I'm sick of the prattle, somebody tell me how!
Dibs replied to Dibs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Possible, but surely more likely they would still have taken Justice @39 since there were no OL prospects at the #14 spot. I know it's impossible to predict properly but how can people say we drafted poorly if they cannot come up with a reasonable alternative? -

So you are saying we take Bunkley at #8 and....well we would have picked at #42 in the second round while the Eagles grabbed Winston Justice at #39. Laces out. -
Is there an online audio link somewhere? I've heard a little about JPs 'style' in interviews & it has really made me curious.

Um...it wasn't an order, it was a request. I even said the magic word...you know, please. -

Sorry, what I was getting at is in order to say we could have a draft like the Bucs, you have to show how...based on where our picks were, which players were available etc....a reasonable trade or two is fair enough assuming you can justify the other side of the trade. For instance, TB got Trueblood at #59. Assuming no trade by us(which means we don't get McCargo), our 2nd round pick was #42. Either we massively reach for Trueblood & we don't get McCargo, or....what? It is easy to say we did it wrong. Show me how we could have done it right. -
Do you think it is possible that some people are the total opposite of this? Or that others might be in between the two types?

Not that I'm having a go at PGs typically long posts but.....

Please do not post here if you cannot be bothered to do any research into the possitioning of the players available & taken in the draft. IMO, having great lines is as useful as having a legitimate superstar at QB. Both scenarios give a team a much better chance of winning the superbowl. Both scenarios are also difficult to achieve. My point is....apart from the fact we took the third best DT in the draft in the 1st round(who happened to be the best fit for out defensive system)....and the fact we obtained one of the best available FA DTs(who also happened to best fit our defensive system)....people are still whinging about building a team from the lines out. Let us ignore the fact some of you would have taken Winston Justice with the #8 pick. Also, keep in mind that Reyes & Fowler having 28 & 23 NFL starts respectively will be far more likely to be stable linemen for us than any lottery draft pick(50% 1st round busts)...though potential for stardom is much reduced. Put your brains where your schit generally is.....show me who we should have drafted & where so that our 'lines' were better addressed & our team was better off in the long run for it.

With a bit(a lot) of luck, there wont be any scapegoats because we will be on the start of the progression to the Superbowl.

His 'dead cap' hit is $437,500 The total 'cap savings' is $1,750,000....oh goody, more money we can't spend this season. Why are so many down on Posey? As far as I've ever heard, he was a well respected & honorable player. So he didn't play as good as we were hoping....Why do people have to throw schit? Why can't he be wished well in his further career instead of given the metaphoric boot? If he was an A-Hole, I'd understand but.... The mentality baffles me.

Hiya, I just thought I'd chuck you my 2 cents worth.... I'm not a huge Jazz fan but am very partial to certain artists/styles. I'm also not hugely knowledgeable about it's history etc but maybe my layman talk will be of help. For me, Jazz is split into 2 forms. Weird & normal. The weird stuff is all instrumental with no immediate tune/melody involved with it. I'm not a big fan of this type. The normal Jazz has lovely melodies intrinsic to it's appeal. Billy Holliday(as mentioned above) is a great example. Others I particularly like are Bing Crosby...the soundtrack to 'High Society' with Bing, Frank, Louise Armstrong etc is another good example. It's a bit like the old 'Big Band' style with an injection of vocal cool....though a lot of the Big Band stuff is cool in it's own right. I hope my amateur ramblings are of help.

I totally agree & have no idea why they are not doing it(at least in part). Peters was another contract which could have used the method you suggest. Does anyone know a legitimate reason why we are not front loading our contracts(& reducing signing bonuses) since we have so much room under the cap?

