Agree, this is a terrible group of recievers. I think the problem with the tightend over the years is that we dont know what we want out of them, we want primarily blockers we get Royal, now we want more of a recieving threat. They want them to play H-back and Fullback. Now they want a fullback and a Tightend that can stretch the D. I like Fewell as our D-Cordinator but I hope Schonert is an upgrade for the O-cordinator, atleast find a direction for the offense and go with it.
-
I understand that, the point being that I do not think our linebackers our set acroos the board. While I dont think taking one in the first should be a priorty if they take Highsmith in the second I wouldnt be upset. The point I was making about the others leaving is that better linebackers then Crowell have left I do not want the team to pony up huge money to keep him. He is a nice player but not great. Hes Marvcus Patton or Kieth Newman all over again, liked here in Buffalo but probably wouldnt amount to much more then a borderline starter on another team.

Agree 100%

Crowell is Slightly better then average. He is very good in coverage, terrible at rushing the passer, and totally engulfed at the point of attack. He is nice to have around but being made team captian. There have been posts on this board about locking him up long term. If this team can let Conlan, Bennett, Talley, walk(even if it was late in there careers) while trading Spielman for a box of jock straps, and telling Paup and Cowart to not let the door hit them on the way out. Listen I am not trying to stir things up, I simply think that him being the best we have doesnt translate him to being good.
-
While I dont agree with the pick either, our LB unit is getting way to much love. Crowell is overrated, Poz has only played three NFL games, and Mitchell has been a career journeymen.

I think the reason we have been bad for so long is that we change direction every two or three years. I dont think Williams was as bad as we all made him out to be, he built a good defence with Jerry Gray, Mularkey was the biggest joke since Kay Stephenson and now we have DJ. All of this in a 7 year span, if we could go back in time and hit TD(he cost us 5-6 years on his own) over the head and tell him to hire John Fox we would have been better off maybe, or maybe after two years we would have ran him out of town. I like the fact it looks like we are commiting to a plan and seeing it through. It may take some time but atleast we seem to be going in the right direction. Also I think maybe we do over value some players I think Crowell is the most overrated LB we ever had, and McGee is a solid CB but not great. The Orginization I think has overvalued Kelsey. As far as Lee Evans is concerned sometimes he reminds me of Jerry Butler(really good0, and sometimes like Don beebe (better then average). On the upside the past two drafts have brought us Whitner, McCargo, Butler, Lynch, and Poz who all look like they could turn into probowl like players, while Simpson, and Edwards shows potential to be good. Also Players like Pizza man, Youboty, and Merz all look like they can be good depth players. A couple more drafts like this could make us dominant for a decade providing we resign some players.

Matt Leinart will be a bust.....
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to djh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually think Houston gets their way trades the top spot to either the Jets or Titans and Lienert is selected first overall. You can question anything you want about the guy, but he proved loyalty, smarts and that he is a winner. Now before I here "well Brock Berlin, and Gino Torretta where winners" Lienert is clearly better then them. I know saying Bush is not going to be the top draft pick is blasphemy here, but I do not think RB's are worth that much, and I do not think that the Texans want the media scrutiny of not selecting him, so they will sell the spot cheaper then the top spot maybe deserves. O-line makes the RBs in the NFL, which by the way the Bills need before anything else. -

I will add my vote to Busty Polish Girl, but instead of the Bowling ball how about some sausage and a genny. -
Really if you stop to think about it, there are only a handful of great QBs in the game today. You have three in their prime Peyton, Brady, and Mcnabb-you have two that where great Favre, and McNair and two that could become grat Big Ben and Palmer. Then you have alot of good QBs Brees, Culpepper, Hasselback, Eli, Vick, Bulger and others. So teams put a premium on QBs because you can win a super bowl without a great QB but it makes it alot harder. So sometimes teams get googly eyed over a big arm but that doesnt always translate because in the NFL you have to fit it in more then in college. Alot of first round picks are busts but QBs stick out more, because of the expectations, pressure. and the spotlight that comes with the position. By the way a late round pick I would like the Bills to get at QB would be Drew Olsen the QB from UCLA, I was watching a draft show the other day and they where showing Mercedes Lewis highlights and all these passes thrown to him I thought where tight and on the money many times in traffic.

