  1. I feel I need to point out that there is two main types of deprsssion. There are those people who suffer from long term clinical depression where no matter their life situation, they will always feel the illness(poor Mr Williams was likely a suffer of this.....as are people close to me). Then there are the rest of us who can periodically throughout our lives suffer from the illness....often caused by situational preasures etc. Both can be serious situations.....but there is good medications that can help. It is very important IMO to ask people that you have concerns about(and care about) if they are OK. As many would know, it is not always easy to ask for help when you are at rock bottom. I would also suggest that if appropriate, to take said loved one to the doctor(oftimes words are not enough and actions can help save a life). I would also like to say that I have always been impressed with the overall level of maturity on TSW when it comes to discussing mental illness.
  2. You sir, are a very special person.
  3. It appears that you are spot on with that summary. Unfortunately it only states what is somewhat obvious. Essentially if EJ has an above average year this season(above the median....not exactly impressive play), then he will have more of a chance to develop into a franchise QB than if he has a below average year. In the end, one still won't know until after he has either shown himself to be good.....or be a bust. Until that happens, it simply comes down to percentages.
  4. I totally agree, however this isn't about the natural evolution of the English language. It is about the misquoting of an old saying by a member of the media. The old saying is "Champing at the bit", meaning to be excited to get started. If the public blindly accept such ineptitude, where will it lead? Will it become commonplace to hear "a diamond dozen" instead of "a dime a dozen"? Or "one foul swoop" instead of "fell swoop"? Or "nip it in the but" instead of "bud". Or perhaps "the end all be all" will become acceptable over "the be all and end all"?(too late for that one I feel). I am not adverse to a response to this. I'd like to say that I could care less but I am actually on tender hooks and for all intensive purposes this is not a mute point. Though it may be a doggy dog world, it can't be taken for granite that I and speaking tongue and cheek.
  5. But the question was....."Would you swap EJ for Fitz?" .....not "Would you be happy to add Fitz to this team?"
  6. I can read, and I can comprehend.....I guess I must be underrated.
  7. Who are you calling we, Kimosabe?
  8. Interestingly there were zero "obviously"s and only 3 "you know"s.
  9. Did I miss something? Goodwin isn't out for the season or anything is he?
  10. I don't think it was high on Marrone's priority list at the time. Perhaps he should have considered us fans and gone against his own plans(which I'm sure he had several good reasons for).....and put EJ out there for longer just so we(the fans) could have a larger sample size to judge him on.
  11. I didn't notice that.....but it is indeed very interesting.
  12. Minus 1 yards, and 7 yards.
  13. How long have you been back? Good to see ya!
  14. So what you're saying is that EJ has regressed from last year! OMG we're DOOOOOMED!
  15. This guy wasn't even drafted.......we could have had him in the 7th!!!
  16. The Fitz deal was actually $10M/year. They didn't "let him walk", they cut him. Why? Because he was on $10M/year and was not willing to take a pay cut. $10M/year for a backup QB is not a salary one wants with what was essentially a young rebuild team. Had we kept him we would have been facing a $10M cap hit the following year, and the next etc. It was really all about the money......and the value thereof.
  17. Firstly I will say that I agree with the base premise of what you are saying......and that is that the loss of the #1 pick next year will be extremely unlikely to effect our QB situation. It will only be the case IMO if EJ gets a major injury or shows no improvement......not a high likelihood. You word everything however in very a definitive and contained manner. If they did indeed word things as "have no way to acquire a QB" you are obviously correct as there is always some chance of obtaining one elsewhere. What was most probably said was that there was very little chance of obtaining one......which is true.....and that goes against your major points. In regards to your list of QBs, surely if one was trying to obtain "a QB" one actually means trying to obtain "a Franchise QB". This instantly removes KC Chiefs from your list as Smith is at best a game manager. On analyzing QBs drafted it becomes apparent that the term "1st round pick" is very limiting. For varying reasons(a main one being the top 4-5 teams in the draft sometimes don't have a value QB pick available in the 1st round), the top 4(6+?) selections in the 2nd round of the draft are often used on QBs who are deemed to have decent potential. For the sake of selecting a number, the Top 36 selections seems to fit very well. It also likely applies to this particular situation as it is unlikely that the Bills will be getting a top 4 pick in the 2nd round. Throwing away the generic/basic(and ill conceived) "1st round" bracket and replacing it with a more realistic "Top 36" bracket.......we now remove San Fran & Bengals from your list(picks 36 & 35 respectively). Moving on to Denver & New Orleans. It does appear that every 6 years or so a Franchise QB gets injured, moves teams, and recovers from the injury. Being generous of saying 1 in 5 year.......there are 20 teams who would like to sign said QB......making it a 1 in 100 chance each year for an individual team to obtain a Franchise QB via this route. This leaves your list with Seatle, New England & Philadelphia. I am personally not convinced with Foles.....but it does raise the concept that perhaps(and it is a big perhaps) talent evaluation of QBs is not as good as it has been in the past(meaning that Franchise QBs are becoming more common after the top 36 draft selections). Looking at QBs selected form pick 37 to end of 6th round.....between Brady 2000 & up to just before Wilson(& Foles) 2012(2000-2011)...... ....we have 94 drafted QBs with only 1(Brady) becoming a Franchise QB. Roughly put.....about a 1 in 100 chance. Even if one assumes it has become more commonplace......this likely only puts it to....what?....1 in 40?.....1 in 30? Simply put, the chances of finding your Franchise QB outside of the top 36 draft spots is at best about 1 in 25 each year. Oh.....and at this point it looks like the Bills will have around $25M of cap space next year(plus any base cap increase).
  18. Though I can see that many would find this show too slow etc......IMO it has been outstanding. It may well lose its way as the story progressess but so far I am very impressed with the show.
  19. Isn't that 3 things?
  20. I don't like to lump myself into any form of fruitloop brigade(apart from Bills fan) so I don't call myself a Whovian.....though I do own all of the DVDs(including all of the old stuff ).....and am very much looking forward to the new Peter Capaldi Doctor. Torchwood(seasons 3+4) IMO is some of the best Sci-Fi/Horror ever made for TV(regardless of spin-off status)......particularly season 3 "Children of Earth".
  21. I was being a bit more technical than that. Yes, each side of the house is facing South, but the question states the house sides all have Southern exposure. Exposure to what? In the North Pole they wouldn't be exposed to anything relating to South apart from directional facing. The question misused the word exposure. For 7 months of the year, all sides of that house would be exposed to the Northern sun, thus in architectural terms one would say it had Northern exposure on all 4 sides. Every side would be exposed to the same effects as if facing North.
  22. You mean Happy Days, yes?
  23. Downton Abbey is a UK show so I'd think country of origin is irrelevant(unless Orphan Black isn't shown in the US.....is it?)
  24. I think technically #10 should have 4 sides with Northern exposure(not Southern). #20: President wasn't born in 1950 so he wasn't called anything.
  25. I don't understand what constitutes a "Miniseries or movie". It has Fargo & American Horror story in it.......but True Detective gets put into drama. I'm confused. Also.....Tatiana Maslany(Orphan Black) gets snubbed again. What's up with that?
