I see your argument but disagree. We will chalk this one up to differences of opinion. Good luck and have a great Easter. -
Bills meet with CB Vontae Davis?...... Really?
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whats so upsetting that since the Bills took Conlan and traded for Biscuit(in 1987, thats 20 plus years) the only defensive front seven player they drafted in the first round was Erick fricken sucks Flowers. The front seven should be a priorty every year unless you are the Bears of 85. Forget everything else, this teams front seven needs a makeover from top to bottom. Dump them all except maybe Stroud and Mitchell(and Mitchell is a career journeymen).Use the first three picks for the next 3 years at D-Line and LB then maybe we will have a good foundation to build this team around. We are rebuilding again whether we like it or not, which I am ok with except we are back to square one for the 3rd or 4th time in a row and still doing the same stupid things only making the mistakes even worse. When my wife goes to the grocery store she has a list cuopons and a plan for what she is making that week. She gets it all done for a family of five in less then an hour. When I go it takes me two hours to get what we need for the next couple of days and I get that much done because usually some store clerk sees me stumbling around takes pitty on me and comes to give me help. Its obvious that Russ Brandon and Dicky J are alot like me at the grocery store. -

Just because he is better reciever then Parrish doesnt make him a good reciever, or more valuable to the team. JR gets 30 catches a year maybe, doesnt return kicks, and whines and pouts alot. Loosing RP hurts this team alot more then losing JR. Just because we have alot of bodies at WR doesnt mean they are any good(outside Evans, and TO if he can hold form at 36, and not cause trouble this year) outside that we have scrubs and some potential. I would rather keep RP for what he does then Josh Reed for what he doesnt. -

a 4-3 linebacker 5 sacks is a good year. If they are a 3-4 LB those are the ones you want double digit sacks from. -

I really dont get all the Josh Reed love. I would rather cut reed, then trade Roscoe. No way does Roscoe get you more then a fourth round pick in a trade and I think we would be lucky to get that. I love the mans return ability. With that said whoever Bobby April puts back there has done well for us, so maybe he has another ace up his sleeve. Our other returns FJ will be the starting Rb for 3 games maybe more depending on injury. McKelvin will probably start atleast be the nickelback. Maybe we bring back fast Freddy ofcourse he is a WR too. A little lost on this one. I still think that outside Evans our wr are just middle of the pack. TO is 36 and we may be getting him just on past performance and name value, Hardy's hands looked like they where made out of stone and although I liked what Stevie Johnson did last year, I also liked Flip Johnson 20 years ago and thought he was going to turn into a stud. I think Roscoe is the only one besides LE that you know what you are getting all the others have too many questions. Keep Roscoe he was an ace on the ST which are the only thing that has worked for the Bills the last decade. -
Brian Cushing Strengths- versatility can drop into coverage, rush the QB, play all three LB positions, and some rush DE. Safe pick. Weaknesses- injury problems two years ago. http://www.nfl.com/videos click on the link then onto teams-pick bills-then the video called on the beat.

As a member of law enforcement I am offended by your comments. You know nothing sir and are basing your entire post on broad generalities about bad decisions of a few officers. It may seem bad because the media generally speak of the mistakes made and bad cops making them. Never on the six Oclock news have I seen a person lived because a drunk was pulled over by the cop, or police stopped habitual sex offender from walking into school yard-that happened hundreds of times the same day this one bad incident happened. Are there bad cops, yes, are there ones that make bad ecisions, yes. Every job field in every sector of the world have them. It will be that way to the end of time

How do you know its an overpayment to get him at 11, and just because you want to trade down doesnt mean you can. -

I like Ayers at 11. If I am going to trust any draftnik it is Mayock. The guys owned alot of top end OTs last year. He played on a bad team that was behind alot, therefore the alot of teams didnt have to throw on them lowering his sack totals. 49 tackles and 15.5 tackles for a loss is pretty good against top competition in the SEC. -

