  1. I thought they came out and said he wouldn't be fined.
  2. lately I've been wondering if our offense is too young to expect them to be consistently good
  3. I think I have a draft magazine from a couple years back that had him as the top rated offensive lineman prospect. I no longer buy that magazine.
  4. one correction - Preston was a 4th rounder in 2005. Your point is still strong. Also we picked up two young 2nd round lineman in free agency before the '07 draft in Dockery and Walker. That kind of lifted our pressing need for everything but Center and depth in '07 and '08. To me what was inexcusable was the stretch from '03 to '06 where our line was incapable of pass blocking, yet we did nothing in the draft.
  5. I'm for sticking with him still. I think blowing everything up would be a mistake because we are such a young team, and changing coaches without blowing everything up is tough. Every 3 years you can't be starting over like we have been.
  6. Rey Maualuga is still available in the first. I'd take him over Cushing. Drawing a bright line between ILBs and OLBs coming out of college will probably cloud results since a lot of the top linebackers would be able to play inside or outside in the pros, depending on the system. Some guys are pure pluggers though and need to play in the middle - but those aren't usually top prospects.
  7. well if we do go TE or OC in the 1st round, which I doubt - there are really only 4 candidates at this point Jermaine Gresham - Oklahoma - TE - great receiver and good blocker - 6'6, 260 Brandon Pettigrew - Oklahoma State - TE - great blocker and very good receiver - 6'6, 260 Max Unger - Oregon - versatile, smar, can play all interior positions - 6'5, 300 Alex Mack - Cal - very smart with good size - 6'4, 315 but we've got to go pass rusher. one of these guys might still be there in the 2nd round. A potentially elite pass rusher won't be.
  8. Denver is a very weird team. They can score like crazy, but Cutler also throws a lot of stupid passes to the wrong team and their defense cannot stop anyone most of the time. I could see them stomping us, overwhelming us with points, but I could also see us handling them fairly easily. Mainly you just don't know what you're going to get out of either team.
  9. that is friggin awesome!! at least he'll be here one more year...
  10. because Washington returns punts and kickoffs. The probowl needs to fix the way it handles special teams.
  11. well we know he didn't get in based on the fan votes...
  12. I agree Charles is not dumb. Usually he's saying very astute things that few others dare say, but often he says them in a way that could make you think he's dumb. He's also indisputably the world's funniest golfer. The ISU article Lori posted above speaks volumes. Looks like Cizik knew he had to retreat back into the comfy southern life cause he was a disaster as a head coach when he didn't have the best players in the country.
  13. he's right, but the last quote he meant because the 2 minute warning would probably have hit even if there was an incompletion - meaning that it was the one time left in the game where it would make sense to consider passing from a clock management perspective
  14. only way he could have blocked him as you wish he had is if he had guessed that the safety was blitzing and jumped to the left on the snap. when you have an outside blitz or even a DE that's a speed rusher, you make them keep running upfield past the QB - that's what Peters did. JP though was way too far back and running even further back.
  15. it wasn't Peters fault. Watch the replay, the blitz was straight up field outside of the tackle. A tackle shepherds rushes like that further down the field to protect a pocket. JP though was already about 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage after the play action fake, and then made things much worse by neither stepping foward or rolling to the right but up the field, instead he ran further backwards while rolling right and completely out of the protection any pocket may have offered. By the time he was hit he was about 12 yards behind the line of scrimmage.
  16. watching it again - it's still JP's fault. What is Peters supposed to do when a safety runs straight up field wide and then across. The pocket was protected, but it was a rollout and JP first goes way backward because its a play action, and then goes even further back when going toward the opposite sideline. No tackle in the league is fast enough to contain a sprinting safety 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage without there being a defined pocket to protect.
  17. as much as i've soured on Jauron I still am hesitant blowing it all up. I do think though that with a head coach like Jauron you need powerful coordinators. Fewell is ok, but the defense is terrible at the start of games every week and is too conservative too often. I hope that with a few more pass rushers - and lbers capable of rushing the passer and cover - we'll take a more aggressive approach to bringing pressure. Turk, well its his first year, he's made major playcalling blunders but that have been compounded by player's blowing it - JP most recently, Lindell missing easy fieldgoals - right there is 3 more wins easy. Also our offense as a whole is extremely young - youth and inexperience will always make more mistakes. Just look at what a difference Josh Reed makes. He is our only real vet on offense - even guys we think of as vets are still young players - Dockery, Walker, and Evans are all young.
  18. he'd have a great opportunity to make a splash there. the Big 12 North is wide open these days.
  19. many of the draft "experts" don't even have Mack as the top Center. There will be a top Center in the 2nd round, possibly even Mack himself.
  20. at this point my interest is in either Aaron Curry, Rey Maualuga, or Brian Orakpo
  21. seriously even if Gill leaves UB, which seems like a near certainty, UB should continue to take advantage of the untapped talent of African American coaches that the good ole boy networks of college football still avoid like the plague. It is a rare opportunity for UB to actually have a competitive advantage.
  22. seriously, too much misplaced hate on the board. Plus, just cause he hasn't been a factor this year offseasons are very important for rookies to get bigger and stronger under a professional program. I'd hate to see a serious injury affect him into next season.
  23. even in the darkest of hours we should acknowledge those who played well. And a lot of players played well. here's my list: Marshawn Lynch - ran like a man possessed, couple of drops only blemish Langston Walker - was out in space making blocks, continued his solid play Spencer Johnson - had a huge stop that could have been the difference in the game Leodis McKelvin - might be the best kick returner in the league, and he's turning into a dependable corner Steve Johnson - first career touchdown Derek Fine - made the most out both his receptions - turned a 4 yard reception into a 12 yard gain through sheer will power honorable mention: Duke Preston - was much improved and did well against Jenkins. plus he pushed the ref on the ground. goats JP Losman - so so terrible Kawika Mitchell - continues his trend of being very good one weak and atrocious the next. looked very slow at times Donte Whitner - i think he's playing hurt and it shows. was picked on in the first half.
