Ummm....sorry to be the one to break it to you but there is virtually no guarantee on draft picks for them to perform right away......Whitner is perhaps a good example of one of the ones that does perform early....most either never perform....or you wait for their 3rd(4th) years for it to happen.

Since they are drawing comparisons to the Colts

But....he thought with a wry smile on his face.....they have been held to 14 points only once this season....that means they are due(in the next 8 games) to be held to 14 & under. That's a 1 in 8 chance. I'm happy enough with them odds. But wait....there's more. By sheer numerical odds one could easily look at Idy's scoring as being an aberration from the statistical norm & are due....that's DUE with capitol letters.....to come crashing back to earth with multiple shutouts to keep the league averages average. You can't argue with it....it's just simple mathematics. Colts fans will have to accept the mathematical inevitability that not only will we hold them to under 14 points....but shut them out entirely. Bills 24 Colts 0 -

I want JP to have the chance to throw for 300 yds

Are you aware that Iny ranks dead last in D against the run....both in yardage & YPC? -
Yep....& look how it's turning out for that big/talented/fast/dominant WR Randy Moss.
-
Has he improved recently....or has Williams regressed. Anderson started last week & is top of the depth chart still. Anybody know?
-
This game is reminding me of Pulp Fiction. The Colts are that guy Zed from the pawn shop & we are Marsellus Wallace just before Butch slices Zed. I hope Butch turns up early on Sunday.

I agree with your sentiment.....just not this week. Let's wait until our new OL alignment has had a few weeks together(with Pennington getting a few more starts) & wait until we have our #1 RB back in the game....& perhaps a game against a poorer D(mind you the Colts pass rush isn't much chop)....maybe the Jets game....or TEN. -

damned if Donahoe's screwups aren't
Dibs replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ooops....I stand corrected. -
True....or maybe it needs time to develop. In any case, that is the reason why somebody would want JP as their starter.
-
Wrong....he is definitely a bust. We've seen all we need already. Get rid of him now & put Nall in....or even Holcomb. They can't both be as bad as Loseman.
-
Because Holcombe is a vet nearing the end of his career with no realistic upside....basically what you see is at best what you'll get.....& you won't be getting it for too many more years. JP showed enough in a small school to be drafted in the 1st round. Coming out of college it was the general view that he was 'raw' & would probably need additional development time than normal(whatever that is). On top of that, he has seen multiple regime changes, was injured his entire first season so therefore that extra development time has been further hindered. But you knew all that didn't you HA.
-
He didn't play in that game....he plays for us, not the Dolphins. I took umbrage to you stating that Harrington has done better for the Dolphins this year than JP has done for us. He clearly hasn't & in that win(the only win he has) against the Bears....his stats were 32-16-137yards 50% completions.....4.3 YPA....3 TDs....2 INTs.....QBR 66.8 His 3 TDs came from drives of......3 plays, 6 yards.....3 plays, 12 yards.....& 1 play 24 yards.
-
His numbers were not good against GB last week....totally agree(apart from his turnover numbers). I was simply responding to your statement that his numbers are abysmal for a 3rd year player. If you mean in an individual game then I say "hang on, the best Qbs have abysmal individual games"....you meant for the season & I believe...all things considered his actual numbers this season(overall) are not abysmal....they are in fact in the 'average' bracket. His play leaves a lot to be desired but I'm afraid you cannot use the stats to back the point.
-
Are you nuts???? By what possible measuring stick do you figure that Harrington has done better than JP this year? Please enlighten everyone as to what it is that Harrington has done that out-does JP. QBR...JP Win/Loss...JP Turnovers....JP Sacks....Joey YPA.....JP Completion percentage.....JP TDs.....Joey And JP is 8th in the AFC. link

