I guess the lesson from not selling out is
Dibs replied to jimmy_from_north_buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How much is due to the holiday weekend thing? Honestly, who couldn't get excited after last weeks performance? It's seems strangely timed to me. -
To the uneducated in the ways of Bills-speak......that would sound really nasty.

I always shave down here. I've never left the country as an adult so I guess I don't have a choice. What a silly question.

I hope Romo is a bust.........I hate the Cowboys & it is waaaaaaay to soon for them to have another good QB. That said.........what are you smoking???? The 3 you compare him to...... Norm Van Brocklin is a HOF & one of the greatest ever to play the game. Warner is a 2 times MVP & superbowl player.....still possible HOF Cuozzo was a backup. Even if you take the average you end up with a very good QB.

I don't think it wrong for anyone to dislike Manning because of this one incident. That is anybody's right to do so. This shouldn't reflect on his ability as an NFL QB at all though. They are two totally different arguments. "How good an NFL QB is he?" and "Should he be liked & admired?" IMO one moronic incident is not necessarily indicative of a persons normal(99.999%) behaviour.....nor, when it is conducted by somebody who is young, particularly in an environment where it is generally more acceptable to be moronic, do I think that the offender will stay the same as he matures. I remember several times as a youngster(16-23) doing things which(had I been caught) could have seriously affected peoples perceptions of me. Like I said, call Manning a POS if you like.......just remember about the whole casting the first stone thingy.
-
This is certainly a decent reason to not like him. The reasons cited at the start of the thread though were not reasons at all.....simply poorly veiled excuses.
-
You're knocking a guy because he had a good upbringing? How does how he became great affect his being great????? I don't get it(your first point)....if you don't like him you should be happy that he hasn't been able to win in big games.....it's certainly no reason to hate the guy.....the only way you'd be angry at him for this is if you were a colts fan or a P.Manning fan since he would disappoint by losing the big games.....thus leading to resentment. There a numerous reasons to like & respect Manning. Great ability, work ethic, football brain....etc. There really isn't much about him to cause great antipathy. I think you simply don't like him because you don't like him. That's all well & good.....I don't care whether you do or don't.....don't try & justify your 'can't stand him' attitude for the guy with feeble argument though......either accept you have an unjustified dislike for somebody you've probably never met.....or stop disliking him.

Nope......Bills vs 49ers. Take it to the bank.

I awoke this morning thinking....."2 minute come from behind victory!!!!"......"265 yards!!!!" I'm still EXTATIC!!!!! .....& happy too.

I totally agree....which is why I believe QB assessment time should be based on each individual QB & their situation & not their draft position. Look at JP for instance(& there would be many gone through similar....Rogers for one). Selected later in the 1st by a team on decline. By the time he took the field we were a bottom 10 team. The other way around works as well....Manning had many offensive pieces put into place(RB, WR, OL) before being selected #1.....his job was much easier. I think the rule of picked early therefore really bad team is not so relevant anymore. Sometimes yes....sometimes no. Teams turn around very, very quickly. 49ers are 5 wins, 5 losses. Alex Smith now has a potential decent OL, Star RB & star TE(with a good one there as well).....if Davis lives to potential & their WRs improve....BANG....Smith is in a great position to succeed within 3 years of being drafted.

Your theory on Marv/DJ re: DBs might well be correct. Going on about it won't prove it though....only time will show whether your feeling is correct or not. What is your assessment of Peters though?(stick with me, that Q becomes important).....Last draft focused on the D. This was expected IMO for 3 reasons. 1. Marv believes in building the D first(for various reasons)....& has stated so many times. 2. We were near last in the league last year in D. 3. The skills positions were relatively set(having used so many 1sts & 2nds recently) & the OL was in flux due to the unknown aspect of Peters. Basically, Peters surely was being looked at as a potential LT. That being the case, selecting either OT position high in the draft would have been premature....they grabbed a few later round OTs.....BTW, how is Pennington doing after 3 starts? Does he look like he might make it?(serious Q...I don't know). That leaves the interior of the OL. As you have stated.....& many teams have shown, it is much easier picking up a decent OG or C in the draft using 1st day picks than it is getting a top LT. That means that waiting for next draft/FA period is not setting the team back at all. If we can get a good OG &/or C in the 2nd(or 3rd) next draft......it's possible that by mid-season the OL firms into a decent unit.....certainly the following season. It all hinged(hinges) on Peters.....& decent player selection with the draft picks. I think the plan they have gone with is starting to show some fruit. Young players are developing & their draft picks are showing to be overall good selections. If McCargo can fill the hole next season, & we obtain 2 interior OLmen, we could be quickly competitive IMO. Remember......before the animal rights guys moved in.....there was more than one way to skin a cat. GO BILLS!!!!!

Tough guy? I called you a poopy-head. They mustn't breed them very tough were you come from.

