  1. Game not as close as lopsided score already indicated. Dolphins were really shut out, touchdown coming in garbage time. For the Dolphins - - Pennington didn't look good. - Wildcat was ineffective. - Jake Long repeatedly got beat by John Abraham. Including one vicious pancake leading to a sack. - Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams both look slow and not very elusive. - Pat White almost had a big play but overthrew Ted Ginn by 15 yards. - Phillip Merling is quickly becoming a great player. - Anthony Fasano has a fumbling problem, 2 fumbles lost yesterday. - Did a good job shutting down the running game, not so much the passing game - were lucky they didn't get burnt more. - Davone Bess is a good wide receiver. - Didn't see Jason Taylor or Joey Porter make very many plays. For the Falcons - - Jason Elam looked like he was on the verge of getting cut after the game until he hit a late 50 yarder (he missed 2 fieldgoals and an extra point in the game) - Matt Ryan's inaccuracy down the field probably cost the Falcons 14 points, 2 overthrown deep passes with men wide open - Mike Peterson had a FF and a pick. - Gonzalez is still really good.
  2. Yeah I thought they all were more or less sold out already. I didn't think Detroit had trouble selling out their games either.
  3. there is a plain double standard and its written into the law by state legislatures.
  4. bizarre post. you don't even mention who you're talking about. Nor do you really explain how this offensive line stud didn't even make one of the worst team's in the league's roster with one of the best personnel men in the league running the show. your solution seems to be to sign this guy off a practice squad to start immediately at LG, bench Hangartner, reshuffle the entire interior O-line which would then be comprised of 3 rookies. More, you seem to think that this is an obvious, no-brainer, move...
  5. I don't think they even really pressured him when they only brought 3 or 4 men. Last year they got pressure up the gut from Haynesworth on 4 man rushes. Last night they only sacked or pressured him on blitzes and dogs. The Titans lost because they stopped bringing extra men. Ben had all day to pass in the 4th quarter and overtime.
  6. I'm struggling to see how you came away with that first impression. The only time Ben wasn't being pressured was when the Titans were only rushing 4 and the Steelers offensive line only ran the ball for 36 yards on 23 running plays. I'd call their performance more worrying than awesome (if I was a Steelers fan) I agree wholeheartedly about Roethlisberger though.
  7. crazed overreaction by Harrison to some joking around by TO. So thin skinned, I guess the years of roids get to you. Probably the guy should be in therapy.
  8. when did Willy Parker stop being fast? He looked no better than Mewelde Moore last night. And Mendenhall looks like a bust. I know Tennessee's defense is good, but you can still look impressive when the ball is in your hands even if you're not making much yardage. also the Titans passing down defense looked like the Bills'. Without Haynesworth, the 4 man rush just doesn't get it done.
  9. he has looked better than either of the guys we had last year
  10. oh man, the end of that wildcard game was nuts. The botched field goal leading to miracle heave and blown call by the officials. I think our line is just a giant question mark. It's been shown though, as you point out, that young offensive lines CAN be good enough to get you into the playoffs. Another example that comes to mind is the Ravens just last season.
  11. I guess he'd replace Jonathan Scott on the roster? The backup that can only play RT. That's clearly an upgrade if Runyan can actually play anymore. I didn't find Butler very impressive in the preseason but I'd rather he find the bench than shuffle the whole line unless its absolutely necessary (if Runyan is starting, a big if). Then I guess you have a backup that can play guard or RT in Butler.
  12. Denver's defense is not good. That said I always liked Haggan as a tough, strong linebacker and great special teamer - but he was terrible in coverage and in our defense, linebackers have to cover.
  13. I would disagree in a few respects, that 2005 team was laden with old players and lack of young talent to pick up the reigns on defense or the offensive line. In many ways today's Bills are a product of that 2005 team. Currently too young at linebacker and the secondary, too young on the offensive line since the initial attempted overhaul looked good for only one year (pro scouting hasn't been good with too few exceptions) so we've finally tried to address it in the draft. The records could end up being similar but at the end of the year we're in very different places for the long-term.
