Nothing is 'terrible' per-say.....if it's the #1 pick....or at worst the top 5. Drafting QBs outside the top 5 has knobs on it though. There is only a 15% success rate of QBs drafted in the 1st...outside of the top 5. I'm certain there is a much greater success rate for all other positions.....hell, only 1 in 3 QBs selected from 2-5 make the grade, let alone those after #5. I've said this many, many times now....& I guess I'll keep repeating myself in the future. Link to QB success rates BTW, Brees was a 2nd rounder.

I totally agree.....we should even draft a QB if JP plays awesome over the next 7 weeks & shows he is going to be good. I've mentioned before....the Patriots have drafted 3 QBs since Brady won his 1st superbowl....we have drafted 3 QBs in the last 20 years. It's no wonder we haven't 'lucked' onto one.....we don't look. To those wanting Schaub....what make people so certain he is going to be good? Rob Johnson.....now there's the answer.

I'm a bit surprised at the pole result. I'm in agreeance that WM is over-rated but that doesn't mean he is not any good.....just that the general concensus is that he is better than what actually is. GeneraLee has a great point about the line....those who think the WM won't explode with a top OL & passing game around him are deluded. I'm constantly amazed at the common(majority it seems) belief that a 1st round draft pick will select a probowl calibre player. Not might....or can....or has a better chance than a 2nd.....but WILL. Far more often than not it will not end up with a probowler & more often than not will not produce a player as good as WM.

If he became a Dolphins fan, the average intelligence of both fan basses would increase. Am I the only one who hears banjo music playing when reading a DeLuca post? -
Apparently we already know for sure.....which is such a shame since it means spending high draft picks and at least 3 more years to 'know for sure' if the next guy has 'it'. Unfortunately though, DJ & Co. are not acting like they already 'know for sure' & are obviously wasting valuable development time for the 5th year pro Nall.

I agree that OL jersey sales would be lower than other possitions but the reason why they(Bledsoe, Fletcher, Spikes) were some of the biggest sales was because they performed on the field before & after coming to Buffalo. DBs, RBs, WRs, DEs.... all would bring large number of jersey sales if they perform. IMO Ralph would be smart enough to realize that if he pays top dollar for a super OG, his RB jersey sales will increase....his QB & WR jersey sales will increase....& assuming it helps the team to win more games in a better offensive manner, every good player on the teams jersey sales will increase. -
Am I strange? I find any win we have as entertaining & every loss as a groan. I vote for a boring 52-0 win.

That's a load of rubbish.... The Defence(new coaches/new system/new players/rookie starters) is still doing heaps better. Overall up from 29th to 21st Rushing up from 31st to 20th Passing about the same up from 19th to 18th. This defence....when the youngsters mature & hopefully with McCargo coming on strong next year is on track to be good. When you consider that that is the area that was focused on last off-season(the 1st off season for this regime), I'd say they are showing signs of having things on track. Offence(in case you have not noticed) is being assessed weekly. 2 weeks ago we get an OL change....this week we get the reigns loosened on JP. I know you guys have your eyes open but since your heads are shoved so far up your asses as to block out all light I understand how everything seems so dark. -
It must be sad to have such conviction in your negativity.

Wasn't Spikes a big name expensive FA? Biggest that year(or pretty much). How about Milloy & Vincent? We were happy to pay Fletcher more than the Rams(& everyone else) at the time. I believe we might outbid everyone for the top FA OL. I certainly don't assume it is impossible....why would I? We got the best FA LB a few years back....why is it so different now? -
I'm not disagreeing with your point, just your usage of the Colts game(as the only loss) to help prove your point. The Colts are undefeated & clearly the gameplan employed was a great strategy against them. We kept the game close all the way through & had a chance near the end to win....sort of. Aside from that, what makes you think the lack of passing is a direct result of Losman & not a direct result of the OL & passing game in general? IMO we'll have a better indication very soon about how much is JPs fault & how much is the OL.....if JP can scramble out of trouble....avoid a sack or two....& complete a few more passes(making his % even higher)....our culprit will be clear. If not......well, you know.

How did we drop 6 places according to ESPN & CBS when we just got beaten by the only undefeated team in the league?

Thank you. Great work & great post. Imagine if you counted all the 1st & 2nd round busts in the last decade as well....whew, that would be an obscene amount of high drafting on a dime a dozen position.

