  1. The late round pick from last year that got all the buzz was Levi Brown.
  2. I'm surely pulling for this young man. I think his pick in the seventh round was great. I'm all for taking freaks of nature very late in the draft. I would have to say the odds are against him though. Has anyone seen any video or heard anything about him playing football? I've obviously read about his athletic abilities and watched his video at the gym but I've really not heard anything about his playing abilities. I'm not knocking the pick, just wondering. I am all for projects like him in the seventh round.
  3. It's cool, but what the heck are you posting this during the draft? Do you channel surf during the Super Bowl?
  4. There was no free agent signing period before the lockout. I'm not sure what you are talking about here.
  5. I disliked anyone I played against when I played sports. At least during the game itself. I never played dirty or wished for them to get injured, but they were my enemy during the match. I coach my teenage son's soccer and he has friends from opposing teams. He will chat with them during the game. I tell him for 60 minutes he's not your friend. Sometimes we will have his friend come over after the game and there is no hard feelings either way. I respect what Brady has done and I still hate him. When he won the first SB I didn't think he was the most gifted QB in the league. He has only gotten better since, much like Big Ben I think the best athletes at any level play with emotion and with an edge. Brady is no exception. To continue my off topic rambling I have this story to offer. Right after the Giants won their last SB I had the pleasure of meeting Usi something, DL. He had his giant SB ring on. I told him I was so excited that they won the SB. He asked if I was a Giants fan. I told him no I just hate the Patriots. He said we all hate the f-ing Patriots. I think as a fan of the Bills you should not like Brady. You do have to admit that he is a great QB though, maybe not out loud though. I have a question to ask everyone. Would you trade all this year's draft picks for Brady? It kills me to say it, but I would.
  6. I think he is a good receiver, but if my memory serves my correctly, he dropped 5 in that game. He needs to clean that up to become a top 10 receiver IMHO.
  7. I like the move of hiring Dave W. and not firing Edwards. But I must respectfully disagree with the comment that you can't put that on Edwards. He is the defensive coordinator. The defense was terrible. Granted he didn't have a lot of talent. He showed no creativity at all with the talent he had.
  8. I agree with your post up until you had mentioned that it would be better to have the 9th pick. That is if I read it correctly. If a trade down is possible then I'm in favor of having a pick later in the first round. I wish the Bills were better and we weren't picking at number 3 but they are not very good. The odds of them picking a blue chip player are much higher with the 3rd pick versus the 9th pick. I'm assuming you are saying that because there are so many choices at number 3 and it makes it hard as a fan to narrow down who they'll pick. I'm sure it had nothing to do with money since the Bills haven't been close to the salary cap for many years.
  9. I don't see much difference between that and the fieldhouse. Just kidding, what a recruiting tool that facility will be.
  10. I spent a year in Iraq with the military recently. I worked with many Tongan Marines. I would meet them for runs or workouts in the gym. I'm in decent shape and those guys are another level. When we would eat dinner you would look at their plates and they were piled with meat. I would joke with them and ask them if the small Tongans were back home, and they would say there all no small Tongans. I would say how can I get as big as you and they would point to the huge plate of meat. They are naturally big boned, muscular people. Everyone I met from that country, which is in the 100's, were the nicest people you'll ever meet. I have encountered the same thing with Samoans, on a smaller scale, just because I've met fewer. I've worked closely with many different people from all over the world and they seem to be some of the hardest working, honest, professional people. I think if the guy shows he has the talent though your scouting of him, you have a good shot he will do well and not get fat and lazy once he gets that big contract. I won't say that about some other people I've met from other countries. Just my experience.
  11. I guess I stand corrected on them drafting Wr's and Rb's early. My original point is they seem to put an emphasis on strong line play on both sides of the ball, great TE's and stick to that plan. How Brady started his playing career with the Bledsoe injury was also luck of the straw. If they didn't have strong lines they wouldn't pick the more skilled postions like we have for the past decade. Having said all that I have hope that Nix and Co. will turn this ship around. I'm hoping the majority of our draft picks from last year continue to develop and they have a strong draft this year. This draft should have the biggest impact we've had in years with very early picks in each round. While this draft is not the final step it will show if the "new" front office has the ability to turn this thing around.
