Are the Bills committed to Ed Oliver in 2023?
damj replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's the money though. I think we're better off getting what we can for him and spend the money elsewhere. You took the words right out of my mouth -
I completely agree ... those are all needs. I'm beating the WR drum because so much beacuse many of the posts I see focus primarily on O-Line & RB and "we can find WR help anywhere"
-
Josh can use his feet to get away from the rush. He has no targets outside of Knox and Diggs who can get open and catch a ball. We need WR help
-
Okay ... let's go all in on Barkley so Dorsey can give him 7 carries a game while we chuck the ball 50 yards downfield to Stefon Diggs and a bunch of undrafted free agents. Believe me, I want to have an effective running game ... but big money on Barkley is not the answer. I'd rather bring in Greg Roman as run game coordinator and draft a 4th round RB to go with Cook and Singletary (who we probably can resign cheap)

I was going to say that I think McDermott is good enough, but after seeing this, I've changed my mind: Top 5 takeaways from Bills HC Sean McDermott's season-ending press conference (buffalobills.com). I don't see any self-reflection that leads me to believe he is going to make significant changes. Sounds like more of the same old excuses. 1. How the Bengals loss forces the Bills to look in the mirror "Unfortunately, we didn't we didn't play a very good game yesterday and a good team beat us," McDermott said. Poor Execution "It starts and ends at the line of scrimmage, and so we've got to look at that," McDermott acknowledged. We need more Defensive Linemen "We won't stop until we get there," McDermott said. "And that's the vision moving forward, and we're all frustrated on a day after loss in the division round, that's for sure. Extremely proud of how far this organization has come, but not satisfied." Do more of the same 3. Evaluating Ken Dorsey's first season as Bills OC Statistically, the Bills offensive ranked atop several important categories this season. They finished second in points per game (28.4), second in total yards per game (397.6), fourth in first down percentage (36.9) and ninth in red zone TD scoring (60%). "There's a first year for everyone. And I thought Dorsey really did some good things, and there's some things that he can learn from as well. And I know this: when you're committed to a cause, and you work hard at things, and you put the team first, that you learn from experiences. And so, like all of us, we have to learn from the experience," he said. Offense is good, just need to tweak it and learn from mistakes 4. McDermott praises Tremaine Edmunds' season "I thought he had his best year," McDermott said. "I really believe that I think you saw him grow from a leadership standpoint. You saw him grow from a performance standpoint. And I know he's just got that attitude that he wants to continue to improve." We need to keep him at any cost 5. New season, new potential positions for players With a handful of available options to slot in at different positions throughout the secondary, the head coach was asked about possibly moving CB Christian Benford to safety next year. McDermott said that will be talked about in the evaluation process starting on Tuesday. "That's been talked about way back when we first picked up Christian and we'll just see where it goes," McDermott said. No intention of keeping Poyer Another name that was mentioned surrounding the question of moving positions was OT Spencer Brown. After assessing Brown's performance this season, McDermott was asked if the OT could be moved inside and he responded with, "we'll see." "I don't think anything's off the table at this point," McDermott said. "He's a young player and he's very athletic. That being said, you would like to get a young player in one position and let them go and let them grow. You know, in terms of development." Forget getting better players, we'll just reshuffle what we have

Are the Bills committed to Ed Oliver in 2023?
damj replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
If you have the cap room and have a need at DT, there is enough there with him for an organization to think that they could get more out of him. As a GM, I would offer a 3rd round pick, but go as high as a 2. -
There's a Damar Hamlin conspiracy theory on Twitter right now

Ful disclosure ... I once did believe some of those conspiracy. But then again ... I once believed in Santa Claus and our current coaching staff .... so yeah ... -

I'm having a hard enough time with some of the stupidity I'm seeing here already. Please, don't let us get as bad as Twitter!!! -
Good post and I agree. I would add Crowder if the money is right, if not, go to Beasley for one more year while we restock WR through the draft.

FYI…for those worried about cap space Josh solves all problems
damj replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
All Beane has to do is come to TBD for advice. He'll have a ton of cap space after he moves Allen, Diggs, White, Oliver, Dawkins, Milano. -
Hello, the 80s called. They want their offense back. Maybe we can get Barry Sanders to come out of retirement, he probably still has tread on the tires. It's a passing league now and we have ONE WR who can get open and catch the ball. Please, let's CONTINUE to ignore WR ...

You mean like Gabe, McKenzie, Shakir who were so good we had to bring back Brown and Beas?!? We don't want just anyone at WR ... we need WRs who can ... oh, I don't know ... call me crazy ... but consistently get open and catch a freaking ball.

Bills will not make it to the playoffs in 2023?
damj replied to Cygnus99's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think we take a step back ... 11 wins, maybe 12. -

We can save $2.7 mil by cutting Siran Neal after 6/1. $3.3 mil for a ST who can't play on D is a luxury we can't afford any more I like Hines, but $4.5 mil is alot if we're not going to use him on offense. -

Wrong. Oliver is $10.8 mil. Move on, he's not worth it -
5 years and one glaring weakness remains the same…..

Hello. The 80s called. They want their offense back. We DO need to develop an effective, consistent running game, but we ALSO need more than one WR who can consistently get open and make a damn catch. -
Frazier's defense works optimally when 4 players are all healthy. Poyer, Hyde, Edmunds & Taron Johnson. Take 1 out and it doesn't work. Even with all 4 playing, you're at a risk of 13 seconds failure. They try to keep everything in front of them and not get beat deep. They'll give up short/intermediate passes all day and rely on eventually a play being made on 3rd down or the other offense making a mistake. Great QBs make the plays and expose this defense.

It is scary. There are some real morons on this board. The world is safer with them here on TBD proving what football geniuses they are and not out in public

Trade Diggs for assets and go to a more controlled ground game.
damj replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great thinking. Get rid of our only consistent and productive WR. Let's not stop there... Trade Knox and Allen and we can run the Wildcat 100% of the time
