How is Trent Edwards doing in OTA's?
keepthefaith replied to djh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was Jauron's idea for him to wear the gloves. They didn't work that well, so Dick will recommend a full body condom this year. You can't be too careful in this league. -
How is Trent Edwards doing in OTA's?
keepthefaith replied to djh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is a simple answer to all of this. Trent needs to line up and show he's the better QB and deserves to be the starter. He's yet to do that but it looks like he'll have that opportunity come September. Until then, there is no sense debating this. -
So even Jauron has a shot as a DC in '09 or '10 somewhere.
-
Are you stating this from experience?
-
It was apparently the head coach's decision to hire a "rookie" OC rather than bring in someone with a better resume. His decision also (so he says) to put in a rookie QB. He must feel that both of these are upgrades over what was in place, so no, they don't get a pass. I've never heard Jauron say that we as fans should expect the quarterbacking and offensive scheme to take a step back while they build for the future so I expect immediate and improved results. We should have plenty of confidence that Jauron (who has been around the league a while) knows exactly what he is doing and wouldn't put the teams performance at risk with personnel changes. We have every reason to believe that the Bills will be much improved offensively this year with these two changes.

A. You don't know this for sure. B. The design and philosophy of the offense is approved by the HC, otherwise he'd change it, right? C. How'd the Bills do on 4th down last year and in goal-line situations? Pretty crappy. D. Jauron had a chance to hire a new OC this year. Go out and get the best guy he could get. He chose Turk without interviewing any other outside candidate. E. Marv delegated to a guy named Marchibroda who had a different resume than Fairchild and Turk. F. Jauron has a history of coaching teams with offenses that are in the bottom half of the league. G. I could probably go all the way to "Z" on this topic. -
we all want trent to be good, but....

You're damn right they do. Talent is better, now go score some points and put some teams away early in games. -

They'll be dealing with Jauron's decision making until he's fired. -

I'm very worried about the offense, but I can't put all of the worry on Edwards. It the offensive decision making by the head coach that frightens me. -

"F" the players IMO. If I were the owners I'd play hardball. Even at the risk of losing part of a season. -
Amount of top notch QBs shrinking?

That and playing QB in the NFL is extremely difficult. -
The team's success will depend on two people:

You're right. In the absence of any indication that Jauron can lead into the playoffs and win, there is always hope. -

Actually Jauron got a contract extension and big raise from Jerry Angelo following the 13-3 season. Regardless of which side of the debate we're on, this is a "SHOW ME" year for the Bills and Jauron. If he's any kind of coach along with some better talent, the Bills have to start beating other teams with winning records. Been a long time since that happened on a consistent basis. I haved no faith in this staff of coaches from an offensive standpoint and only hope that they don't ruin Trent in the next year or two. -

Living in Chicago during the Jauron era and following the Bears then would give you a different perspective on Jauron and the magical 13-3 season. They were a very lucky team that year pulling out last minute victories several times on big defensive plays and special teams plays. Jauron has never been able to back up that performance with anything close from his teams or coaches. If you throw out his best and worst years, you see a dismal coaching record otherwise. Unless he makes some changes in his approach to the game, expect him to become the bottleneck for this team as the talent now and in the near future might exceed his ability to coach it. I look at one recent decision that he made which tells me a lot. Hiring Turk as the OC. To me, that was an opportunity to improve the club. Did he do it? We don't know. What we do know is that he did not make an exhaustive search or interview a number of outside candidates. He chose to take the path of least resistence and hire the guy in the office down the hall. He took the typical Dick Jauron "safe" approach. Maybe Turk proves to be a wonderful coordinator, time will tell. What really bothers me is the manner in which Jauron chose him without bringing in several qualified candidates for interviews. Jauron is all about the comfort zone and playing it safe. That might work as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, but in football, I prefer a more aggressive approach. One that puts pressure on the opponent to win. I don't see that from this coach. 13-3 then means nothing now. -
Do we still want to add...

Absolutely we should sign him. "You can't be too careful in this league" Dick Jauron -
Very nice video on Trent!

If he's grown a set of ball too, the Bills might have something. -
Falcons sign #3 pick for more than #1

That and what's not reported is that Mike Vick agreed to write a check back to the Falcons and pay half of the new guy's salary. -
Evans offer close to $10 million a year?
keepthefaith replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Forget what he says. The Bills front office and coaching staff is under enormous pressure here. They've made moves to re-tool the team through the draft and free agency over the past 2 off-seasons. Nobody has a shed many tears over the guys that haven't been re-signed. However, Lee is a different animal. He's arguably the team's best player and is popular with the fans. The Bills are damned if they do, damned if they don't. If they don't sign him and he leaves, the fans will rebel. If they do sign him for money anywhere near that of Fitzgerald, the pressure is squarely on Jauron and the offensive coaches along with our boy Trent to make Lee a highly productive player. I don't think DJ and the rest of this crew can get it done on the field, but Brandon has to realize that this is a key player at a critical time for him and the organization. There is always the Franchise tag next year. -
I don't think he's gay. Looks like those photos may have been taken at a dog fight.

You are right. The greatest QB of all time label is being saved for Trent Edwards. -
If the Bills miss the playoffs
keepthefaith replied to ieatcrayonz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I went with other along these lines. DJ will soon become the bottleneck for this team as his overly cautious approach to the game is too conservstive to beat teams of equal or better talent that play a more agressive style.