The bad news if Golisano ever buys the Bills

WNY Bills? Could be the answer
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to trolls_r_us's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I admit that there are many more millionaires in LA then Buffalo, there a very few Billionaires in the world Golisano is one of them. The problem with making the team regionalize is that we are already drawing from those markets, you wouldnt get much more. Although the idea of a smaller stadium is great. Also we could get new fascilitys to attract free agents. Also we could do things like green bay does and have a resteraunt and mall put into the stadium to give it more revenue. Hell how about building a track for nascar inside the stadium, we could get some racing and further increased revenue. -

The Bill will need at least 3 starters
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to Nick in RaChaCha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This team needs offensive lineman, the only ones we have had the past decade have just been offensive. I feel that we have the best offensive line coach in the league and he cant make these guys competent. Justice at 8 (or D'Brick if hes there) or trade down. If we dont take Justice he will be gone shortly after us, I dont care if people think he is not worth an 8 spot if he is a good tackle for the next ten years I dont care if you trade up to a top five slot to get him. In round two get his teamate Lutui if he is still there. I dont care if we pick O-Linemen the entire draft, we aren't winning the SB this year anyway, fix a problem that has been a problem since Ritcher,Wolford,Ballard,Hull, and Devlin have left. Please for the love of God I cant take another year of our QB getting sacked as soon as he gets the ball. -
With the 8th selection...
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to BuckeyeBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hawk is a weak side linebacker or inside linebacker. We play a 4-3 therefore dont have an inside linebacker but rather a middle linebacker which Hawk is not. I have no problems releasing Posey, he plays the strong side so Hawk could not play there. If you draft Hawk you would have to move Spikes to the strong side. -

They one two championships in the 60's and one four AFC titles in the 90's. After that they have been awful and pretty good. All franchises go through that. A handful of teams ie the Steelers, Raiders, Dolphins, Redskins and Cowboys have been good many times. Most teams however go through highs and lows. Pats where very rarely good till recently, the Browns, Seahawks, Saints, and Bucs have rarely been Good. The Pack was good in the begining, then terrible till the late 90's and are bad again. Besides the Namath years the Jets have been losers. I think the Bills are on par with most of the league, it just stings more because they are our team. -

Why is Mort bashing Wilson. Is it because Wilson always favored Leo Roth, Larry Felser, and the late great Will Mcdonaugh(sp). Ralph does not interfere as much as half the owners in the league(Jerry Jones). Laundry the Cowboys only coach to that point found out he wasnt the coach of the team by watching the 6 oclock news. Also released Jimmy Johnson(who may be an arogant prick but was a great coach). No Ralph's problem was that he gave total control to TD and didnt get involved enough. It is important to trust people but he gave Donahoe to much trust. Ralphs getting bashed because he is standing up to the new NFL regime. What is going on is political spin to make Wilson look bad to discredit his fight against the league. Ralph has put his money where his mouth is with sharing funds among teams, he saved the Raiders from going bankrupt when he bought into the team to help keep them afloat many years ago. He, Mara, and Rooney where great friends that realized they where in business together not against each other. He always thought of the good of the league, he even voted against his friend Modell to keep the Browns in Cleveland. Ralph is everything that made the NFL great, and unfortunatley it looks like when he goes so doesnt the last of the great ones. On a side note I am upset that Mr. Hunt has not come to Wilsons aid, him and Wilson are the last of the original owners, you would think he would say something. -
Buffalo may not have much going for it
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When it comes to politics, I never vote by party. I am an independent, and rarely listen to the spin politicians throw out. However any politician that can create jobs, lower taxes and keep the Bills in Buffalo would get my vote.At the moment I dont believe any politician could do all three. So I will vote to for the next Gov. by who makes me believe he will not cater to NYC. Keep our upstate hope alive, as I am tired of all the states resources going to support a city that does not support me. -
Who would be a better fit for our new defense
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to firstngoal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hawk is a weak side linebacker, you would have to move Spikes to the strong side. The top Strong side linebacker is Demaco Ryan, who wouldnt be a bad idea if you trade down. Ryan is a strong stand up leader who demands the most of his teamates. He made everyone pick up the trash off the floor from around their stalls so the cleaning crew did not have to pick up after the players. I think if you traded down picked up some extra picks Ryan might be the best fit. -
Help a young "STUPID" couple

The man I admire most in this world is my father. I remember when I was graduating and looking at going into the service the different recruiters where coming over to the house. When the one recruiter(I will leave the branch of service he was in off because I think all branches of service are good and I do not want to makeone look bad) he was telling me and my parents of all the success waiting for me if I joined his branch. I will never forget what happened next the recruiter looked at my father and said you dont want your son working at Perkins the rest of his life do you. My father replied the world needs people who work at Perkins. I ultimatley chose to join the Army and have lead a very fulfilling life then and since I got out. but if I had decided to stay local and work at Perkins it was nice to know that my father would have been proud of me just as much as being a veteran. By the way my father and mother where married at 18, my father dropped out of school and became a truck driver to support his new wife and me who was on the way. My parents have been happily married for 33 years and my father has become successful at his profession, both financially and in the eyes of his peers.
