1. How do they compare to other teams?  For all I know this makes no difference at all. We've had plenty of big players who couldn't stop a turtle.

    643168

I'll take the Pats for example since they are the standard in the NFL.

    Tackle - Wilfolk 6-2 325

    Backer - Vrabel 6-4 261

    Safety - Harrison 6-1 220

I know there is more to it then pounds and height. The Bills are due to play some really good runningbacks this season. I can see teams wearing the Bills out up the middle. I would prefer to have teams forced to run to the outside where Spikes and Fletcher can do what they best. Run side to side. Fletcher can't make plays with a 300 pound gaurd in his chest.

  2. OK. Let's try this again, since you've obviously had a hard time getting a straight answer from this bunch the first time.  0:)

I don't know the responsibilities of the 'other' DT in the Dungy/Kiffin Tampa Bay cover-2 (TBC2) defensive scheme. I remember they had DT Warren Sapp playing alot of 1-gap - either a 1 technique (shade off the C), 2i tech (shade inside the OG), or the 3-tech (shade outside the OG). This made the interior O linemen reset their 'base' after the snap to get a piece of the undersized, but quick, Sapp (6'2" - 300lb). I'd say that Triplett (6'2" - 295lb) and Anderson (6'3" - 304lb) will be used much the same way as Sapp.

I'm assuming (yeah, I know  ) that the 'other' DT in this D would have to be an aggressive 2-gapper who can demand double-teams. That guy's not on the roster yet. Our heftiest guy is 310lb. I can't see Fewell(?) starting the season with two relatively small DTs in the front four, but he better convince Marv to get him some beef to anchor the middle or as you say, Fletcher will see alot of guys getting to him off combo blocks (C or OG chips the DT, then heads upfield for a LB) because the DTs can both be handled.

Also, something else for Fewell to lose sleep about.... Whose his Simeon Rice?

    Schobel, Kelsay?

Whose his Derrick Brooks or Shelton Quarles?

Kiffin still run s the TBC2 for Gruden and he's got 7 out of 8 LBs on the roster who are 235 or lighter. I'm thinking they're fast. Fewell currently has 7 out of 8 LBs who are 235 or heavier!

Our entire D roster needs an overhaul. Getting faster at SS is a start. I've never seen Bowen play, but I hear he's faster than Milloy. Vincent's a converted CB, so he can handle his side. But who is Fewell gonna drop back into the deep middle of the TBC2? We don't have LB's that match up well in what's basically a cover-3 using an LB with the safeties. Spikes is probably our most athletic LB and he's coming off a bad wheel.

    It's gonna be interesting.

I saw your first response. Thanks again. On the advice of another poster I started this thread.

  3. I know there is time left. June 1st cuts and the Draft are still avenues for the Bills to improve. Next to the offensive line I would like to see the Bills address the gut of the defense.

    Tripplet 6' 1" 295 lbs

    Fletcher 5' 10" 245 lbs

Bowen 6' 1' 203 lbs (biggest of the Safeties)

That's not a lot of size right up the gut of the defense. Haloti Ngata is a player who can bring instant size. 6' 4" 340 lbs. I can't see the Bills going in another direction which such a huge hole in the center of the defense.

  4. Not just money ball baseball guys.

But... Except that, exactly... Look where the Sox came from this year to win the WS... NOWHERE.

They might not do well this year... But, they plucked one last year

I know it makes everyone feel better to take the small handfull of times that a quick turn around happens and pretend it could happen to the Bills. At some point reality has to step in. The Sox have been building a team for years. They have been around the .500 mark then made the big jump. The Bills are not even at the .500 stage. :P

  5. It's hard to have 'pollyanna' posts when the team is coming off a 5-11 season and seems to be making no progress to change their fortunes. Many of us have been Bills Fans for 20-30+ years. Though that doesn't make us qualified to be GM. I know for myself it makes me comfortable enough in my opinion, based on past expeirence, to challenge some of the decisions made at One Bills Drive.

"You guys don't know how great you have it." It is pretty cool to live in an NFL city. But it comes with a price tag. The tax money poured into The Ralph is a nice chunk of change. I think having tax dollars regulary going to the team creates a sense of entitlement. Ralph Wilson makes a ton of money off of WNY. His Stadium is repaired for him. Ticket sales, parking, beer and TV paying huge amounts to gain our attention so they can sell 30 second spots directed at us for millions of dollars that go straight to his pocket. His payroll is paid for by the TV contract. So when I as a fan feel I have the right to say something when the Bils don't bring in players to improve the team? I will.

I'm not saying that 'polly anna' posts have no place. There are people who love Marv being GM because it'a a familiar name that makes them comfortable. Just like many that wanted Haslett to be head coach or those who want Steve Tasker to coach the special teams. Again, that's fine. I disagree with those thoughts. It doesn't make me right and them wrong. It just means we think different. :P

  6. did u not read.......

we have crowell- he played for tko last yr.....

    calm down people

    642368

    Is Crowell moving to tackle?

Unless the Bills address the interior part of the defensive line, linebackers won't be able to make the plays because they don't have the size needed upfront to eat up blockers.

Tripplett right now is their best tackle. The problem is you can account for him in the offensive scheme with one on one blocking. Unlike Adams and Williams who would eat up multiple blockers freeing up Fletcher and others to get to the ball carrier untouched. :P

  7. I agree with the original post.  I dont think we'll get any serious offers since teams will just assume the Bills wont keep an 8 million contract on their payroll if Moulds refuses to play and will eventually cut him.

Moulds holds all the cards here.

And yes, if he doesnt play...he doesnt get paid at all...but we STILL have to keep that huge contract on payroll and make room for it, so it seems kind of a waste to do so.  Moulds is trying to force the Bills to cut him...not trade him to get some sort of compensation...but to just cut him.

And I think eventually thats just what we'll do.  It sucks...but tis the reality of the NFL.

    641619

What's wrong with Moulds wanting the Bills to live up to the contract they signed? The Bills wil be the ones walking away. Bills came to Moulds looking to cut his pay. He's not looking for a raise. The Bills are the ones holding Moulds out on a string. If they don't plan to keep him then they are just screwing him over by not releasing him.

  8. Granted, we all know the Bills OL needs work and has been a huge focal point this offseason, as well as the DT position.

    But what about the Linebackers?

Fletcher- He is not getting younger, still very good, but for how much longer?

Spikes- Heart of a lion, but will reality overtake his heart and will he ever be the same? Achillies injuries are so hard to overcome

Posey- Have never been a big fan, we need an upgrade here.

I highly doubt that AJ Hawk would ever slip to #8 in the draft, but are there LB's that would be available in the 2nd or 3rd round that would be a big help?

Right now the Bills have tallent at LB. It may be aged but it wil have to do for now. The O-line has nothing. You have a project in Peters and not much else. The Bills fumbled big time by not being a bigger player in the O-Line free agent market. There is a chance they can get at least one starter in the Draft. Even if the draft pick panned out it would leave the Bills with only one good lineman.

  9. Really? What do you expect the guy yo write?

What great signings Nall, Royal and Tripplett are?

The only people who like what the Bills are doing are the ones that would say what great a job they were doing if they signed no one.

I know it's easy to keep the rose color glasses on but really. Look at what the Bills have done, or haven't done, and explain to everyone how they are better? I would love to know.

Is Tripplett going to keep lineman off of the linebackers? He hasn't done it his whole carreer why would he start now.

You have a smallish Defensive Tackle, a smallish Middle Linebacker and either a rookie or a scrub at Safety. You don't have to be Charlie Weis to know where Curtis Martin, Corey Dillion and Ronnie Brown are going to be heading.
