The one position we should not take at 8
Dibs replied to bufffan031's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When I used the words...."who show enough to be selected".....I actually meant QBs who are worthy of being selected that high, not QBs who would normally be the 45th pick(or similar) and sneak into the top 36 through desperation. Ron Jaws: "I think he'll be a solid starter in the NFL".....his 1st rated QB. "I think he'll be a good pro".....his 4th rated QB. Mel Kiper: "You have a first round quarterback in Geno Smith. I've said all along he's 20 to 32." Greg Cosell: "Cosell isn't alone in his high regard for Nassib. The National Football Post's Russ Lande, recently hired as college scouting director for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes, has Nassib rated as the No. 1 player regardless of position on his draft board." Scouts Inc: 2 QBs actually graded in the top 32 player.....as we know QBs are typically selected higher than their actual grading, they have 4 who likely will be selected in the top 36. SI.com: QBs rated 1, 20, 35 & 39 DraftTek: QBs rated 7 & 30.....and 37 & 42 I can't be bothered looking for more....this shows that some of the experts who you claim back your view, actually don't......and certainly shows that not "everybody" believes as you do(most don't from the looks of things). Your position that there are no QBs who are legitimate 1st round talents is somewhat tenuous considering what the "experts" are saying.....and for you to dogmatically put this opinion across as if it was instead a fact.....and therefore totally discount any different opinion as somehow idiotic is quite annoying. -

Why make rash assumptions about me(and I have noticed others as well)? If there aren't any 1st round quality QBs in this draft.....of course I don't want us to pick a QB just for the hell of it. Who is this "everyone" you talk about? From everything I have seen, there is likely between 2 and 4 QBs who show enough to be selected in the top 36 picks. Nearly every analyst has at least one QB rated as a 1st round talent. Everyone? Maybe link me 3 and I'll consider changing my view.......which btw is that if there are good QBs to be had in the 1st, then we need to draft one of them. -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

Actually..... Seahawks would have been 10-6.....the same as the Vikings & Bears. Having beaten both of those teams head-head during the season, the Seahawks would have made the playoffs anyway. -
Technically Brees is Rd 2......but as the 32nd player picked, he is the equivalent of a modern day 1st round player.

No....I just like people to make some sort of logical sense when they start threads. I would love it if there is a QB worth getting at #8.....wouldn't you? I would also love it if there are other 1st round QB talents......and we either trade down from #8.....or trade up into the 1st from #41 to grab one.....wouldn't you? -

Was actually 10-6(2007) and 9-7(2011).....but your point still stands. -

How do you know that we are not taking a QB at 8? As there are many, many(most?) posters who believe that there is a good chance we take a QB at 8(particularly if Geno is still available).....it makes no sense to write what you did.....where you assumed that there is somehow a vast consensus agreement or blatantly obvious logic that we will not be drafting a QB at 8. "The ONE position we should not take at 8" If you believe we shouldn't take a QB at 8......why state there is only ONE position that you believe we should not take at 8(that being OL)? -
How much money? You are so far wrong I don't know where to start. I'm not too lazy to look things up.....try these threads for some information.... http://forums.twobil...b/#entry2712778 http://forums.twobil...t/#entry2743099

The one position we should not take at 8

Really? Did you use telepathetic powers to understand why the OP would list virtually every position as "the best way to go" yet failed to mention any thoughts about the QB position(which he later acknowledged was our greatest need)......or some sort of special logic that I'm unaware of? -
The one position we should not take at 8
Dibs replied to bufffan031's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who said we are not taking one at 8? I think we are quite likely taking one at 8.......why are we definitely and (apparently to you) obviously not taking one at 8? You stated the one position we should not take.....and that was OL. You've just acknowledged that our biggest need is QB......yet you didn't mention it in your OP. If you believed we shouldn't take QB at #8(as well as not taking OL)......your thread should have been titled "The 2 positions we should not take at 8". There was a great deal of logic lacking in your OP......so much so that I legitimately thought it could be a clever trolling thread(still might be). Re-read your OP. It says "no to OL"..... .....so pick LB,S,CB,WR or TE..... ....which is every other position apart from our two strongest areas(DL & RB)......and apart from the area we are in the most need which also happens to be the most important position on the team(QB). It made no sense......sorry if I offended by accusing you of trolling(if you aren't one). -
Quite possibly. I'm thinking they will go QB with their 1st round pick(#20).

