  1. A gay spammer who has a female friend who is willing to not only call him every night but talk with him all through the night due to her pretending to have insomnia? Those wacky gay youngsters.....what will they be doing next?
  2. I don't know why....but the media seems quite interested in the love lives of people they talk to.
  3. Does anybody know if his "girlfriend" was public knowledge before she died? Seems to me that if the first we hear about her publicly is when she dies(September 2012) then the timing is pretty beneficial to Te'o.
  4. Is there any reason to bring his religious beliefs into it?
  5. I've noticed a lot of posters are saying "8 year starter". 1013 will be Rodgers' 9th year, Roethlisberger's, Rivers', Eli's and Schaub's 10th, Brees'13th, Brady's 14th and Manning's 16th. If you beat the odds and find your Franchise QB, you want him for a fair bit more than 8 years IMO.
  6. I find it sad and depressing . For a long time now the media seems more interested in selling a story rather than reporting the news. Ironically they are merely catering to their market IMO.
  7. ....and he never thought to correct them? If this is true it is a very bad reflection on him either way.
  8. Proverbs. "Which proverb is the better analogy?" works fine.
  9. A hand in the bush is worth two birds?
  10. I understand that the new defensive system may place a higher importance on having good CBs but.....didn't we endeavour to replace McKelvin not only last draft with the #10 pick(Gilmore) but also in the previous one with the #34 pick(Williams)? Seems to me that the plan has been to assume that McKelvin was not going to improve to be the #1 CB by end of his contract and try and replace him prior to him leaving. Unless we are going to be after two first class CBs.....or we believe that Gilmore(& Williams) will not be able to perform as a desired #1 CB....I see no reason why we would be drafting Milliner(apart from that we regularly draft a CB in the 1st). I personally would have no problem with him being paid as a mid priced #2 CB(though I don't know what figure that would entail).
  11. Yeah they do. I'm in Australia....I have 3 friends who are big into football....Rams, 49ers & Saints fans. All of us hate the Patriots.....hate Billecheat....and by association hate Brady. It seems to me that football fans who value the concepts of integrity and honour, particularly how it applies to sports of any level, will never forgot that disgraceful situation.
  12. Actually....no it wasn't. I'm embarrassed to say that I neglected something very important in the figuring. (Lesson learned....don't post after being up for 34 hours). What I neglected was to remove the non-pro bowl #1 QBs & the non-pro bowl #2-#4 QBs from the base pools. It changes the odds from 1 in 7 to 1 in 5. The numbers should be as follows.... Using years 2001-2010.... 27 QBs were selected. 9 made pro bowls 33% (1 in 3) 8 of the 27 QBs were #1 picks. 3 of the 9 QBs selected who made pro bowls were #1 picks. Therefore the results for non #1 QBs are.... 6 out of 19 31.6% (1 in 3.2) 4 of the 19 remaining QBs were selected between #2 & #4 3 of the 6 QB selected who made pro bowls that weren't #1 picks were selected between #2 & #4 Therefore the results for non Top 4 QBs are... 3 out of 15 20% or 1 in 5 chance. The chance of us getting pro bowl production from our 1st round QB selection is 1 in 5.....and much worse as you go into rounds 2, 3 etc. The reality is that it takes on average selecting 5 1st round QBs to find a pro bowler unless you have a top 4 selection. Apologies to the board for my stupidity.
  13. I did a study of this several years back and I'm fairly certain that QB was one of the positions that had slightly lower percentage hits than the average. That said, from memory the differences were not great....but still smaller. The only one that truly stood out was interior OL which had quite a higher percent hit rate than other positions. I plan on doing another study of this sort of thing after the draft(when there's no football news).....so stay tuned to TSW.
  14. Statistics.....love em. Using years 2001-2010.... 27 QBs were selected. 9 made pro bowls 33% Sounds good!!! (Ignoring that one of those was Vince Young....and another was Jay Cutler....both being players that many would say are not gonna be "the guy") But wait.... 3 of the 9 QBs selected who made pro bowls were #1 picks. Therefore the results for non #1 QBs are.... 6 out of 24 25% Sounds fine!!! But wait again.... 3 of the 6 QB selected who made pro bowls that weren't #1 picks were selected between #2 & #4 Therefore the results for non Top 4 QBs are... 3 out of 21 14% or 1 in 7 chance. Sounds crap!!! The chance of us getting pro bowl production from our 1st round QB selection is 1 in 7.....and much worse as you go into rounds 2, 3 etc. The reality is that it takes on average selecting 7 1st round QBs to find a pro bowler unless you have a top 4/5 selection. As for your 77.7% become 3+ year starters.....of course they do, for several obvious reasons that I can't be bothered to spell out. Btw....it's a crapshoot with virtually every position except for perhaps interior offensive linemen.
  15. Whether intended or not, this is quite a loaded question. Instead of being a fan looking in, be the GM of the team. You have a QB prospect who you "know" will be your Franchise QB. For whatever the reasons, the media talent evaluators do not rate him as highly as you have. Do you care what the media talent evaluators think? No you don't. An underling says to you "We could trade down and get him later in the 1st round." You respond "How highly do the Jets rate him?" Underling "I don't know." Is it worth the risk trading down and missing out on a player you "know" is going to be great? Obviously it isn't.
  16. I'm looking forward to the time when the USC QB is named Mike Williams. Obviously it will cancel out and he will be a champion.
  17. ....and what about college coaches that had 3 years OC experience in the NFL prior to becoming a college HC?
  18. Wow....love that site. Wish we had one like that(all the other stuff) for the Bills.
  19. I'm actually a little confused. Apart from mild curiosity, does anybody really care how a majority of fans who happened to be frequenting TSW felt in 2001 when Greg Williams became HC or in 2006 with DJ? This is more than a little silly.
  20. I won't go into my thoughts on it.....suffice to say that many many people enjoyed it which means that is was a success....and I don't mean a success in monetary terms(which it was), I mean a success in that it achieved what I believe all movies should strive to achieve......entertainment of some form for the paying viewer.
  21. Somebody should take note of this thread and catalog the fan sentiment in it.
  22. It seems that every time I do a google search for something football related, the bleacher report shows on 90% of the links. I personally find it is fluffy pulp & it is driving me crazy having to go to page 2 or 3 on my google search to find the information I'm after. Is the bleacher report that popular....or do they have a trick they use to get so many google results?
  23. Really? That was not a good movie. Maybe for cinematography or costumes....
  24. Abuse? I came to this thread for an argument.
