  1. there are few i'd take over him. And he could be a lot better just through more experience - learning the running lanes. He's a faster Marion Barber in terms of style at this point.
  2. that is the concern - work ethic. agreed - but there are a lot of workout freaks that stink in the NFL but wow at weigh ins - while guys like Bruce Smith are flabby and dominant coming out and become hall of famers once they dedicate themselves under a pro program. however it doesn't make much sense that Jerry could be simultaneously flabby, with a gut and love handles, while also being "maxed out."
  3. I heard those comments about Jerry - and then he promptly put on a dominating performance in the practices. Think about it this way - if a guy looks like he's in kind of crappy shape, but is ultra-productive in college, doesn't it follow that once he's in better shape he'll be even more dominant? Meanwhile prospects that are in ridiculous shape may not have that much more they can improve physically.
  4. it's funny how people automatically equate the idea of any signing as needing to be a silver bullet solution to all the team's problems - and because it wouldn't be, it's a dumb idea. The idea is to build a better team in ways you can. Furrey is a reliable veteran receiver - he's not a superstar or even a star - he's a decent player that can be productive for us in an offense that is currently extremely young and especially young at receiver.
  5. some blended scotch is better than some single malts (which can be crappy just like anything) - but they tend to be comparably priced. My favorite scotch is Laphroiag, but its pricey (50+). Famous Grouse or Black Label are both excellent blends for very reasonable prices (low to mid 20s).
  6. personally I think Reese is an idiot - but only from watching him on ESPN. I'm sure he'll do fine in NE for a few seasons seeing as he only needs to hang on to the talent they already have. He'll probably retire before NE has to worry about replacing Brady, Moss, Welker, Seymour, or Wilfork.
  7. can't forget the Lions. Barry Sanders is impossible to stop when you change their running plays.
  8. all but official now http://www.themorningsun.com/articles/2009...93873097698.txt Furrey out, Culpepper in for Lions Story Tools Mike Furrey (AP Photo/Paul Sancya, File) Thursday, January 29, 2009 6:29 AM EST By DAVID BIRKETT JRC News Service ALLEN PARK — Receiver Mike Furrey told reporters in Tampa Bay for Super Bowl XLIII that the Lions have informed him he will be released once the NFL calendar allows it next month. Speaking to the Detroit News and Free Press, Furrey said Lions general manager Martin Mayhew spent Tuesday “calling the guys they were releasing” and he was one of them.
  9. He didn't have many catches cause he wasn't on the field much over Johnson, Williams (while he was there), and McDonald. And their quarterbacking was in total disarray. I think the Bills don't need a spectacular veteran receiver, we just need a competent guy in the mix that knows what he's doing while the young guys learn the game.
  10. I coould have said - The Furrey Lion may get trimmed. Then I could be writing headlines in the paper.
  11. he would fill a major need for another veteran receiver that the offense can rely on. We saw what the offense was without Reed. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/01/28/...ding-to-furrey/ update - Furrey out, Culpepper in for Lions By DAVID BIRKETT JRC News Service ALLEN PARK — Receiver Mike Furrey told reporters in Tampa Bay for Super Bowl XLIII that the Lions have informed him he will be released once the NFL calendar allows it next month. 12. Brett Favre himself has said that an offense really only needs 6 plays run to perfection to be successful. That means plays that everyone on offense knows like the back of their hand. It seems like we often are relying on plays that we run a couple times during the week (according to press conferences after the fact). A lot of offenses seem needlessly complicated and tend to take what would be the common sense approach and invert it so as to be clever. Some of these offensive geniuses have 700 page playbooks - what the heck is the point?
  13. how did we ever let that gem get away? he wasn't too small for us, he just wasn't good.
  14. Tyson Jackson is 295 lbs and is a 3-4 DE. He is not a pass rushing DE. Most pass rushing DE's play between 240 and 265 lbs. Most pass rush DE's could also conceivably play rush linebacker in a 3-4, but they could not play outside linebacker in a 4-3 scheme. All of those listed are defensive ends and would fit our system (with the ironic exception of Tyson Jackson).
  15. it's pretty amazing how different observers to these things draw totally different conclusions about what they are seeing.
  16. i like it in theory - it really depends on who else is still on the board. Pettigrew is destroying linebackers at the Senior bowl according to multiple reports.
  17. I think he's great when he has a specific task to do because he can recognize what's coming. But having him float out there deep and make plays isn't his game at all.
  18. the reports I read on nfldraftcountdown said that Mack struggled with Raaji, but that wasn't anything to be ashamed of necessarily and they still rate him the top center. Also they said Max Unger was the only center to shut Raaji down, even pancaking him during one drill. The dude, Unger, must be an absolute technician cause watching him play he doesn't look like that special of an athlete - but he does it all successfully.
  19. not as long as we run the defense we currently run (I'm open to a change). Our system makes safeties cover too much ground for a guy like Leonard.
  20. if we did take Raaji it would signal a big (and welcomed) shift in our defensive approach. We NEED to get a pass rusher though, one way or the other or any new approach isn't going to matter much.
  21. didn't the Colts draft 3 centers in the draft last year?
  22. i'd keep him until we had someone better. McCargo sure doesn't seem like he'll be back. We have enough holes to fill, imo, to keep making more.
  23. Langston Walker is the least of this team's problems.