  12. I'm don't want to appear that I am defending the Patriots, I hate them. I'm saying they have a plan and it seems to be working. They are the model NFL team of the decade as much as I hate to say it. They key on certain postions and ensure they have great players in those postions. They have missed on many draft picks like every other team in the NFL. Maroney was picked later in the first round(21, I think) and didn't pan out. Chad Jackson same thing in the second round. The difference is they already had an all world QB, strong lines and good LB's. It seems simple as long as you can hit on some of your draft picks. Don't draft Rb's,CB',Wr's early in the draft until you can run the ball, stop the run, and have a very good QB. It also helps if you have few holes to fill and a butt load of draft picks.
  13. I would get in my time machine and go back and draft him in the 5th round. I'm not sure what you are asking. Get a better scouting department? With all the picks we have wasted on CB's, Safety, RB's and terrible DL in the first round I would have taken more than 1 shot at a QB in the first round since Jim Kelly left. Keeping a franchise QB is not a problem. You pay him what he wants and lock him in to a long term contract. Brady was a fluke. I would venture to say another QB taken in the 6th round will not come close to his level in my lifetime and I'm not 40 yet. But I don't think you will find him in the 2nd and 3rd rounds where the Bills have been looking. I don't want them to reach but make an effort to bring in a franchise QB. Good QB's go early every year. It's funny how that works. I would rather they had wasted several first round picks looking for that guy than the wasted picks on less important postions. I think if you put 10 other Qb's, currently playing in the NFL, on that team they would be almost as successful. I wouldn't draft the sexiest pick in early rounds. While I like Spiller and think he will turn out to be a good hybrid RB for our team. There were players available that would make this team better all around.
  14. How do they Patriots remain so good. With the draft picks they have piled up they will be good for years to come. Having Brady on your team doesn't hurt. But they still won some games with an average at best QB in Cassell. They don't waste high draft picks on RB's and WR's. They put an emphasis on key positions and fill in the rest with average players. Having a strong defensive line especially in the middle and strong LB's makes a defense work well. When your top CB wants to walk to make big money you let him go or trade him for some value and replace him with a draft choice. They draft very good tight ends. The top WR's in the game can be covered by the top CB's and sometimes taken out of the game. Great TE's are a mismatch for a good safety or LB. They automatically are a mismatch and they take advantage of that. On offense they put an emphasis on a strong OL while not spending a lot of time going after high profile RB's and WR's, minus the Moss trade. They also have a great QB to run the offense. The thing they do with their veterans is probably one of the main reasons they remain one of the top teams. They trade players as they age, while they still have value. In doing this they replace a high salary with a younger high draft pick and keep on going and not missing much in the process. They play them and let them take their lumps. The days of allowing a player to sit and develop are gone with the modern day NFL. You must have blue chip players in key areas and then you just need to fill in the other areas with average, smart players that buy in to your system. I believe that the modern NFL, since salary cap and free agency, the teams are watered down. If you just go back to the Bills glory days and look at both sides of the football and how many players they already have in the HOF. The Cowboys, Bills, Niners, Packers and some other teams of the early 90's would destroy the best teams today in my opinion, taking out advances in medicine and sports nutrition. The point I'm trying to make is that the Bills should be focusing on a few key areas in the next 2-3 drafts to be a great team in the modern day NFL. You will never have great players in every position. Don't waste draft picks on positions that are less important. 1. QB is the most important position in football. Makes the whole team better. 2. Great OL makes everyone on the offense better: QB, WR, RB. 3. Great TE's give a great outlet and are mismatches for defenses no matter what style you run. 4. Great DL (see above on OL): CB, Safety, LB. 5. Good LB's benefit from a great DL and are free to do their thing and fly around and show why they are the best athletes in the NFL. I don't watch enough college football to even act like I'm an expert. I can't take both Saturday and Sunday off with kids to watch football. I know if AJ Green is to fall to 3, I don't want the Bills to waste a pick on him. He is a game changer, from what I've seen, but I want a player that is worthy of the pick that will make everyone else around him better. In my opinion a player like that is someone you grab when you have a strong DL and OL already in place. It's like installing a beautiful front door on a house before building the foundation or framework.
  15. That degree that he is going back for could possibly cost him millions of dollars. I'm not saying it will, but it is very risky going back another year when you are the number 1 pick and have a new coaching staff coming in. I wish him Luck, but if that's my son and he asks my opinion I tell him to come out and finish school in the off season. Hell hire a staff of tutors to follow you around the country to finish your degree. Like I said it's his choice and I hope it all works well for him.
