PS 5. A. Merz - PS 6. K. Thomas 7. M. Haggan 8. J. DiGiorgio 9. J. Odom 10. C. Wire 11. J. Leonhard 12. J. Jefferson 13. L. Sape 14. R. Neill 15. J. Hall 16. J. Smith 17. A. Davis 18. S. Williams 19. J. Goldsberry 20. J. Burns 21. B. Cieslak 22. J. Stamer That wasn't too tough. Potentially losing a lot of Special teams performers, but keeping the guys that are better in their positions (ie Wilson over Smith, Ellison over Stamer) The new guys are gonna have to bring it on special teams.
  3. I was talking about Euhus. Also "high school" was the operative qualifier. He looked like a gangly 18 year old. Gates and Gonzalez look like football players that may have once played basketball.
  4. Yeah, he is really skinny. Saw him in person in street clothes and he doesn't look like a football player. Looked more like a high school basketball player. I knew then that this guy might have a lot of trouble making it if he was hurt at all.
  5. Hmm, actually I would replace one of these guys with Ellison. Probably Goldsberry.
  6. Practice Squad's are 8 men right? And those 8 must meet certain restrictions I believe- like having been active 4 or fewer games the previous year? It's something like that. Is it customary to keep those that you wish to assign there until the last cut? If this is the case, my prediction would be: Practice Squad: E. Bassey, CB T. Pennington, OT M. Nance, WR J. Goldsberry, FB J. Thomas, OG A. Merz, C F. Jackson, RB One of those DEs Cut to get down to 75: J. Bethea, CB R. Lee, CB C. Denney, WR J. Burns, RB J. DiGiorgio, LB N. Setta, K/P One of those DEs D. McFarland, OT C. Wire, S Wire, McFarland, and Burns are the big ones. McFarland has been given enough opportunities to progress. Wire doesn't fit the defensive scheme (you know, where a DB is actually required to cover someone), and Burns seems the odd man out- have plenty of larger backs, and Ricard is a real FB to back up/eventually replace Shelton. Lose a little bit of special teams skill here, but other guys will step up.
  7. I believe in this instance it would still be over a 50 yarder. But I don't disagree if the option is there to pick up enough to get in reasonable fg range. Which I guess may have been in this case. I'm not actually able to watch the game unfortunately.
  8. Not to sound like an apologist for JP for that interception- but that circumstance is where you would throw a riskier pass down the field. 3rd in long around the other teams 40. Not in field goal range, a punt will likely result in a touchback. So really a 20 yard risky pass is about the same as a punt. Though obviously if there were better options on the play that would have resulted in a first down, he should have taken that. But an int in that circumstance isn't really a big deal.
  9. sweet, mine seems to be like 5 minutes behind real time, which is kind of weird, but no complaints
  10. Tucker was outspoken and Dobahoe probably didn't like him... BUT the reason he was realeased was his ongoing back injury that basically ended up keeping him out of football for a year and a half.
  11. Have followed the 49ers relatively closely over the past 4 years. The guy was great sharing the ball with Hearst. He has great power and speed. Early on he was known as a major fumbler, but sort of shook that reputation with the success he shared with Hearst. Got the job full time and became pedestrian. Seemed to run slower and with less power. Of course this may have been that the 49ers turned to crap those years and several of there old o-line stalwarts left to free agency - Stone and Gragg. They've had major O-line problems the past 3 years. He could have a big year with a change of scenery and better blocking.
  12. He truly is a terrible announcer. It's bad when you find yourself routinely shouting corrections at him while watching the game at home. Has a propensity to confuse offensive and defensive players' names, a feat seldom accomplished by professional broadcasters. Then doesn't even bother to correct his glaring mistakes. Justin Geisinger on the blitz!
  13. A good front four doesn't hide the fact that he can't cover anybody. He's just not very good and hasn't been for quite a few years.
  14. good insights! I also come away not feeling too bad about the game. Our D only allowed 7 points. That's not half bad. Though the first drive was ugly. They may need to switch McGee (or give him some help) when he's up against talented receivers that are 8 inches taller than him. Just a thought. One big difference between the feel this year and the last few is that we're watching a team that should progress and grow into a better one. Last year (on D especially) and the Bledsoe years seemed to be one of this is all we got and as good as we're getting.
  15. Pretty good rankings. Vincent is too high though- I think 84 or 85 is more accurate. Otherwise I would only maybe change a rating by 1 or 2 points here and there. Good job
  16. Very unusual and questionable that they would have a first rounder in McCargo rated lower than our 3rd and 4th rnd picks. They typically always in the past determined rookie ratings by draft position. Disappointed with EA in these rankings.
  17. Well I'm glad somebody was doing their job and hopefully completely broke this thing up. I also hope that its not just BS to boost Bush and Blair in the polls (I think the past 5 years have given us ample reason to be skeptical of these kind of reports). Also, please, enough of the stupid French bashing. It reminds me of political discussions I had when I was 12 and didn't know sh*t.
  18. WGR's morning show was pretty rough on Schoop and the Bulldog about this today. They pretty much tore them apart for finding anything unreasonable about Marv with a clipboard. Had a pretty funny top 10 reasons why its ok he has a roster with him. As a fan of Schoop and Bulldog, I didn't hear the show, but their criticism seems totally absurd. I'm glad Marv has a roster in front of him!
  19. Worst Post Ever I don't even know where to begin to explain just how foolish this post is.
  20. Sounds like a guy we just released. He wouldn't fit our new D scheme, but just in that preseason game yesterday he made about as many plays as Posey makes in a season.
  21. Robert Gallery looked like Dylan McFarland at LT. Looked unathletic and weak. Overpowered by linebackers. Talk about a major disappointment. Mike Williams looked all-pro compared to him (though he never was on the left side). From the bit I saw of Justice, I thought he played ok and was moderately impressed. But I may have missed some blunders as I was flippin a bit. Garcia looks like he's totally done. I saw Huff completely miss Mahi on a screen, for whatever that's worth. Didn't see him near the ball otherwise.
