If the Bills draft a QB at #8...
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we draft a QB and add another in free agency, we can give 4 guys each 4 games then declare them all busts -
Ghosts of free agents past
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. TD never really addressed the lines. Mike Williams was a huge bust, but Jennings was a good get in the third round. besides that never really went after O-lineman. Maybe we have the scouts, just the guys making the final decisions made the wrong choices. -
While I am not against free agency, I can only remember a handfull of free agents that have helped the team. The only offensive free agent I can remember being a good get was Kenneth Davis, back when it was just plan B free agency. Remember going after Quinn Early who was supposed to be a big get, or Kevin Williams-how about Bobby Humphry. Defensively we have done a little better-Ted Washington, Bryce Paup, Spielman where good gets, and Spikes was one of TDs good decisions but beyond that the best you can think of is Sam Adams who wined was suspended and while had a few bright moments proved little without Pat Williams next to him. I like the pickup of Tripplett, and while not overjoyed by the others the fill a need on this team and may be better options then what we had. Maybe we will get more , maybe we wont, but either way this team is better with Marv then TD, so lets give him atleast enough rope to hang himself before counting him a failure a few weeks into the job.

Makes you wonder why that arent trying to re-sign the great Ashworth the tackle that so obviously made them SB champs. -
ya know...this makes me mad

I still believe that the best option for the Bills is to trade down, take Winston Justice( I still say that the reason so many skill players from USC are going in round one is because of a dominant line). In round two take Davin Joseph and you have a much better looking O-Line. Then figuring whatever you get for trading down either a second or third you still have three more picks on the first day. You then can address linebacker,D-Line ar safety or maybe take a chance on Croyle as a QB. I still hope the Bills bring in some more Free Agents(as long as it is at a cap friendly price that wont kill us in a year or two), but the best way to build a team is still through the Draft and try to keep your own guys down the line. Free agency is a great way to add pieces but not the best way to build a team(free agents always hurt the team they are leaving more then help the team they are going to), you need good drafting and at this point I do not doubt a Hall of Famer like Marv. in two years if we are not in the playoffs then I will question the direction, but at this point I have faith in him. -
Jets close to acquiring Ramsey
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to Thailog80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lavernous Coles is expected to have a bigger year, last year after leaving the Skins to go back to the Jets it was thought that reuniting him with Chad Pennington would return him to All-pro Status. Silly thinking really because he now misses Ramsey. In further developments the Bills are expected to trade for T.O. -
T.O.'s thought process. Garcia/McNabb, winning QBs with teams that go to the playoffs hasn't worked out. Lets try loosing team with unproven QB

Cross Reggie Wells off our list.....

I dont know why they would re-sign him, I was watching NFL Total Access and they where saying the league was going to cancel the season and just give the Cardinals the Lombardi because they signed Edge. -

I did not know. I know Barret Robbins has gone into a stupor of such proportions. I was just throwing him out there because I figured we could sign him for the Vetran Min. and he would ave to be better then "dont run around me, when you can go over me" Gandy. I do not feel that the free agent market for tackles is good enough for throwing money at. Although if you can find a solid Vet. who comes cheap do it. I like the tackles in the draft and feel that is the way to go. I hear alot of people saying the Bills should go after Ashworth from the Pats but if New England is 21 million under the cap and not trying to re-sign him that makes me think. Although we need OT very badly I do not want to just through money at players who dont equal the output., -
The entire Bills team looks "special" to me

Maybe the Bills could Draft an All-Pro tight end and trade him for Vince Ferragamo -
How strong is next years draft class look. This years is supposed to be strong so maybe I would make that move. We could always then have ammo to trade up and get Ferguson, or tade down with #8 and get even more picks.

Fullbacks in 2006 Draft
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to WVUFootball29's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does anyone now how big of a role the Fullback will play in our new offensive system, I feel with the line being so poor maybe we should play a two tight end set, and maybe that is why we went after Royals because that is what Washington plays. That made the Hogs so good in the late 80s early 90s. -
Hawk is a good player, but I dont feel he makes good sense for us. Although I would be excited if the Bills get him, I think trading down, or going after Ferguson or Williams makes the most sense for us

I think it is ok to talk about with this team. Parcells is said to be so good because he comes in and upgrades the bottom half of his roster first. If you want to build a pyramid you start on the bottom. One or two stars gets you mediocre teams, Sam Adams, Lawyer Milloy are stars that got us nowhere. Although I can see your point and feel your frustration(I am dissappointed from the last few years, but if we where true to rebuilding instead of adding bells and whistles we would be contending this year instead of really starting to rebuild.)- 80 guys go into camp, may as well have competition for all 53 men on the roster, then having 4-5 guys guranteed of making your roster then filling it out with 45 also rans. -
looks like bills might not get ngata
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think taking a linebacker early this year is a mistake. Although Hawk looks to be great(and a cool name for a linebacker), there is alot of depth at that position both in the draft and free agency. whoever gets drafted at #8 is going to get big money and I would rather save money at linebacker and address the lines.Move up to get Williams ar Ferguson or trade down-just my feelings. -

Although I fully support giving JP another year or two, if Brody Croyle is available in round four I take him. -
Me too. The Pats are 21 million under the cap not pursuing anyone and letting their own go. Belichek said he was going to wait till the teams stopped paying the crazy money. You get more bang for the buck later, to much to do to give big money for one or two guys.

I say overpay for Pickett
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would be scared to get Runyan, yes he would be better then what we have but Philly who is a very good team( last years record was because of all the issues they had not because of talent) does not want to bring him back to protect Mcnabb tells me something. Big money for a player in decline is scary. Philly is the type of team that should try to get him to make their push because they are alot closer then we are and they are nto looking to bring him back.If he would come to Buffalo for a low salary then go for it, but dont give him Mega bucks. -
I know that Cleveland cut him last year and not sure if anyone picked him up. He would be an upgrade and probably come on the cheap.

That is the most hope inspiring comment I have heard since something about some dude from Galilee -
I love the Bills, but I was very worried about the way they kept saying we want to win now( I know they probably said it because it is the PC thing to do, you dont want to say we are going to suck especially just before tickets go on sale). Dont get me wrong I hope we win now but I dont think we can. When they say we want to win now that means they may hold onto expensive aging stars who are well past their prime to make a run at the playoffs, and there is a time to do that- When you are in the playoffs and need one player to get over that hump. We however are not that team, we need alot of help. I like the moves the Bills have done in free agency because they have went after younger players with upside, players that should be here in 3-5 years when we should be challenging for the SB. I have no fear of Brady, Culpepper, Lienert in our division. Are they good players hell yes( I may get bashed for this but Brady is the new Montana), but to be the man, you have to beat the man. You have to beat greatness in the playoffs if you make it, and you cant be scared of it. The Steelers didnt back down from Peyton did they, hell no they went after him. I hope the Bills trade down get Winston Justice from USC(there is a reason all those skill position players from that school are 1st round picks) get extra picks and continue to draft offensive and defensive lineman( heck sign Pickett and still draft Wroten in the second round too many D-Lineman is not bad). Then let Losman play the whole year(even if he sucks) then next year make your decision to keep him or let him go. Finish free agency with another D-Tackle a gaurd and maybe a safety. Then next year and the year after get the game breaker when he can be a game breaker, not when you are putting big money into someone who cant get the ball because the O-Line is not giving time to the QB. Anyway that is how I feel, rebuilding is ok if you are rebuilding. After all a 1971 Charger that has a new paint job, nice rims, great soundsystem may look nice but is going nowhere without an engine. Please Marv get us an engine.
