  1. he was considered arguably the top TE in the draft because he was considered the best complete TE. Ran terribly at the combine - a 4.89. But reportedly ran a 4.72 and a 4.67 at the on-campus workout according to Chris Brown. In my mind, he now becomes a major consideration in the 2nd or 3rd. here's a real link - newspaper says his combine stunk because he was recovering from the flu where he lost 17 lbs. http://www.southbendtribune.com/apps/pbcs....496/1001/Sports
  2. Jim Leonhard replacement maybe? Did we tender him or not? I don't remember, but he doesn't appear on the Bills depth chart. played FS at Boise State. His timed speed was pedestrian 4.62 in the 40, but that's not really what counts anymore since he has demonstrated his speed at the pro-level.
  3. interesting. looks like they don't want to have to rely on rookie depth at corner if they don't have to. Probably a good plan considering how young our secondary is. He's appeared in every game the last 3 years which is impressive and means he stays healthy. Last year he was most productive. Looks like a pure depth guy at this point though.
  4. I would guess he's talking about the Bills team he was actually on - 2003, 2004. Bledsoe at qb, McGahee/Henry, Moulds, Sam Adams, Nate Clements, Mike Williams. The height of the fraudulent Donahoe era.
  5. Buffalobills.com - Chris Brown's blog - definitely worth checking out often
  6. played 11 games as a freshman, and 13 games in both his sophmore and junior years - that's a lot of action to judge him on - and he was very productive - especially as a junior with 12 touchdowns.
  7. compare Kalimba Edwards comments with Will James. Of course a big difference is that we actually brought James in, Edwards we never showed any interest in. But somebody must give him some hints to measure fan expectations. James would be a good get March 13, 2008 Posted By: Chris Brown | Time: 12:48 PM ET | Link JAMES WOULD BE A GOOD GET: William James would be a good addition to Buffalo's cornerback contingent. He offers size (6'0") and can hang with some of the bigger receivers in the league. He's considered a good tackler and could compete with Jabari Greer for the starting RCB job in camp. His experience in the league is also a plus with 45 starts under his belt. It also appears that his back problems are b
  8. totally agree. his comments on Manningham told me that we're probably not interested. MANNINGHAM HELPED HIMSELF: Michigan WR Mario Manningham helped his stock at the Wolverines pro day over the weekend with a 4.44 and 4.38 pair of 40 times. It was significantly better than his 4.59 at the combine. He also improved his vertical by three inches from 32 at the combine to 35 inches. That being said I just don't care for him too much because he's got a slight build and doesn't work well against press coverage. He's not a physical receiver, which is what Buffalo needs for the red zone. So as far as the Bills are concerned I don't see him as a fit. --- though I kind of disagree with him about Manningham - the guy seemed to win every jump ball that came his way in college and played a lot bigger than his height and weight.
  9. I like getting those guys and I really like Jordy Nelson, but not sure he's a starting option next season. He's the kind of guy I'd like to have on the field a lot, but I'm not sure he's an every down #2 receiver out of the gate. Also Hubbard is a real question mark to me - the guy has all the athleticism in the world but has terrible hands and was fairly unproductive in college - he'd be a long term project and maybe a special teams guy for awhile. Personally I'd take Lavelle Hawkins there (who I think you have undervalued)- good all around receiver with great hands, speed, and college production - he would provide reliable quality depth at receiver.
  10. they can jump, but they can't jump on to other people (or really even land on other people).
  11. haha - i had no idea they were the same person until this post.
  12. I was totally with you on the pass rusher thing too until we didn't address the receiver issue in FA. Even if we had picked up Johnson, that would have given us at least some flexibility to maybe pick up a receiver in the 2nd or 3rd. But now that we need a guy to start from week 1, I think another pass rusher might be a luxury at 11. I really think though that the DT upgrades and Denney being healthy this year will really help the DE's. They were overexposed last year from a lack of depth and interior help.
  13. good move, imo. in season replacement that actually made some nice plays.
  14. Talented Mister Ripley was a great movie - though not at all pleasant to watch or really to think about - very discomforting but I thought it was a very well made movie. Guy was probably the best in the business at adapting novels to the screen in unflinching fashion.
  15. definitely worthy of consideration considering he also was productive in college and not just a workout freak.
  16. so how do you get good wide receivers that can step in and start? Old castoffs - like Peerless? or overpay ridiculously for a free agent? Doesn't add up.
  17. I like getting DRC, but if one of those receivers don't fall to us in the 2nd (which they don't in that mock), we are seriously screwed. We'd have to scramble for some old guy that gets released off another team and hope that a 3rd or 4th round wr will be good enough to start. I'd like another top notch corner on the team - but we have an empty spot at starting receiver - we have corners, we need more for competition to start and depth. We have no second receiver at all, and no size to back up anybody. Receiver at 11 is the safest route in next year's draft and we'll have the pick of the litter. Corner we can address in round 2.
  18. why should the opinion of other westerners affect your opinion on Tibet? Just cause you don't like hippies or whatever, doesn't mean that you should favor repressive dictatorships. Those excuses are all lame and are the type used by all tyranny to justify seizing land and imposing iron fisted rule on people that don't have the power to resist them. See Germany and the Czechoslovakia.
  19. I can't decide whether that's good news or bad news.
  20. Colston ran a 4.5. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=32697
  21. because he'll be offended that 1st rounders make too much money? That's just the way the league works. No matter who we draft at #11 they'll probably be making more than Lee - though I'm not sure that they will be since players final years of contracts are typically the biggest in terms of base salary. We need a number 2 receiver. period. If the Bills think they can still get one at 41, then fine. But if they have doubts, then our hand may be forced a bit. There will be good corners available in the 2nd btw.
  22. his comment isn't as crazy when you consider that he's only talking about our top 2 corners against 3 other sets of corners. Who is even playing corner for the Pats next year? The Jets drafted Revis, but he was picked on a lot last year - much more so then either McGee or Greer. Who are the corners for Phins? Will Allen? he's terrible. Greer and McGee weren't fantastic, but a lot of the problems didn't come from them blowing coverages, it came for our backup backup safeties - Wilson was the one repeatedly torched by the Pats - and our backup nickel backs. We'll see how Youboty does this year - this is his make or break season.
  23. Wide receiver is the only position where we have a desperate need. There are probably 5-7 starting caliber (for next year) receivers in this draft (Kelly, Sweed, Hardy, Jackson, Thomas, Manningham, and maybe Doucet) and there is a decent chance that all of them may be gone by the time we pick in the 2nd round. A lot of teams need receiving help and those guys at the end of the 1st and beginning of the 2nd are great values. That is a huge risk to take when you don't have a #2 receiver or even a backup that's really suited to the outside spot. As much as the value might not align at #11, we may have to bite the bullet and take the guy we like best or trade down if we can - but you can't rely on that.
  24. the 2 drops stat was said by his agent. dropped tons of balls all senior bowl week when the pressure was on. when I watch his highlights he doesn't look like a wide receiver to me. Still might be productive if used right, but there are a lot of these big tweener wr's that never make an impact in the NFL - see Teyo Johnson as exhibit 1.
  25. a few thoughts: Do teams actually draft them higher the following year, or do the "draft experts" just preach that these guys are going to go higher and then they end up going at about the same spot they would have regardless? Also could draft practices also just reflect a league that's always changing a little - certain types of players become more sought after because their specific skills fit a popular offensive or defensive scheme that has caught on? - like smaller, faster linebackers, or safeties that can really cover
