  1. The NFL scrap heap is littered with "can't miss" QB high draft picks. Ryan Leaf will always be the poster boy for this phenomenon, but all you have to do is go through the 1st round QB picks over the last 15 years and it's like a who's who of "can't miss" busts. For every 1st round success like Kelly, Elway, Marino, etc., there are 5 1st round busts who never lived up their exhalted status.

There's no guarantee for other positions (can you say Mike Williams?), but the glamour of the QB position too often puts stars in the eyes of the fans who've seen them tear up some Div I stiffs. I could be wrong, or course, but I don't see Colt McCoy as ever being a force in the NFL.

Here's a list of some of the "can't miss" first round busts: David Carr, Akili Smith, Rick Mirer, Heath Shuler, Andre Ware, Joey Harrington, Byron Leftwich, Alex Smith, Matt Leinart. Some of these were "ok" QBs. but none warranted their lofty draft position or the paycheck that accompanied it.

Some that weren't necessarily "can't miss" players, but still 1st round busts include: Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman and our very own J.P Losman.

Oh yeah.....the Bills need to continue building from the inside and bolster their O and D lines. The skill positions will function at an amazingly high level if given the support from the beef ont he trenches. That's how superbowl teams are built.

there are no can't miss prospects, including at tackle or along the lines. The league is now designed to the advantage of teams with great quarterbacks and they're basically only available through the draft.

eventually we have to try and get one and you're only in position to take one every so often. Chances are we won't be anyway and can take a tackle.

  2. if one of the top QBs is there you take him and figure out LT the rest of the draft and/or in FA. There is simply no other opportunity to get potentially elite quarterbacks. Next year there may not be a guy worth drafting in our slot and you just kick the ball down the road forever. There are many more ways to get capable left tackles.

also we need a FA QB capable of starting regardless of whether we draft a QB or not.

  3. I thought I clarified that in the first sentence, but to be clear: I was referring to blowing up the FO.

I agree that there's no point in blowing up the roster, when (as my signature implies) the problems reside almost exclusively on one side of the ball. To make holes for hole's sake is retarded.

Sorry, I understood what you meant, I was talking about how many others use the term.

  4. what do people even mean by "blowing it up"? Some people seem to think that means getting rid of everyone on the roster, which is just stupid since our team is young. I mean clearly we're going to have a new head man, and then he can pick who he wants running his scouting departments. That could include some holdovers.

as for draft prep, I think they don't do that much during the season other than send some scouts to games. Everything's on film these days anyway.

  5. also it doesn't have to be a "conspiracy" that requires any kind of a shadowy plot. It's just that the refs, as league employees, know what's the better outcome for the league. It doesn't mean they can choose a winner, but they sure can guide a game in a certain direction.

its just gotten to the point where, against the Pats, any big play made by the opposition (and especially smaller market teams) I'm actually surprised if there isn't a flag that wipes out the play - it's just happened so often over the past decade

  6. No one has mentioned it, but on the onside kick (Maybin genius move)... there's an official near the sideline who didn't have the best angle to determine who had the ball and that f***** pointed in the direction that the Pats had the ball. Anyone else see this? They'll never admit it but it's all crooked, the gambling... Dierdorf on his knees fellating Bob Kraft in the press box. If I were to ever go to another game, I only go if he's announcing and I go up to the press box and I show Dierdork the Bud Adams special... Kick me out of the game, I don't care, doing that is worth the price of admission. Dierdork is a rubber faced fata$$ed shill... that isn't the first time I've seen him as a blatant cheerleader of the opposition... I'd say worse but I'll stop.

I saw it. I had pretty much the same angle as the ref and the only thing it looked like was that the Bills had the ball.

that Welker interference was so outrageous. there was a ref 3 yards away that didn't call anything and the ref 15 yards away and behind the play throws the flag.

big market teams with marketable stars will get all the breaks. Also once the game was more or less over the refs finally started calling holding on the Pats - makes it look a little more balanced on the stat sheet I guess

regardless until we have a QB and a left tackle it's gonna be pretty tough to beat a team with a HOF QB who gets the calls - even if the rest of that team stinks.
