Message for Former Buffalonians
keepthefaith replied to EndZoneCrew's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Left the WNY area 14 years ago. Still have family and several friends there. Get back to Buffalo a couple times a year and always enjoy it. Would like to spend more time there. Even my kids who have been raised in suburban Chicqago love making those trips. Took a Chicago friend to a Bills game at the Ralph a few years ago. Drove 9 hours from here on a Friday night, had a fun Saturday in Buffalo, went to the game Sunday and drove 9 hours home. Everyone I know here knows I'm a die hard Bills fan and I often receive Bills stuff as gifts from friends and co-workers. 10 years ago I took a chartered bus to Indy filled with local Bills fans to see them play the Colts. Buffalo is a great place to raise a family and I'm fortunate to have been raised there. -
Wilson, Brandon and three players being supoenaed

I'd suggest that the DA is not wanting to be humiliated publically and will go to whatever lengths are necessary to prevail in this competition with Lynch and his fine attorney. Lynch has chosen to play harball which is causing the DA to do the same. My money's on the DA at this point. Too bad Marshawn made this a competition. Bad move. -

Lynch (or the driver) faced two forks in the road and made the wrong turn both times. First leaving the scene and second, lawyering up before he had to. He's turned an accident into a difficult situation by not letting the insurance companies handle the injury claim and dealing with the misdemeanor head on. First time offenders don't go to jail on misdemeanors. Now he's simply motivating the victim and the DA to take him to the cleaners while he ruins his own public perception. As the saying goes, "know when to hold them and know when to fold them". Marshawn (and/or the driver) keeps throwing more chips into the pot holding a very weak hand. -
Marshawn made his own bed here. He's antagonized the victim (and the police for that matter) by handling this in an adversary fashion. Had he treated this as an accident (even a day or two after the incident) it might be resolved sooner and simpler. There is insurance on the vehicle which covers liability for property damage and personal injury. If he and his agent were smart, he would likely carry an umbrella policy for additional liability above and beyond the vehicle insurance (as does the dealership that owns the car I am sure). He could have filled out reports, apologized privately and publically, dealt with the misdemeanor charge for leaving the scene and let the process take care of itself. The injuries to the victim don't add up to a huge settlement, not one that would reach 7 figures, so the insurance would likely resolve this. He'd pay a fine for the misdemeanor and the harshest penalty would probably come from the league, likely a short suspension. If He had done this, then he's not the villian he is now becoming. If someone else was driving, then he and that person should have come forward in the same fashion. Instead, he's turning this into a very expensive circus. He's motivated the victim to "take him to the cleaners" along with the DA and the commissioner, and his public perception once very good, will take a severe blow here. His lawyer, knowing that the police knew who's vehicle was involved, should have looked at this whole thing and advised his client to let the insurance companies resolve the accident. The path he is now on was easily predicted and the cost IMO will be higher doing it "his way". Sure, handling this openly and honestly may not have kept the victim from suing - but every other party that will judge him and punish him (and/or the driver of the car) for this incident (the public, the NFL, the Bills and the courts) would be doing so under much better circumstances.

Would love to see Shockey as a Bill. The Bills could use some "attitude" on the field, although I don't think Shocket is a Dick Jauron-type player. I think Dick prefers the good soldier-type that fall in line and don't challenge their superiors.

Simple, If I were Marshawn, I wouldn't hide behind the law. You'd have to be a fool to think that the police won't eventually get to the bottom of this. He (and any other's involved) are turning an accident into a crime. His greatest risk in this is how the NFL may punish him, and he's only motivating the victim, the court system and the NFL to treat him as an adversary. Loose the lawyer and try some common sense and honesty. -

I think a competiton would be very rational. -
Pointing out when young African American men act in ways that are common for young African American men does not make one a racist. It means you are aware.

From what I've seen so far, I wouldn't give you $1 for that attorney given how he has steered this. There are plenty of bad attorneys out there and Lynch might be represented by one of them. Lynch is making a huge mistake here. Not the way you handle an accident. Goodell will have a shyt fit over this as it brings more negative attention to the league. The cost of staying quiet goes up every day. Lynch and his friends are embarrassing themselves, the Bills and the league. Great move Marshawn! -

I would say it's a fair response given Lynch's refusal to talk. How smart does Lynch and his attorney look now? It's a felony to lie to a grand jury, so if Brandon met with Lynch about the incident and Lynch told him who was invlolved, Russ gets to be the whistle blower if he is asked to testify first. .....And if Russ told Ralph what happened, then Ralph might have the same opportunity. Great move by the DA. I would imagine that the Bills will suggest to Marshawn that he go talk to the police very soon. Sorry, but Lynch has acted in a stupid fashion throughout this. This was an accident and he (and/or the driver if not him) is turning it into a crime. Character? He's lacking a bunch. He does further damage to himself and the team for each day that goes by without resolving this. Stupid. -
Given that the police have a victim and the car, how can Marshawn or his attorney think that by saying nothing, this will just go way? That's laughable. The police will solve this. If someone else was driving, then the same goes for them. Marshawn may be risking more by not fessing up. He's only aggravating the police, the victim and the commissioner.

I'd rather have him as a next door neighbor than the Bill's head coach.

Sounds like the DA has nothing on Lynch

Here's one poster that thinks that strategy will backfire. If you rob a bank, you commit a criminal act and you understand why a person who would do that does not "turn themself in". Marshawn or whoever was driving had an accident. Nothing more. Foolish to drive away, but there may be an explanation for that. Do these guys (after the car has been identified) really think that by keeping quiet this whole thing will go away? That's laughable. The police will solve this, and when they do, they'll likely be less inclined to cooperate. Add the NFL commissioner and the victim to that list too, and look at what this has done to Lynch's public perception. People will see him in a different light now. Just another NFL athlete that can't keep his nose clean. He should have cooperated immediately IMO. He (and whoever was driving if not him) will pay a higher price now that they didn't. Lawyers give bad advice too. -

I don't agree with the Ghetto reference, but I do agree that Marshawn is taking the wrong path here. He's hiding something and by doing so he's likely pissing off the victim, the DA, Bills mangement and the Commissioner. How you handle a problem matters when you could be facing an arrest, a law suit and discipline from your employer. He's chosen to compete rather than to cooperate, which usually causes your opponent(s) to compete rather than to cooperate. Sooner or later the facts will be exposed. He's only motivating his opposition. -

He's not being smart IMO by not talking. This just inflames the situation. You don't want a pissed off victim or a pissed off DA. All you do is motivate them to sue or prosecute harder. The victim can easily file a suit against him and his insurance company since they know it was his car. The criminal piece of this is the least of his worries. The victim doesn't need that to pursue a claim and the league doesn't even need an arrest to punish him either. Marshawn is just making this worse for himself each day IMO.