  14. you know I thought the same thing when I heard he'd been cut by the Bears. I figured he'd be good practice squad material at the least. But, I then looked up some of the Chicago papers' reaction to him and changed my mind. He wasn't getting to the ball on defense and wasn't aggressive enough for special teams.
  15. I would say firing him seems better than keeping him on. No doubt that hiring him in the first place was a mistake, but we did and its better to correct a mistake late than not at all.
  16. not only that but if we don't we'll probably be calling another cornerback's name on the first day of the draft next April. I know we'd all love that.
  17. from WGR's Nick Mendola: http://www.wgr550.com/See-ya-later/5168517 "While 2008 in Buffalo was his only year as an offensive coordinator, Schonert has been the quarterbacks coach for 13 seasons with five clubs. In 1992, Schonert headed to Tampa Bay where he "guided" Vinny Testaverde to 14 touchdowns and 16 interceptions and a ticket out of Tampa. The Bucs were 5-11, but Turk stayed, with a young quarterback under his tutelage. Miami's Craig Erickson skippered Tampa to a 11-18 record over two years, but did show improvement before being booted in favor of Trent Dilfer. Dilfer tossed four touchdowns to go with 18 interceptions under Schonert, who was removed from his post and headed North. Schonert's greatest success came in Buffalo from 1998-2000, where he couldn't choose between two quarterbacks with successful numbers. The Bills were 29-19 during that time, with Doug Flutie (47 TD, 30 INT) and Rob Johnson (22 TD, 10 INT) co-existing peacefully. He left after an 8-8 campaign in Orchard Park. Schonert had another inexperienced starter in Carolina in 2001. Chris Weinke went 1-14 as a starter, with 11 TD and 19 INT. Turk's tenure in Carolina ended there. He took a year off in 2002 before returning to the league in 2003 with the Giants, where he coached Kerry Collins to one of his worst years as a professional. Collins and Schonert were out of jobs. After another year off, Schonert spent a season with the Saints, ensuring the end of Aaron Brooks' time in New Orleans. Three wins and 13 losses tend to correspond with 13 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Schonert, Brooks, gone. Sensing a pattern here? Schonert has failed with rookies, veterans, Pro Bowlers and Super Bowlers."
  18. Chris Brown inferred that they cut Chambers to keep Walker under contract for a few more days to try and trade him. I don't know if that's true or not. My suspicion (pure speculation) is that AVP didn't feel like he could make that call only being on the job for a few hours and never even running the offensive practice with Walker at LT. as for the trade, it seems that there isn't really much demand for right tackles out there.
  19. surprising move because of its timing, but a little less so since we just switched coordinators. Walker did not look like a good left tackle but he was still our best right tackle, just not 5 mill a year good and not clear enough of an upgrade reshuffle the line. I wonder if Langston really had the legs to run all the plays we want to be able to run. we'll see how it plays out, but it wasn't looking like Langston was going to last regardless. Hope Bell's a quick study and we give him a lot of help the first few weeks.
  20. maybe once Scott gets repeatedly burned by tight ends they'll try Byrd. Probably the only reason Byrd isn't starting is because of his injury in training camp. I don't think it'll be long before he's in there. A safety that may actually intercept a pass would be a welcome addition. I don't think Maybin was ever going to be the "starter", but since rotate d-linemen, he'll be on the field a lot.
  21. it seems that "Moon" used the N word and said something about Blount's recently deceased aunt. If that's the case he got less than he deserved.
  22. do people actually think we'd cut whitner? and what, go with Ko Simpson, Bryan Scott, a rookie, and some special teams gunners? you'd have to be nuts. He's our only safety that can reliably cover people. A 4-3 with safeties that can't cover is a huge liability. Ask New Orleans.