Um....yeah....OK. I'm not too sure what you mean there.....is it.... The defense needs to him this weekend! or maybe..... The defense needs to him this weekend! it's not..... The defense needs to him this weekend! Just kidding with you.....I agree....we can't afford to let ourselves be killed by more than 1 Williams in a season.

*sigh* OK I'll spell it out to you.....interpret it for you. "I Just Watched the Game Again...." ....and it was such a long time coming....years of anxiously waiting for a legitimate reason for hope.....and the game was such a record-breaking, classic finishing excitingly fun ride that I do believe I'll enjoy looping it & watching it over & over & over......etc. I thought it was obvious cåblelady meant all those things & probably many, many more. If you don't like the way someone communicates....especially when it is in good humour.....try just ignoring it rather than being a poopy-head & having a whinge. Are you married Max? I see many arguments in your household with the "how about making a point" attitude you have.

Dunta Robinson post game quote
Dibs replied to MartyBall4Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've seen heaps of your posts BJumper & this thread is the first where I've thought....literally.....what a prat. "...I hope he doesn't feel too good, because we just shot ourselves in the foot." Robinson is wrong.....on two issues. Firstly, to say we shot ourselves in the foot implies that the last drive was in some way successful due to mistakes made by HOU. It's the sort of thing that makes sense to say if it was 4th & 4 & somebody jumps offside to continue the drive.....or if a very easy INT(or 2) were dropped.....or there was some sort of obvious mix-up in the secondary allowing the TD. Plain & simple, we(led by JP) drove down the field & scored the game winning TD against the Texans....who tried their best......didn't stuff up.....but failed. Secondly, to stipulate that you hope the oppositions hero of the hour does not feel good not only shows incredibly bad sportsmanship(which I consider wrong) but punctuates the first point even more. Since HOU did not 'stuff-up', he may as well be saying....."but we're so crap, JP shouldn't feel good about beating us in the last 90 seconds." Sure you don't expect it to happen from JP.....that doesn't excuse your own inability to stop him fairly. I'll say again.....& proudly......Bungee Jumper.....you are being ridiculous & are a complete prat. I think you achieved what you wanted though didn't you. -
Promise to Nate Clements not to be tagged again
Dibs replied to TDRupp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From all I've read, if that became the case, Marv would walk. Also, from what he has stated about RW & his relationship with the team management.....RW wouldn't force the issue anyway. -
Welcome to the wall....& good post. I disagree about the most talented. 2004 was a pretty decent line. I feel it is too early to be conclusive on how the line will pan out. I agree that there is a lot of 'potential' in it.....but there are far too many 'maybes' to call it anywhere near where you are putting it. Peters.....can he keep developing at LT....or will he have to be moved back to RT? Gandy......looks better at LG than LT but can he produce at a consistent level in short yardage & pass protection? Fowler.....can he improve & stabilize or is he a short term answer.....we simply cannot get push up the middle. Preston.....promising youngster....again, can he improve to the required level? Pennington.....7th round pick who has struggled mightily in his first 3 starts.....another one who shows promise but.....can he improve? I'd love it if all the players reached their potential & gelled as a unit....I feel however that this is an unrealistic expectation. I'll be very happy if Peters & one other show themselves by end of year to be locks at their positions.....ecstatic if we achieve 3 locks. I still expect in virtually all circumstances that we will acquire a 'name' OG in FA or we will draft 2 interior linemen on the first day(this assumes that Peters pans out). Re: JP......I can't really talk coherently about him this week.....I'm still giddy with excitement over how he performed. Hopefully we see some more of the same next week.

Promise to Nate Clements not to be tagged again
Dibs replied to TDRupp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you sure about that? Usually nowadays they have it written into the 1 year franchise contract that they cannot be tagged again next season. I was under the impression that this was the case with NC. -
The point is obvious......I feel sorry for you that you cannot see it.

Ok Armchair coaches..... What do you do..
Dibs replied to AnthonyF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hell yeah! -
To me this shows how much the 'good soldier' JP has been this season.....forcing himself to stay in the pocket, go through the check downs, eat the sack instead of taking off(or even moving around a little).......he obviously wanted to play his more natural game but has done exactly what he was told....."stay in the pocket" This has lead to obviously extra criticism but he has maintained discipline rigorously game after game. Perhaps if Vick had rigorously adhered to the coaches words to him in the past of "stay in the pocket", he might be a more consistent passer today. Kudos to JP for taking the lumps needed to help him learn.

Actually.....defense can be spelt either way.....& typically defence in the country that invented the language. -
Knee Injury.

Good point. Since the break we are 2 wins, 1 loss. As somebody said in a different thread...."QB rating does not get you to the playoffs." Neither does losing pretty. The fact we looked terrible against GB is irrelevant.....we still won. The D collapsed all first half against HOU.....big deal, it turned up in the second half & we won. If we can build on things now, we could be looking good next season. Fingers crossed....some more solid football to come.
