I understand what you are saying. Decades of being a Bills fan is ringing warning bells for me this week. Though my head can see just where we are at......the pavlov's dog response to this sort of game has me irrationally fearful that what I have seen so far this season is a mirage and the Bills will crash back down and crush the life out of me this week.

You really advocate that teams release their players that don't produce withing the first season? As a standard rule? Does that include the extremely cheap later draft picks and UDFAs, or just the higher(yet still cheap) draft picks that they previously assessed one year prior to have the best potential to become decent/good/great players in the NFL?
-
I'm the opposite. I recognize the name first......but it has been commented on before that my brain is a little off kilter.

lol....yeah, pretty much. It seems that you are basically saying that if your Aunt had balls.......she'd be your Uncle. If McCargo didn't play like a bust and instead played like a very good player.....he wouldn't be a bust. Is your point that the high risk factor & moving up in the draft to obtain McCargo would be irrelevant if he had not been a bust......therefore it should be irrelevant when discussing the concept that he is a bust?

I don't have any problem with anybody pointing out and acknowledging when a player is playing badly. People regularly however call for young players(particularly high draft picks) to be cut, or espouse the view that the draft pick was wasted after only 1.5 seasons. As AW(and many a good player around the league) has shown however, ofttimes young players need a full season or two, and sometimes three to become solid/good/great players. Agreed. But this concept also highlights the point that calling a young player a bust(and wasted draft pick) after only a year or two in the league is premature.

Fair enough. He certainly has memory problems in regards to people's reactions to AW last year on the board though. AW was a TBD whipping boy. It's great to see AW progress as he has......and perhaps a good reminder for people who are quick to abuse young players that, though difficult, patience is the best course of action.

He only joined TBD in January 2013. It's possible he lurked previously.....but his comment has me thinking otherwise.

Everything is possible.......but this is highly improbable.

Now we get to see what we have for 7 games

Our #2 and likely #3 WR will miss this week. Maybe we can start the season next week instead? -
Lawson is on the first year of a 4 year contract. We have him till the end of 2016.

Wow, slide 4(of 6).

Ya'll may think I'm crazy but I love this team, warts and all

I have no idea what you are talking about. Most of our starters are young......and very few are due to be FAs in the next 2 seasons. 2014: Byrd, Carrington, Chandler 2015: Dareus, A.Williams, Legursky, Pears -
Really? Which ones?

Blah, blah, feet/knees etc, blah, blah.....where the receiver has clear possession of the ball determined by the discretion of the refs. The NFL should let the refs do their job and adjudicate the game without having to cowtow to minutiae.

A Few Thoughts About The Game, in no particular order....
Dibs replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They obtained one of the best available veteran QBs on the FA market to back up their rookie starter. The vet gets injured......there are no decent ones left on the market......what would you have done better at that point? Any team that has its starter and backup QB go down injured is going to be flailing about in the dark trying to find a legit replacement. -

I think MRW & Alphadawg7 put it nicely in a different thread..... -

No problems there.....he is signed through the 2015 season. Aaron is the overlooked Williams on the Bills D. They were 2nd & goal on the 8. In that position the only objective is to get the TD. Clock management be hanged......call the play you think has the best chance for the TD. This comment really makes no sense. A legit QB would have come away with the TD in that play(SJ was open). As a coach, you either trust your players to be able to make the plays(like the long bomb earlier in the game), or you don't have them play. Focusing only on the negatives(and I agree, that play couldn't be any more negative) does a disservice to the overall picture. With a 4th string QB starting against a top 5 defense, we managed to rack up 470 yards......and if not for a fluke bad play, we likely would have won. Agreed. Fantastic defensive performance(though a takeaway would have been nice)......but again, I don't get the negativity regarding the offensive coaches. It was the coaches who have been hamstrung with a 4th string QB.....and horrible QB play all season. It's like the talent just sprung out of the woodwork this year. McKelvin, A.Williams, Dareus, Kiko, Lawson, Woods. Hopefully EJ joins the surprises and by years end we will have our good QB play. A new TE(as you mentioned earlier) would be a nice addition next off-season too. On that there can be no objections. Go BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
We are down to our 4th QB. What level of planning do most teams do for depth at QB?

Official Bills v Chiefs second half thread
Dibs replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. I don't know what game you just watched, but I watched a Bills team that had they had a QB would have dominated the unbeaten Chiefs. -
You don't perhaps think that mid-season is a tad early to start drafting threads for potential 7th round draft picks?
-
Was I the only one who thought some of the questions were inherently problematic? Asking somebody who has the reputation for being quiet how he feels about people making comments that he is quiet is surely an exercise in futility.
-
IMO it doesn't make too much difference if you start a bad, crappy or mediocre QB. With all of those options you must rely upon the rest of the team and coaching to win the game. It's only when you get a QB who is good or better that it actually makes much difference to W/L. As none of our QB options(even EJ at this point) could be considered to be above mediocre, I don't really see much difference in our chances to win with any of them starting.

Even with the full understanding that Brady has a far lesser support cast around him this season, I think it quite obvious that he is indeed in decline. Though he still has some magic that enables him to help the Pats win games, it is clear that his abilities have become reduced this season. Looking at the measurable statistics: QBR(27th): 74.9 Worst year of his career. The closest others being in his first 3 years(2001-2003), 86.5, 85.7, 85.9. All others (apart from 2006, 87.9) were in the 90's, 100's and 110's. YPA(30th): 5.94 Worst year of his career. Similar to QBR, the closest others being the first 3 years and 2006(6.9, 6.3, 6.9, 6.8). All others were in the 7's and 8's. ESPN's Total QBR(16th): 48.6 Only measured since 2006 but by far the worst of his career. Previous years saw(starting in 2006, not including 2008) 62.4(4th), 87.1(1st), 66.5(10th), 77.0(1st), 73.0(3rd), 77.7(2nd) All other stats excluding INTs are towards the bottom of the league.
