I haven't the time now to check the bust rate of 2nd/3rd round C(or OGs for that matter, which I want to do also) but personally I'm with you on this one. The bust rate for 1st round interior OLmen is non existent. They always pan out to be solid starters if not very good or better. IMO.....even though they are not generally considered to be as important as many other positions(whether that is a truism or not it appears to be the thoughts of all NFL teams), the non-bust aspect should surely see their draft worth increase. I have no problem with 'reaching' in the 1st round for an interior OLman.

Sorry.....maybe I was a bit overly aggressive there..... It does seem to me though that you(and many others) are veering towards negatively viewing things rather than seeing the legitimate situation. The garbage that you saw was IMO mainly caused by the garbage play from our QB. The OL did a very good job.....Lynch was fantastic, Jackson very good. The D(particularly considering injuries) did a great job. Returns were back to awesome......and coverage was good too. I know it was 'just the Browns' but apart from QB, our team played bloody good. -
Someone please make a play

How many game changing big plays do you want in a game? The answer is at least one more than is needed. We had one less than was needed......this does not mean that there were no game changing big plays to be had.....just that there were not enough. -

Maybe you should remove your sh-- coloured glasses instead. He was discussing a nucleus of young players for the most of it. He could have added the names Peters, Whitner and Greer to the list. You may not like it to be the case but we actually do have a very large amount of young talent on the roster that could see us in very, very good stead in the near future. -
I think this is probably the way things will go.......though not due to talent level of McGee/Greer. As others have pointed out, Greer will be cheaper in the long run......he is younger......and we now have McK for kick returns. We also have McGee for an extra year in which to find out if McK is going to pan out at CB. If we re-sign Greer(which should be a reasonably priced contract)......and McK pans out......then next season we will have 3 starter quality CBs and can afford to let McGee go the following year. If McK does not pan out then we can re-sign McGee(though this will probably be expensive).

It's not due to the bust rate......the bust rate for 1st round C is extremely low. There are very few C drafted in the first round.....only 4 over the last 15 years. 1999: Damien Woody- Made a probowl.....was moved to OG & has started all 10 games for the Jets this season. 2003: Jeff Faine - Regular starter 2005: Chris Spencer - Regular starter 2006: Nick Mangold - Regular starter

To My Grave I Will Say Reason We Lost The Game Was .....
Dibs replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Though I totally agree.....absolutely.....that the play calling at the end of the game was abysmal & most likely cost us the game, the reality also is that if TE had played at a level anywhere near what he did earlier in the season then we would never have been in that position. We would most likely IMO have dominated CLE. -
Folks blaming Jauron are way off the mark

If TE had played anywhere near the level he did earlier in the season then I believe we would have beaten the Browns by a large margin. Even with all of our key injuries the team as a whole played a very good game. IMO we certainly have the talent to be a solid playoff team(depending on QB) but obviously need personnel improvements to get to the next level. The thing is though......TE didn't play anywhere near his playing level from earlier in the season......and this then exposed DJs BIG weakness as a HC. -
Is it not possible that he has the equivalent to a golfers/tennis players 'yips'? That there is no physical problem as you are saying but in fact a mental one where the pressure/stress/fear is affecting how he sees the field of play?
-
......but not letting him pass the ball in those final 3 plays defeated the benefits of keeping him in. You leave him in for reasons of confidence. Let him hopefully work through his mental issues on the field & get out the other side......also pulling him could exacerbate his lack of confidence. With what the coaches did at the end......they may as well have pulled him half way through the 3rd.
-
If the coaches had so little faith in him to do his job then they should have benched him earlier in the game.......not left him in there so we would be essentially optionless trying to come from behind in the 4th.
-
Totally different.......on multiple levels.

Is Jauron the worst head coach in the league?
Dibs replied to KD in CA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was scratching my head at that one too. Maybe it was 'tricky' when first called......but to come out after a timeout & try it again? Baffling. -
You sound very certain(which it is not possible to be). TE may never get out of his malaise......and honestly, I have been right behind DJ till what I saw at the end of tonights game. I'm starting to think that perhaps he won't be the answer. If either of these things happen it's back to the drawing board for at least 2 more years.
-
I think Bluefire, that the point is that if the coaching is irreparable.......or the QB is irreparable......then the 'growing pains' are no longer 'growing pains' but are in fact 'back to the drawing board pains'.

How does that relate to the decisions made at the end of the game? TE had a horrendous game. DJ made some horrendous decisions at the end of the game. These two things are not mutually exclusive......they can both happen in the one game. -
Unfortunately Trent sh-- the bed for most of the game. 'Paralyzed by fear' is an expression that comes to mind. If he can't work through the yips that he has then the 'Growing Pains' are going to be a lot longer than you seem to anticipate.
-
I would be......and I'm sure every Bills fan who was watching 3 runs in a row from that position would be complaining also. It was an unfathomable move regardless of the win/loss.
-
I disagree. Edwards obviously has the yips & has lost all his confidence. He finally completes a pass down the middle & has shown in the past that he is better under pressure in the 4th. Letting him pass the ball had the potential for him to regain confidence.......and if he throws an INT showing that he is still debilitated as a productive QB he could unequivocally been benched for a week or two to give him some respite from the pressure.

Summary of the Bills method to the Titans method since 2000....1st round only DBs in Red DL in bold Bills: 4, 8, 11, 12, 13, 21, 23, 23, 26, 26 Titans: 3, 6, 15, 19, 24, 28, 30 The Bills method selects DBs 30% of the time it gets a 1st round pick......and selects DL 20% of the time. The Titans method selects DBs 43% of the time it gets a 1st round pick......and selects DL 14% of the time. I'll say it again.......drafting is only a tiny part of the equation in building a team.
-
If we want to compare the two teams(1st 3 rounds) since 2000......I think we'll find that(as I say all the time), it is far more important to succeed with your draft pick rather than draft at a particular position.......if one fails at drafting position 'X' then obviously more draft equity will be spent on that position over time than if one succeeds. Number of Bills picks: 1st=10, 2nd=9, 3rd=10 Number of Titans picks: 1st=7, 2nd=10, 3rd=11 DB Bills: 8, 11, 21, 58, 70, 97 Titans: 6, 19, 28, 45, 60, 92, 102 DL Bills: 26, 26, 46, 48, 61, 72, 74, 76 Titans: 15, 42, 54, 57, 71, 93 OL Bills: 4, 95 Titans: 41 Skills(QB,RB,WR,TE) Bills: 12, 13, 22, 23, 36, 41, 55, 58, 86, 92 Titans: 3, 24, 40, 45, 50, 60, 68, 68, 80, 85, 90, 93, 96 LB Bills: 34, 89, 94 Titans: 30, 77 Overall I'd say the two teams have drafted fairly comparably since 2000.
-
I agree........but just for those who keep shouting "The only way to build the trenches is in the 1st round of the draft"...... Titans 1st round picks since 2000 2008 RB Chris Johnson(24) 2007 DB Michael Griffin(19) 2006 QB Vince Young(3) 2005 DB Pacman Jones(6) 2003 DB Andre Woolfolk(28) 2002 DT Albert Haynesworth(15) 2000 LB Keith Bulluck(30)
-
So when do we change the team name to 'The Buffalo Giants(NY)'?

So your point is.......you have concerns about McK. That IMO is totally fair enough, but isn't the point that was made in the thread opener.
