  1. yeah, Schobel was playing at about 5 to 10 lbs more than that and says that he talked to Usi Umenyiora about it and Usi was playing at right around that weight as well. It seems that the difference between pass rushing DEs and LBs has more to do with skill sets and maybe a little bit of height rather than just how much an athlete weighs.
  2. I'm not sure he can beat a blitzing defense - I think he'll be in real trouble against the Eagles
  3. good news! one more pass rusher in the mix in the first round. I'm a little concerned about his size (236 lbs!), though I guess a lot of pass rushers play in the low 240s even if they're listed 10 or 20 lbs heavier (according to Schobel).
  4. that's the highest end of the wide range I've heard - I've heard "experts" say as late as a 5th rounder. Personally, I think someone will take a chance on him sometime before the end of the 3rd round.
  5. Bradford didn't look good against a serious defense that can create pressure. That spread doesn't work real well against high end defensive lineman and doesn't bode well for how he'd fare against NFL defenses in a pro style attack. He might not even be a first rounder.
  6. Tebow is interesting. Not sure he could be an everydown QB because I don't think he can make all the throws. Could really cause some troubles in an offense that actually embraces some serious creativity. I think it shouldn't be overlooked that he easily could have been the goat last night if Oklahoma had capitalized on his mistakes as a passer. I thought Harvin should have been the offensive MVP - without his big plays Florida probably loses.
  7. He sucks as a pass rusher not as a football player.
  8. he's a fine DE - he's just not a pass rusher.
  9. you lost me at Kitna. He is beyond terrible on the field and off.
  10. my opinion remains that we draft the top front 7 player - if that's Raji, I am fine with it - we definitely need another big DT in the mix - Stroud is our only one.
  11. totally agree. though in the tampa 2 it relies pretty much on just the front 4 for pressure - which I think makes it that much tougher to get to the qb in the modern NFL which favors offense so much.
  12. Kelly's arm and knees were pretty much done. You at the least need your arm to keep playing. His passes lost their zip in those last years and he was taking a beating.
  13. this is rated on the year they had, not their potential QB - B- RB - A- FB - C LT - Incomplete LG - C OC - D RG - B- RT - B WR1 - B- (Evans) WR2 - A- (Reed) TE - C DE - B- (Kelsay) - good against run, no pass rush DE - B- (Denney) - same DT - A- (Stroud) DT - B (Williams) MLB - C+ OLB - C+ OLB - C+ CB - B+ CB - B+ SS - B- FS - C
  14. i think a late round qb is almost always a good idea. you never know if you might strike gold.
  15. wow. 3 picks at home. He's throwing up bad passes like he did for the Jets last year. He's getting drilled too.
  16. i think the problem is some people like to make it seem like everybody we let go is lighting it up, and others react by basically saying that none of the players we let go are any good. The fact is that most are ok players - they're in the NFL for a reason, they're good athletes but there are lots of good athletes that you can replace them with that a coach might think fits their system better. And every team makes mistakes.
  17. well its pretty simple why we cut Wire - he had a serious neck injury that jeopardized his career and he was never very good otherwise. the simple reason we cut Milloy was that we were switching to a different defense that asks Safeties to do different things. I'm not sure why we didn't bother keeping Leonhard. They obviously liked him. At this point they clearly have little confidence in Ko. I think our pro-scouting people aren't very good - a lot of misses. But also those that clamor for a brand new coaching staff have to recognize that a lot of the talent that we've lost over the last decade has been because of a change in coaches and changes in scheme. Pat Williams is the most glaring example.
  18. they play him a lot near the line of scrimmage and blitz him a lot. I always liked him. It seemed like in our defense he was picked on though. I really don't like the Tampa 2. wow, Ed Reed!
  19. I think that is a good point. We often did seem to struggle getting plays in. The ear piece in the helmet shuts off automatically at 15 seconds, but it seems that often Trent is having to go near the sideline to get the play. Getting to the line late really limits what the QB can do as far as adjustments to formation or even audibling. That has to be on the offensive coaching staff - specifically Schonert and possibly Van Pelt.
  20. interception by Leonhard, though Pennington threw it right to him.
  21. it's doubtful that Mays makes it out of the top 5 if his supposed measurables are backed up in the combine. The dude is a freak of nature - bigger and faster than polamalu and also a playmaker.
  22. our safeties are good at tackling after they let the guy catch it, milloy isn't close to the receiver to do that
  23. he's not one of those safeties that actually covers people.
  24. 1. Pass Rush. This is primarily a personnel issue, but also some coaching. Pass rushers must be obtained in the draft - probably our 1st round pick - and Schobel needs to come back at 100%. It's unlikely there will be many decent pass rushers available in FA - teams don't let good ones hit the street. Fewell needs to be more willing to bring linebackers in on the rush. 2. Intelligence on Offense. Clearly the more complex issue. We started to see a better mix of playcalling as the season progressed. Unfortunately it was derailed by a rattled mid-season Edwards, an inept late season Losman, and blunders at key moments by a variety of individual players and playcalls. However the running game became established, we were calling things like draws and pitch-outs and running them with success. Our offense is one of the youngest in the league (if not the youngest) and some level of inconsistency should not be surprising. The necessity of Trent and the other young players' progression goes without saying. - Turk should really study what a team like Miami does on offense - they have a smart approach - they take full advantage of their personnel and are relentless in attacking the weakest part of the defense - see their unabashed use of trick plays to open up defenses a bit for their playmakers, and see their merciless attack of a injured McGee with Tedd Ginn - they never called off the dogs on that advantage. - We are hampered in our flexibility with an interior offensive line that is too big to get out on the edges. A new center that is a complete player (Fowler too weak, Preston too immobile) will seriously help us get the ball to the edges on screens, pitches, or even just rushing off the edge with pulling lineman. Dockery and Butler also need to be pushed and in general we need to get our line lighter and in better condition. Need to draft a center in the first 3 rounds and probably another guard within the first 5 rounds as well as bring in a FA - it's likely Fowler, Preston and Whittle will all be gone next year. Forcing defenses to be wary of the whole field is key to taking advantage of a defensive weakness. - Better veteran receivers and tight ends. Rob Royal is our most veteran player on offense and he stinks as a starter and makes the mistakes of a rookie. When Reed was lost we had no real veteran receivers that we could rely on and our passing game evaporated. Evans is taken away by the defense, Roscoe isn't a true receiver, and everyone else was a rookie. I really believe we need to bring in some smart veterans at these spots to provide valuable leadership and reliability to our youth while they grow as players. Obviously, this requires action in free agency.