WTF?!?!? The only non-ST positions you haven't accounted for are DL, RB & QB.......and QB by far is our greatest need and by far the most important position on a team......and a "playmaker" position. Is this a well orchestrated troll thread? My brain hurts. -
Thanks for this .... Though he may not grade them, his comments, when cut to the core show the above 4 likely to be selected inside the top 36(where nearly all of the good QB prospects get picked). I've taken the liberty of re-wording the Scouts Inc. list below.... They have Smith and Barkley graded a good level above the others......with all of the rest being somewhat similar(apart from Scott & Dysert). When you look at their player rankings......and factor that QBs generally will be selected around 20 places higher than their overall ranking....Scouts Inc. ratings would likely also see 4 QBs selected in the first 36 picks......but they would be Smith, Barkley, Nassib & Wilson(maybe). The more I see of the "experts" predictions, the more I come to think that the 2 QBs who I would put money on going in the 1st round are Smith & Nassib.

I personally think that the Bills have had a tremendous amount of luck over the last decade. If there was a QB who's name meant "Change"......now that's a player I could irrationally get behind superstitiously based upon his name. -
Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
Dibs replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It proves a whole bunch of things.....but you are right in that it doesn't technically prove everything, and certain obvious assumptions are being made. Why be so paranoid on the concept that there is some sort of poison pill for the fans in this quite straight forward looking contract? I think we can be safe in assuming that the incentives are not going to be semi-automatic(why write them in the deal if they are?).......but tied to percent of snaps(ala TJackson's deal) or some equivalent. This means that if the rookie we draft remains healthy and is not a total disaster then Kolb will only see 3m(including the 1m SB) in year 1. We also know that there are only 6.9m in incentives for the two years......so the total deal with incentives is the originally quoted 2yr/13m deal. If the rookie is a disaster & Kolb starts all of the games.....he gets 6.5m/year maximum. I am happy with the assumption that the incentives won't be stacked 80% in 2013(to achieve an 8m 2013 hit as you fear) as the rest of the contract is roughly 40% 2013 -- 60% 2014. You have to be trying really, really hard IMO to see this contract as anything other than good for the Bills. We get a relatively cheap yet qualified backup......who if the fit hits the shan becomes a relatively cheap yet qualified starter. -
Less than 2 weeks till the draft, your pick at #8
Dibs replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess this is another thread that needs to be rethought now that we know that the details of Kolb's contract have him being paid as a middling backup. -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

Inconceivable! -
Do they give them some sort of numerical score or anything similar? A ranking means little if they class all(or even some) of the QBs to be of very similar skill level.

Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
Dibs replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But what if Marrone & Co. have assessed that Nassib does not have a chance to become an elite QB? Logically there is more chance that Nassib does not have that elite potential in him......and since Marrone knows him the best, he theoretically should know it......therefore it does not take a rocket surgeon to understand why the Bills in all likelihood will not draft Nassib. That being said......if Nassib does have that potential then I hope we do select him at #8. -
Yes....34 years ago. I did however stipulate "In the last 25 years".
-
I took the liberty of reducing your Dick list to the two finalists(IMO).
-
It's only going to matter if the rookie we draft bombs out......Kolb is a backup baby. 2 years/6.1m (2.15m 2013 cap hit) 1m signing bonus 6.9m in incentives(unlisted at this point). http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/kevin-kolb/

Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
Dibs replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kolb is definitely projected to be our backup. Some of Kolb's contract details: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/kevin-kolb/ Looks like the deal is.... 2 years/6.1m 1m signing bonus 6.9m in incentives(unlisted at this point). To all those who thought that Kolb's signing would effect our direction regarding the upcoming draft(selecting a QB etc)......it definitely looks like it won't.