5 years $29 mil??? That would have to be incorrect. Huff was 5 years $22.5 mil so there is no way Whitner gets $29 mil. He will be getting around $4 mil a year not $5 mil. This will put him under all of those vets that are getting around $5+ mil(Williams, Hope, Reed) This isn't to say I think an unproven rookie is worth this level of money....I don't think they are. I do think it's the same for all positions for rookies chosen in the top 10. Mario Williams...$10 mil per year. Bush........$10 mil per year. Young.......$10 mil per year. D'Brick......$5.5 mil per year. Hawk.......$6+ mil per year. VD...........$5 mil per year. Huff..........$4.5 mil per year. Whitner....$4+(?) mil per year. #11 Cutler....$8 mil per year. Perspective....Hawk gets $6 mil per year.....TKO(one of the best in the league) is getting $6.4 mil(including bonus) How is Safety any worse than the DE, QB, RB, TE, LB etc in regards to they get way too much money as unproven rookies?

I haven't bothered reading 6 pages of posts but..... The American tipping system is stupid IMO. Why not just pay people a livable wage in the first place so tipping is not required? It seems all of your employee service type jobs 'require' a tip. Why doesn't the employer just pay them more, & charge more for the room/dinner/taxi ride etc? Just an Aussie perspective.

If that is his bigest upside I say we get rid of him now.

I think ChicagoRic's point is quite valid. The guy is odd. He is a bit different from most people. To force him into the 'normal' mold surely would hinder his natural leadership qualities...he would come across false to those that really know him(team mates) & might even become insecure in himself(personality). Being odd does not mean one cannot be a great leader....in many cases it's what helps makes great leaders. Personally I could not care less whether JP is viewed by the masses as a doofus. As long as he performs on the field & develops good relationships with the rest of the team(showing leadership) I will be happy.

HUH? He is within the height range of most of the BEST SSs in the league!!! Carry on??? Putting forward reasonable counter arguments is carrying on? Interpretation of what you wrote: "I do not care about the facts indicating the contrary, he is small!!! *stamp foot* *spit dummy* *poke out tongue* Furthermore, you can keep making arguments I disagree with for as long as you want but my mind is made up & no amount of evidence will get me to even consider that the SS position has evolved since I last looked at it."

hahahaha I've ignored this thread for hours thinking it was an out of date rant. Thanks. Pleased to be fooled.

I fell you aren't being overly fair or balanced on this one. If the parameters are set, there still would be variables for the deals negotiation. There might be say...$500,000 variable(plus they still want to get the player for as little as possible). Marv might have known they were within say....$350,000 of each other & within $600,000 of signing bonus. When he gets word that the deal is done, why does he care about the specifics unless they are outside of his predetermined parameters? His numbers grunts will crunch the new figures for him & he will end up with the new cap figures & projections when that is done. Since he knew the ball park & he knew we still have loads of money free under the cap, there would be no pressing need to know the minutiae of the deal....apart from personal curiosity.
-
What he has done does not imply that at all. Why can't he, with his team, determine how much each player is worth & then let his delegated man(Overdorf) who is the expert at negotiating deals, make the deals.Once the parameters are set up, surely he only needs to get involved with the details if something falls outside of said parameters. A GM like TD might have stuck his nose into every aspect, second guessing the experts. Do people really want that from Marv?

You're not serious are you? The 3 that are shorter than him were in last years pro bowl 'Ed Reed' & 2 others are within .5 of an inch & 4 are within 1.5 inches. Of the 10 who are 6'0" or under(within 1.5 inches)...All 4 of last years probowlers & 7 probowlers in total are included. Of the 6 over 6'0", only 2 have been to pro bowls. This shows that most of the good young modern styled SSs are not tall. It certainly implies that the new prototypical height for a SS (for the modern game) is perhaps 5'11". As time progresses & old greats like Milloy & Harrison retire, I think you will find that the probowl will be made up of 5'11" & 5'10" tall SSs....if not already.

735706[/snapback] No he isn't great....he was a terrible pick I think I understand where port allegany is coming from. I've read many experts predicting that Evans is the real deal with all the tools etc & expect him to be a pro-bowler if we get a running game going &/or give the QB time to throw. The feeling here at TBD is as if he is a low pedigreed, late round selection WR that surprised us in his first two years & is now being counted on to step up to a huge challenge. He was picked #13....has played & progressed as a #13 should & now seems ready for the next progression. He might fail....but I can only realistically see that being due to QB/O-line, not due to the physical/mental abilities he has shown.