Better than the injuries I've had due to him staying in the pocket. The number of bruises on my forehead from smashing it into the wall every time the pocket collapses & JP eats the dirt are too numerous to count.....along with several injuries of self-inflicted hair pulling. I think I'm going to be more injury free due to the change.....don't know about JP though.

How is he not already in there? What a joke.

I think you've generalized a little but the overall concept I agree with. It seems of late(last 10 years or so) CBs & WRs are possisions that teams seem to think can be easily replaced....compared to other possitions. Obviously the mentality is wrong since virtually every team that lets their star CB or WR go end up in trouble trying to find the replacement. Maybe Marv & Co. will think differently to the norm & be prepared to pay the required amounts to keep the players when their due for a new contract. I don't know if NC will be a good indicator unless he comes on really strong in the next 7 games. At least we've signed Schobel & Peters to extensions. I'd love Fletcher to be re- signed(this week) also.

If we are in the top 5 picks next year....
Dibs replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you are going to take a QB in the 1st.....top 5 is the place to do it. QBs taken after the top 5 spots tend to be as hit & miss as 2nd or 3rd rounders(more miss actually). If we are going to get an OT, I'd be very happy to stay wherever we are in the draft & get the best(available). Recent years have been the aberation with Gallery, Williams & Davis not panning out but history shows that if you want a HOF style OT, you pretty much have to select them very early in the first round. Going backwards through top 8 picks from 2000-93 #3 Samuels(2 probowls) #7 Turley #1 Pace(7 probowls) #6 Jones(5 probowls) #4 Ogden(9 probowls) #2 Boselli(5 probowls) #8 Roaf(11 probowls) Have there been any HOF type OTs in the last 15 years or so that were not at least drafted in the 1st....if not high in the 1st? -

*sigh* 6.66 YPA not too bad at all. Week 3 NYJ 38 attempts.....57.9 completion % Week 4 MIN 32 attempts.....71.9 completion % Week 6 DET 34 attempts.....61.8 completion % Yep, you're 100% correct. It's the WRs not getting open that is causing the sacks & is a huge problem.....not the abyssmal blocking....or the young QBs inexperience. -

Yes we've had some drops....& as I said, I was not saying we don't need improvement. What I was pointing out was that JP is completing a high % of his passes & mostly to the WRs. The fact that their numbers are not higher is due to the fact that we do not pass the ball much. SACKS! JP holds onto the ball too long because he is inexperienced....1.5 sacks a game. OL is terrible at pass protection....2.5 sacks a game. RB & TE whiffing blocks....1.5 sacks a game WRs do not get open(coverage sacks).....1.5 sacks a game(would have to be at least this to be described as a mess). That makes 8 sacks a game....or 63 sacks. Hang on....something must be wrong here....we only have 3.3 sacks a game(30). I am certain that the blocking has caused the most sacks. JP has contributed with some of his own. The stats DO NOT support the theory that the WRs are a "mess". The just don't.....the only way they can is(as I said before) if JP is actually doing a great job. I'm pretty sure he isn't....therefore....considering the terrible protection....the WRs are not a mess. -

I just don't see it. How many sacks have been legit coverage sacks? The pocket doesn't hold up long enough for them to become coverage sacks. JPs completion % is relatively high....that implies that either he is doing a magnificent job checking down & finding the (rare)open receiver....or it means that the WRs are actually getting open. JP is throwing for half to a third what the average is.....this means that the number of catches & yardage for the WRs is bound to be at least 1/2 of what it should be if we threw the ball a reasonable amount. The TEs are blocking ever pass play now aren't they? Hard to catch a ball when you are trying to block a probowl DE. I'm not saying we cannot improve with the WRs(TEs)....I'm pointing out that calling them a mess is simply misguided. -
Just explain to her that you "don't buckle to peer group pressure. You are an individual & if all those schmucks have a problem with which team you follow....it's their problem, not yours." Also, NEVER rub it in if we beat the Jets.....& always concede that it was a fair win when we get beaten by the Jets(regardless of truth). There is a great chance that you won't be with your girl your whole life & she will disappoint you at some stage......the Bills however can disappoint you year after year after year......sigh.

I'm not too sure I get the humour either.....& I'm a funny guy.....well I am....honest. Does the humour derive from the "come out" bit....you know....as in gay, coming out? Is it a vague masturbatory allusion about tossing under a bus? Actually, I think the funniest aspect to this is that somebody(who wasn't Deluca) is so impressed with his posts that he starts a thread referring to one. Now that is funny.