Proof that the OL makes the difference
Dibs replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NEs OL was on the improve having drafted Woody, Klemm & Light....& it was not considered good after Bledsoe at all....it was still considered 'not good'. Bledsoe got sacked 45 times in 2000, Brady got sacked 41 times in 2 less games in 2001. Chicago had a good line last year also.....they were 10th in sacks allowed(with Orton) & their running game was #8 in the league with the 7th best YPA. What are you talking about re: the Chiefs? Green was knocked out in the 1st game. Huard actually attempted more passes than him in that game.....I think you are making this up as you go along. On top of that the Chiefs interior of their OL is still A+ grade.....best in the league(?) The Jags??? Leftwich....9 sacks in 6 games. Garrard 3 sacks in 2 games. With Leftwich in the Jags had scores of 41 & 30....Taylor has been on fire the last 4 weeks(2 with Leftwich). Garrard, the OL & Taylor looked awesome against the 32nd ranked D last week. A top QB can make an OL look better than it is. IMO this is certainly a truth.....to a point. The examples you gave however....all of them.....do not support this theory. -

Cool....just add my point to yours then. -
I think the point is to get a QB who you will have in at least 3 years time, not some old guy who even if he will improve you today, will leave you no better off tomorrow.

He has a 61.3 completion percentage.....which shows that for the most of it he is getting the ball out there & connecting with his receivers. There is no doubt he holds onto the ball a bit too long & has caused a few more sacks than a more experienced QB would but.....his sack numbers are not all that higher than the so-called 'better' QBs who have better lines. If, as Bills fans, we accepted the concept at the start of the season that he would more than likely be learning this season, then we all should expect him to be doing things like that a bit. With a terrible line(so terrible they re-shuffled 3 players in it mid-season), his numbers....both passing(% completion, YPA, TDs, INTs...QBR) & sacks are not that bad. That being said, he obviously still has a long ways to go. I guess the response to this post will be typical....."JP will not be good because I know." -
Well said.....here is some more.... NAME / PCT / TD / INT Jim Kelly 59.5 / 15 / 17 Ben Roethilberger 64.1 / 14 / 28(approx. by doubling numbers of first eight games) Bart Starr 49.7 / 3 / 12 Y.A.Title 51.0 / 11 / 12 Bob Griese 48.0 / 10 / 16 Bobby Layne 45.2 / 16 / 18

Proof that the OL makes the difference
Dibs replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, Flutie & Bledsoe both made probowls with us. They certainly didn't suck in those two years. IMO the OL has been decent in times past.....2004 was not too bad at all. -
The initial line "London Fletcher-Baker now has more tds than Mcgahee" is a simple statement of fact.....impossible to argue against. If one were to discuss it one would be faced with two main choices. 1. Yes, I can see that he does indeed have more TDs than McGahee....this must mean McGahee is rubbish. 2. Yes, I can see that he does indeed have more TDs than McGahee....I wonder if it is a reflection on McGahee, the offence in general, or a combination of both....let's discuss. BTW, are you aware that Tiki Barber(League Leader) has only 1 TD(In basically 1 more game than WM)?
-
Which is why I even stated...."I'm not saying the 'numbers' make him good(they are just numbers)". What I was pointing out to you though was the QBR is a combination of all his numbers(except sacks). He is 18th in QBR.....20th in YPA.....14th in completion percentage. Your statement of him having "abysmal numbers" is not warranted. Sure he has had some bad games(in regards to the numbers), but so too has most QBs in the league. Overall, his numbers are comparable to a majority of his peers. I do not think he is playing as well as a majority of his peers.....but his numbers (for the most of it) do not reflect this. YPA is a better indicator of a QB than YPG. BTW, it is 3 games of 115 & under not 105. Vick....6 games of 163 & under Plummer 3 games of 138 & under McNair 4 games of 165 & under Pennington 2 games of 108 & under Smith 3 of 135 & under(4 under 165) Carr 2 of 128 & under Frye 3 of 149 & under

So, basically JP bailed out the defense today?
Dibs replied to IndyMark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oops....so would I.....I even had him listed as a success when I compiled a hit/miss list a few weeks ago. That skews the odds even more in favour of the BIG school QBs.
