alright, I just said this in the "shout box" but here's some info
http://ramblinwreck.cstv.com/sports/m-foot...ith_giff00.html
he was D-line coach at GT from 2004 - 2008. if he's coaching outside linebackers here, I wonder if this means we're going to the 3-4 since outside backers are a lot more like D-linemen.
-
I'd be ok with drafting Bulaga and LeFevour. Not sure when LeFevour goes in the draft. He might be there in round 3.
-
What have any of these guys ever shown you to believe that they'd be any better than Trent Edwards? What have any of these guys ever shown you to believe they'd be better than Billy Joe Hobert?
Travaris Jackson and Troy Smith have shown some flashes. Jackson improved a lot but then was undercut by Favre. Troy Smith was going to be the starter last year until he got appendicitis (or something). Clemons has shown nothing at all other than pure suckitude.
-
Campbell and Troy Smith are both RFA's. would probably need to trade for them.
-
there won't be a stud LT at 41 but there will probably be some capable talent there. Selvish Capers, Bruce Campbell, Vladimir Duccasse may still be on the board. The stud LTs - Okung, Bulaga and Anthony Davis - will be gone.
IMO if we have a good sense that we will be taking a QB at 9 and that one will be there, we should open the piggy bank for a LT in free agency. Then in the 2nd we can go Cody or other Defensive front 7.
-
I'm not a defender of overweight people because I do think the majority of people like that are jsut lazy. However, some people really can't control it at a certain point. Cody is a freak athlete at his size. How much was Te Washington at the end of his career? How much would Cody have to move? Honestly if Cody is 500 lbs and there in the 2nd, I'd still take him. He is an absolute load and makes LBs better.
I agree. It would very tough to pass on him in the 2nd. He apparently came into Alabama at over 400 and had to lose weight. He's clearly got a weight problem, but he's not a bum by just about any account other than a picture of him with his shirt off.
-
firing him was a foolish decision based on emotion. it took years for our ST's to be respectable again. I'd take him back without hesitation.
-
i find it amusing how suddenly everybody in the world is shocked when Favre throws a stupid interception. Talk about national amnesia. He's been throwing those picks for 19 years.
-
it shows the guy is a lazy fat ass. If you gain 15 pounds in 20 days before the Sr. Bowl what makes you think he will keep his weight in check before the sart of the year? If he doesn't get back to 350s before the combine it is going to kill his stock, at 350 his stamina was low at 370 it is going to flat out suck.
you are making the mistake of assuming that his listed weight was his actual weight

Plank was supposedly considered for the Bears D.C. but he said that he likes were he is at. I would think that if he wanted to move up he would have jumped at the chance in Chicago.
not necessarily. the Lovie Smith boat is sinking fast and chances are next year will be his last in Chicago and the assistant will most likely be unemployed this time next year. They're having a lot of trouble filling assistant vacancies - 5 OC candidates have turned them down and counting.
-
he'll be there in the 2nd if we want him.
-
I would want him on our team. next year we're going to be probably be mixing it up between 3 and 4 down lineman regardless. Denney will be gone. Ellis never plays, Maybin is a total question mark. Schobel may retire. Yeah, I'd say we need the help.
also lets get that Johnny Jolly too.

i thought the Hargrove penalty was chicken****. then the next play some guy dove at Favre's knees and no call.
It seems like the refs don't know what a penalty is any more.
I thought the vast majority of the hits were totally legit. the time he got on the run play he was hit because he was trying to block.
-
interesting fact about Favre - this game will be his 13th this year played inside a dome. That's had to have helped with the old man's joints down the stretch.

Marv is right and wrong. Jauron was great at most of the stuff required of a head coach - the team played hard for him, we were almost always competitive, there was very little dissension in the ranks. Those are pretty big deals.
Unfoturnately Jauron was totally clueless on offense and assembling an offensive staff. His teams weren't physically or mentally tough enough. In personnel he seemed to always prefer the sleaker player rather than the more rugged one when presented a choice. He was also bad with the media, which is huge. In short, it was time for a change.
I think Marv is just being loyal to a guy that he likes personally and who he hired.
-
this is basically an irrelevant hiring. people that get upset about it are just looking for something to get upset about.
the more important coaching job will be QB coach
-
yeah, got to go with Tim Anderson. useless player
-
its a realistic trade down - which is rare on this board. Unfortunately I think we might be wishing we had been the 49ers on draft day in this scenario.
-
Round 1 - Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
Round 2 - Dan Williams, NT, Tenessee
would love getting Williams in the 2nd. I doubt he'll last that long though.
-
Round 1 - Bradford or Claussen if there, if not - OT or McClain
Round 2 - best defensive front 7 guy available - hopefully Mount Cody, if you took McClain then the best D-lineman
-
there have just been way too many misses in pro scouting with Guy. This firing was a long time coming.
-
Detroit, St. Louis, KC ?
Jacksonville? they win a little more but they're not going anywhere other than LA anytime soon
this strikes me as some weak media narrative to fill copy
-
In Miami, his "star" was "I don't want to play football, I want to smoke pot" Ricky Williams. That team was certainly led by their defense (it seems in this day and age every team has one side that is superior to the other. Well, except the BILLS who are mediocre on both sides of the ball). That doesn't change anything, really.
actually I don't think he even got the benefit of Ricky Williams. His offensive star was Lamar Smith. Williams arrived the season Gailey left for Georgia Tech.

i think the main focus needs to be getting a monster DT in the mix and some better DE's than Kelsay and Denney
realistically I think a hybrid is what we'll see next year.

are we really going to get upset about what some random mock draft has us taking?
