I'm hoping we bottom out this year: 0-16. Here's why.
Dibs replied to ThurmasThoman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that was the intent at all. Pears regressed, Hairston PUP, & Brown apparently consistently looked awesome in practice but turned out awful in games. Furthermore, we had so many holes to fill that the OL(mistakenly assumed to be decent/good) took lower priority than QB, LB & WR. The Bills new management made an error(things didn't work out as planned)......and the very next year they have attempted to rectify said error. As for the last comment, (from memory)Marrone doesn't believe in the whole time/cohesive unit thing. He believes you put your best OLmen out there and talent will shine through. Him being an OL guy, I'm not going to second guess him on that one either. -

We get it. You don't think that EJ will develop into a good enough QB(though you admit yourself that you are regularly wrong in your assessment of a QB's potential). Why oh why can't the Bills management see what you see, cut EJ, and try again to find our franchise QB? It will save us years.....or at least one year. <stamps foot> The thing is, the current management drafted EJ with the belief that he was raw and would take time to develop. You can't change this. Convincing other Bills fans won't change this. Nothing you do or think can change the fact that EJ is the Bills' #1 QB until he shows otherwise. Considering the concept that you know that your assessment on EJ could well be wrong.....you might as well just sit back and root for him to succeed, rather than treating every discussion covering the miriad of other factors involving the Bills as irrelevant(since EJ is going to fail, therefore all other topics become moot). -
Whitner calls out Sammy, Bills fans,Tim Graham,Talley...
Dibs replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To make it even stranger IMO is that they let the younger and better(arguably) Ward walk.....and signed Whitner up to a more expensive and longer contract than what Ward got with the Broncos($1.375M less/year). -

Not exactly. They owe him his 2014 salary ($2M guaranteed) and he got a $9M signing bonus. This would make an $11M dead cap hit if they cut him. Only 6 safeties in the league are on significantly better contracts. -

You really expect the Browns to cut him and incur an $11M dead cap hit? -

What a total cockhead! (Can I say that? I hope so because he really is one). Until now I have been relatively neutral towards him. Now? Well, if he wants me to lose my beloved Bills......I hope he contracts gonorrhea. -

Significantly better? Sorry, that is incorrect. Lewis had a better QBR (81.0 to 77.7) whereas EJ had the better Total QBR (42.3 to 24.1). I could go through the stats but both QBs having similar QBRs means that statistically speaking, neither was significantly better than the other. -
At the moment I am in pain when I laugh.......you just caused me a great deal of pain! Hilarious & worth it.

Very good post. One of your best IMO. -
The sad thing is I was partly not joking. I feel so depressed about the Kiko injury that I'm grasping at any form of superstitious nonsense to counter the obvious curse that clouds the Bills. ......and I like the red helmets.
-
If we had the red helmets, Kiko wouldn't have torn his ACL.

Who Is Your Most Correctly Rated Bill?
Dibs replied to ICanSleepWhenI'mDead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with that assessment but have noticed a large number of people tend to rate him very much below that......thus making him commonly incorrectly rated. -
It's funny how things go sometimes. In 2012, the Bills W/L was 2-8 in the 10 games FJ played......and 4-2 in the 6 he didn't.
-
Seriously? You concede the point you made was incorrect by changing your original post to.... ........and then accuse me of being the grammar police? Had the original post said what you later changed it to, I wouldn't have disagreed. I'm not a mind reader. I can't tell that you mean something totally different to what you write.

Not having much ability to personally assess players, this is a difficult topic for me(heh, should be for a vast majority of people too ). Based upon his one year breakout production in a blitz happy system with 3 probowl DLmen & a superior secondary......I'd say Jerry Hughes. I'd also have to agree also with one of the previous posters......Sammy Watkins. I think it reasonable to rate him as a potential superstar, but until he produces something on the field it is unreasonable IMO to rate him as even a decent WR at this point.

Yardbarker: Aaron Williams 6th-best Safety in NFL
Dibs replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
......and the concept perhaps had some baring on the Byrd negotiations. Some posters should probably reassess their harsh opinions on the management re Byrd. Legitimate kudos to you on this one......and in reference to your OP in that thread, it looks like we signed him for a chunk less than what we were willing to pay Byrd, so kudos to the Bills management too. -
That was nasty!
-
Now it sounds like you are just arguing for the sake of it. I know that you are aware of the spurious nature of forcing the inclusion of a player's rookie season into their overall assessment(if it took them time to acclimate to the NFL or they were backing up good players). Not comparing CJ to OJ Simpson whatsoever......one wouldn't reduce their assessment of OJ's abilities simply because his first 3 seasons were mediocre.

"Classic" Song Makes You Wonder Why it Still Receives Air Play

Ugg.....a great example of soft rooster rock. -
It seems to me that you are only really arguing with a select few people. I think that most of us Spiller fans realize now that he is not an every down back and won't become the league leading RB that his amazing talents have hinted at(due to all of the factors mentioned throughout this thread). There is a big difference I think in arguing against the concept that "Spiller is a great RB" and that of "Spiller can be a great complimentary RB and an asset to the team". That said, I am personally hopeful that we get one year where everything clicks for him and he is consistently awesome....but I'm not holding my breath.
-
But you just used the injury issue as a rebuttal. If the argument is about production, then considering that most RBs are regularly hampered by injuries, raising the injury issue is irrelevant. I do agree with your point about other posters raising the injury issue as an excuse, as all RBs suffer the injury factor. Neither side should logically be claiming the injury factor as a reason why Spiller is/isn't worth having on the team.
-
The inconsistency issue is legitimate IMO. He may show more consistency in the right situation(fingers crossed for future seasons).....but maybe not. The injury comment is a bit unrealistic. FJ has had injuries which has hampered his performance every year for the last 5 years. McCoy injured 3 of the last 4 seasons. Forte, Charles, Peterson.....all regularly injured. It seems there are very few RBs who survive an NFL season without having either games missed or performance hindered due to injury.
-
Just on this point above..... There is a common misconception as to how many carries a typical starting RB has. Last year there were only 2 above 300 carries(314 & 301), 5 above 280 carries(17.5/game), 10 above 250 carries(15.6/game) and 15 above 220 carries(13.75/game). The days of the 25 carries per game(400 carries) RB might be gone(at least for the foreseeable future) as more teams have become less reliant on a single workhorse RB and are spreading the load. Marrying in to other aspects covered in this thread, this is also a likely reason as to why RBs are commanding lower contracts and being drafted later in the draft.
-
That question relates solely to assessing management and has nothing to do with Spiller as a player.
