  1. shocked that NE got called with holding on a critical drive. I'm not sure that's happened in 8 years.
  2. I like Ryan's approach too, however I have to point out that the bottom line in this game and our game last week are pretty much comparable so far. 9 points to 13.
  3. without Welker the Pats sure do run the ball a lot more. Jets look a bit soft on D in the running game. at least on this last drive.
  4. even though it makes maybe a little more sense to root for Pats for standings purposes, I just can't root for them.
  5. interesting. It seems possible that we'd elevate Bowen and replace him with Freeman on the practice squad.
  6. Ok, so reading the box score of the Tampa/Dallas game and watching our very solid performance I sort of assumed that Tampa would be an easy game. I watched the Tampa/Dallas game on the NFL game rewind (totally worth the $40 btw) and my impression is now more cautiously optimistic. Strengths: Tampa is FAST and aggressive on defense. They swarm like crazy. They bring corner blitzes which Trent has struggled with in the past. And they stop the run. They are aggressive and they hit hard. They are a young team though, and they were playing at home. The young defense could look a lot different on the road. Offensive Line - Tampa can run the ball. Their offensive line is actually a lot like ours is right now. Undrafted athlete at LT, high draft picks at both guards, and the RT is kind of like Butler. They lost their starting center which could be a big blow. They're also mobile and have a few very good backs to block for. Running Back - they have 2 or 3 dynamic backs. All of which are arguably more dangerous than anything New England had to offer. Weaknesses: Big Plays - What killed Tampa was a few big plays. Shots down the field or medium-deep that went all the way because of a missed tackle or a bad angle by a safety. Pressure - They don't generate pressure on defense without bringing extra people. They don't have any dangerous pass rushers. Key will be recognizing the blitz. Byron Leftwich - The offense isn't dynamic enough to generate that many points. Leftwich is the reason. He misses a lot of positive plays with his inaccuracy and also with his slow decision making. Makes a lot of bad passes. He costs his team a lot of points. Conclusion The Bills aren't going to be able to rely on the same approach as last week on offense. Tampa's defense is much more swarming than New England's and will be better against screen plays and outside runs. Trent is going to have to be able to read when the safety's aren't hanging back and take the shots 15-25 yards down field. Deep slants and pump fakes could lead to a bunch of big plays against the TB safeties. Grinding out long drives may be tougher as opposed to hitting a few big plays. Also identifying and taking advantage of blitzing corners and linebackers will be key for Trent and his blockers. On defense, bend but don't break will be fine against a mistake prone QB like Leftwich so long as we can perform as well against the run as we did on Monday Night. With the new center, and Leftwich's poor mobility, slow delivery, and mediocre decision making, a focus on bringing extra pressure right up the gut should cause some turnovers. In all, the Bills could win handily if Trent recognizes the deep coverages and successfully takes the shots. If he doesn't, it could be a very close game decided by a turnover or big play on special teams.
  7. to me it was less of a catch than the one overruled in Oakland. However, I actually think both were catches. so this year the officials are so inconsistent we can't be sure either what touchdown or a personal foul is. yikes.
  8. if you focus on taking away the little stuff they'll beat you deep and ring up 50 points on you.
  9. physically he does. He's really thick for only being 225 lbs. I sure hope he'll remind me of him with his play on the field.
  10. and out of a spread offense. And I'd say more like 5-10. Just cause the Pats were dinking and dunking to receivers doesn't mean they weren't dinking and dunking. We moved the ball pretty much at will, only held back by self inflicted mistakes (penalties and drops). If we had failed to score/move teh ball then I'd be concerned.
  11. from the sound of it in Jauron's press conference today Buggs is getting the nod for now. Then Chris Brown also said the back up plan would be Ellison in the middle with Nic Harris then coming in at OLB.
  12. on the first one Spencer Johnson made a terrific play with Ellison following it up. Just want to see that they gets some props.
  13. glad someone mentioned this. Re-watched most of the game today and Kelsay played very very well.
  14. i guess he reads Deadspin. http://deadspin.com/5360027/is-dick-jauron-dying
  15. what's interesting is that the rationale for being 21 in the first place had to do with questions about the offense: brand new O-coordinator, 3 first time starters on the O-line. Yet we moved the ball with relative ease against a defensive genius coach, on the road, in prime-time. real reason though? ESPN spent the last week trash talking about how bad the Bills are and how awful a person TO is. The Bills' performance goes against their narrative and makes them look dumb. It just shows that people will not change their opinions even when confronted with contradictory evidence. of course its all meaningless really, it only shows what kind of organization ESPN is. If the Bills want good coverage they'll have to win a lot of games. I don't care about good coverage, I just want to win a lot of games.
  16. Fine must be healthy. Chris Brown said this was what they were going to do a couple days ago, so no big surprise.
  17. I was thinking this same thing last night.
  18. PFT says he doesn't appear to be part of the Chiefs longterm plans now that they're running the 3-4. Just demoted to second string. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/...uietly-demoted/ We certainly have a need. Any thoughts about him?
  19. I don't know what game you were watching. They had 13 points with 5 minutes to play.
  20. good post and agree on a lot of it. McKelvin's play wasn't all bad. the Pats D was all underneath for a reason. He missed some tackles badly, but he also made some important ones. He saved a touchdown on a goalline run forcing a field goal. Obviously though he is rightfully the goat of the game. as far as "moral victories" - I don't really know what that means any ways. The game is a loss and it hurts bad, but it is a loss that should give this young team a lot of confidence going forward. I expect us to CRUSH Tampa this week. Wouldn't have thought I'd be feeling that way 24 hours ago.
