Sorry about that....it was almost 5:30pm here &....well..... HE LOOKS LIKE THE NUTTY PROFFESOR!!! Back to seriousness... did Nance go undrafted because of his injuries or ??? I'm a little baffled how he could put up such huge stats & go undrafted.

I'm absolutely amazed how much emotion revolves around Bledsoe. There are several aspects discussed on this thread that are not diametrically opposed. 1. How good is Bledsoe? Bad/Average/Good/Great 2. Should we have gotten rid of him? 3. Would he have done as well as his replacement(s)? 4. Will he make the HOF? 5. ETc, etc, etc. Just because someone thinks he should have been gotten rid of when we did, does not mean that that someone does not think he is a Good QB. Just because someone thinks he will make the HOF does not mean they think he is a Great QB. Just because someone thinks he would have done as well or better than his replacement(s) last year does not mean they think he should have been retained nor does it mean they think he is a great or even a good QB. I have a migraine today & it has annoyed the !@#$ out of me that some of you on this post respond to one point with a totally seperate point which does not contradict, refute nor even relate to that point. Sorry for lumping everyone together but I think the ones who know what I'm talking about know I'm not talking about them.

Um...I don't understand why you reference my post with your post. I get that you would have kept Bledsoe rather than try JP but... I havn't really 'knocked' Bledsoe at all(unless not putting him on the same level as Marino/Elway is putting him down). All I've done is put forward some thoughts on why I agreed with the concept of letting him go. I'm not one of the "folks who has such a big problem here".
-
Not at all. When I said Bledsoe is "not a great QB" I was being literal....as in....not one of the greats like Marino/Elway etc. I think he will probably eventually get into the HOF(based on the numbers) but I can't see that there can ever be much argument on weather he is one of the great QBs of NFL history. My point re: Losman/Bledsoe was more about the fact that Bledsoe cannot elevate a team & win (playoff) games off his ability alone(i.e. he isn't one of the 'greats') while Losman was/is an unknown potential & therefore has the possibility of being able to develop into that 'great' QB. Though a team does not need to have a 'great' QB to win the SB, it certainly gives you much more chance if you do have one.

I was under the impression that one of the reasons Marino had an O-line that struggled at run blocking was because he used his *star* influence to make sure his O-linemen were proficient at protecting him. Their run block ability was considered second to their pass protection ability. Don't get me wrong....I think Marino was one of the all-time greats but...perhaps he would have been better off having his ego reigned in a little. (note:- ego is not a dirty word) Can you imagine how Marino would have been if he called his plays ala Kelly? Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, etc. It's not a terrible knock to say someone so tallented had a flaw. In the end I blame Shula for giving him too much say in things.

Gosh, thanks I became a Bills fan because the first NFL game I ever saw was the Bills Superbowl loss to the Giants. At the start of the game, I picked one team(the Bills obviously) to root for. I picked the Bills over the Giants for 2 reasons... 1. The giants have a boring logo. 2. My buddy who introduced me to football(a Niners fan) told me the Bills had this RB who was really fun to watch. Not surprisingly, TT is still one of my favourite players. Needless to say I fell in love with the game(mainly the definitive tactics & precision of it) & have followed as close as I can from afar ever since. Thanks for being interested....it's fun to share. -

No brainer in hindsight. Sure Phat Pat is still great...but for how long? Schobel is a top 10 DE. He matches up with or betters most DEs in the league. By the way, I remember the days when most NFL magazines (pre internet) would slot Hansen into the #9 or #10 DE spot on their lists. Man that was an awesome D-line we had...Big Ted in the middle if I remember correctly. He was considered at one point to be #3 or there abouts. -

Hell yes. This shows to me the importance of team chemistry/confidence/motivation/drive. Arguments over how talented each player may or may not be is a bit irrelevant. How often is it that players(esp. O-linemen) change teams & perform at a much reduced level for their new team. If the group we have meshes well, are coached well & play with confidence & drive, I see no reason why they cannot produce at a quality level. -
I totally agree with your "Rings or stats alone shouldn't make a qb." statement. Your line above I feel goes contrary to this & in my mind is incorrect. If you look at the first 10 years of Elways 16year career, you will find he does not have either the stats nor the SB rings. He was however still considered one of the all time greats. The greats will generally gravitate to success but obviously if they are on sub-par teams with sub-par coaching they might only be able to get so far...i.e. Elways 3 SB losses. When a QB continually does the extraordinary & elevates his team to victories etc, we know he is a great QB regardless of his stats. If it is his team that falters at the later hurdles(not him), I don't believe he should be considered less than great because of it. I suppose the point on JP vs Bledsoe to me is/was.... Bledsoe is not a great QB...this we know. JP may become one...this we do/did not know Always go with what you know....Bledsoe is not a great QB.

I would have thought you would be expecting at least better than last years 5 wins. To my eyes there was an obvious (TD induced)pallor hanging over the entire team....and the term team might be stretching things a little. Perhaps the worst move TD did was to orchestrate things so that in the end, there was no team unity, drive, motivation, effort or even hope. With that malaise lifted, I can't see us not doing better.

And there I was assuming you were a pessimist. That has to be one of the most optimistic things I've seen you post. Unfortunately very optimistic for the Patriots, but optimistic non the less.