  16. I don't belive Fitz is the second coming of Joe Montana, but he did a serviceable job this year. I would love it if the Bills had a sure thing QB sitting on the bench getting ready to start his long HOF career. They don't have that person yet. I do believe if you are drafting at 3 you better grab a sure thing blue chip player. I don't want a reach, project, questionable character type player. My point for this reply was, that you say you didn't start this thread to bash him, and yet you talk about Int's that didn't happen due to penalties, or drops. I'm pretty sure other Qb's had the same thing happen. You take all the stats and list them as they are the only truth. At that point the one stat that you want to elaborate on is the one that would have him throw more int's. Be honest. It's like Fox News saying they don't lean to the right or CNN saying they don't lean to the left. My gut instinct is that he will not be a consistent top 10 Qb in the league. I also think he can get you deep if you have good players around him(see Sanchez). If a Qb is there at some point and is higher on your draft board then another position then take him. He is a Qb that will fill the role until we find the real one.
  17. I have heard on more then one occasion that DE's in the 3-4 defense are supposed take up blockers and not get many sacks. The leading sacker in NFL history played in this defense.
  18. Because you have to get worse before you get better, right? I really want to believe that there is a master plan going on here. So far the starting RB and QB are gone off the team. Has that ever happened before in the NFL by week 4 or any week for that matter? I'm not bitching about these moves, just the timing of them. Nix says they are building the team through the draft, which makes sense. The problem I have is that rounds 2 though 7 aren't playing. I understand the later rounds not seeing the field right away or at all, I just wonder if the earlier picks suck that bad right now. I don't think you take projects in rounds 1-4. I know they have played just 4 games against some stiff competition. I have always thought the Bills would get better. I have to be honest and say that I really don't know if they will get better. We are building though the draft, yet our draft picks aren't playing. I really don't know what direction they are going in. The defense was terrible against the run last year. Get a couple of big guys in the middle of the line and hope to make the defense decent. I'm all for the purging of dead weight on the team. I just think that cutting the dead weight sitting on the bench versus guys you have starting would make the team better quicker. There is no overnight solution to the Bills problems. Having said that I don't think it has to take forever to make it the right way. I really thought the Bills were 5-7 players away from being a decent team. Now I think they are 15-17 players away and all they have to show for it is a 4th and conditional 5th or 6th. This is my first negative post towards the team. I just don't feel very optimisitc right now. Please explain to me how this team is getting better through the draft when we aren't playing the players we drafted. We started Edwards and Lynch to either see what they have or to showcase them. We switched to a 3-4 defense, but we can't play our rookies, because they aren't ready. To me the majority of the team is not ready. I guess if they were playing at least a couple of the rookies and they showed a few good moments I would be more optimisitc.
  19. 1/2 a yard better average is quite a bit for a running back. I'm not saying I'm in favor of the trade, but 4.5 yards a carry is impressive with the offense we have. What concerns me is that if Jackson is so much better why do you start Lynch over him. If all you are trying to do is showcase him to other teams then shame on them. I want them to try to win football games. I have a question. I had military duties this weekend and don't want to watch the debacle that I dvr'd. I can't bring myself to do it. Did any of our rookies rounds 2-7 play anymore then they have? What are they waiting for if not? I have to believe that the Bills fornt office knows they are not competitive this year. Why not play the rookie more to give them some valuable playing time?
  20. I have read this statement about 20 times. I was under the impression that his contract was though next year.
  21. Did I miss something here? Did the Jets have a short week and play the Bills on Sunday and the Dolphins on Monday? I guess Sunday was just a walk though for the Jets. They hardly broke a sweat.
  22. I'm not sure we could get anything as valuable for him in the 4th round.
  23. Just think if you had each jersey for all the starting QB's since Kelly left and you could clothe a small village.
  24. While I think this is a great topic for discussion. Haven't we talked about over and over. Why do you have to start another thread?
  25. We were spoiled with Van Miller. He was a big part of the Bills history and great Super Bowl, well AFC Champion, runs. I did move back to Buffalo area for work during his later years and realized he started to lose it. When I hear his old sound bites it brings me back to the glory days.