I totally agree with you, Penn State players rarely translate to the NFL besides the ones you named Going back to 87. That year they had 2 picks go in the first round Conlan who was good and DJ Dozier who wasnt. They didnt have a single player go in the first round again till 1990 when the Jets took Blair Thomas 2nd overall and he is an all time flop. In 93 the Dollphins took OJ McDuffie in the first to continue the Flop streak. In 95 they had three players go in the top ten of the draft, Kyle Brady, Kerry Collins, and KiJana Carter while Brady and Collins have had long careers they are both flops especially to the teams that took them, and Carter I am not sure he ever even played(due to injury so flop, flop, flop). In 96 they had two go in the first Jeff Hartings hit and Andre Johnson flop(also noteably that year Bobby Engram went in the second round so that could be a hit I guess). In 98 the Bears took Curtis Enis in the first (big Flop). Then in 2000 as you pointed out Courtney Brown and Lavar Arrington both Flops. In 2003 they had 4 players go in the first round. Jimmy Kennedy (flop), Bryant Johnson (flop),Michael Haynes(Flop), and Larry Johnson hit, in 2006 Tambi Hali still is a question mark good first year not so hot since, and Levi Brown who is looking better. -
What would it take for you to trade Peters?
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont want to trade Peters, I think it is a worse case scenario. However if my hand is forced it would take atleast 2 first round picks, a second round pick, and a third round pick. It doesnt have to be all this year, it could be over this year and next. Is the price high, hell yes but that is what it costs to get young probowl LTs. If I am giving up something that is going to cripple my O-line then you are going to have to make it worthwhile. Heres to hoping the return of Buddy Nix helps our scouting. -

Just how bad is Buffalo nightlife?
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I cant offer to much of an opinion on Buffalo nightlife because I am older, a father, and married now.(A wild night is sipping some Johnny Walker before bed). However I was stationed at Ft Hood in the 90's(93-99) and there is nothing that comes close to 6th street in Austin TX. That is where the Cowboys hold training camp, I cant imagine anything anywhere in WNY or the surounding areas competeing with that -
Schobel hasnt been good in years, blame the injuries if you want. If you are expecting a 32 YO DE to suddnely stay healthy and get sacks something he hasnt done in three years, I think we are fooling ourselves. All three must go, if I had to keep one it would be Denney, because he actually fits as a good third or fourth DE coming in to play the run. Kelsy has never been starting material, not good enough in any one area to be a situtaional player. Schobel is older, slower, and constanly gets hurt he has become a marginal player.

I know what you are saying and I truly understand it. However I was under the impression ( not from any special source just an old Army buddy that lives in Cleveland) Mangini got the head coach job because He worked under Wiess in NE who was Quinns coach in college and would run a system that Brady was familar with. This just doesnt seem right, and I do like Cutler but how much faster would he acclimate to a new system in a year, year and a half maybe. It just seems to me that if I was a Browns fan this would be a bothersome move for me. -

I know that he struggled some last year, but talk about a lack of patiences. They gave the bank to move up into the first round then give him all of 6 or so starts then trade him. This makes Bills fans diligence with QBs look downright benevolent. -

The real question here is why in the world would Cleveland want Cutler. They have Quinn, did I miss something with him. Also Anderson is as good as a number 2 as you can get. Dealing Anderson would be smart if you can get a good deal for him. The Brownies signal callers struggled last year had as much to do with B. Edwards dropping balls, and Winslow not living up to expectations as anything. Tradding Quinn makes no sense for either team unless Tampa is still trying to work out a three team trade for a QB, then Anderson could go to the Broncos, and Cutler to the Bucs with Quinn staying in Cleveland. -
Tim Graham on AFC East
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to Nightcrawler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I said the *Pats with Brady back will be better. I am not worried about Fred Taylor, a team with pretty good injury prone RBs got another pretty good injury prone RB, there is still only 1 football to run.He is no better at this point in his career as Sammy Morris. Up until last year with Mayo the *Pats have had a pretty bad run of drafting early as well. Maurony, Chad Jackson, and that safety that I cant even remember his name come to mind. Now they have a new guy running the draft, maybe they will do well maybe not. -
Tim Graham on AFC East
The Rev.Mattb74 ESQ. replied to Nightcrawler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I had posted this earlier, but I thought I would post this again. I just dont see how the rest of the AFC east has became that much better. The Jets They hired a new coach from a system that puts out big named co-ordinators that are supposedly the second comming of Lambordi reguraly. Marvin Lewis and Ted Nolan have both fallen on they're face, they're defence will learn a new system for the third time in three years. They signed a LB that played next to Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs, and behind a very good D-line and the best safety in football behind them. On offense they lost Brett Farve who maybe wasn't the old Brett Farve, but teams still had to respect his deep ball. All they have now is three unproven QBs and they will have a new signal caller for the third straight year. They also lost their starting gaurd, wide reciever and a pretty good second TE. Oh ya they are hoping that Thomas Jones can put up another 1000 yard year without a QB that can throw deep. The Dolphins I can't stand how everyone in the NFL falls all over Parcells jock like he can't do any wrong. He hasn't built a champion since wide right. Meanwhile coaches that have won a SB since(Gruden, Shannahan, and Billick come to mind) are not in the NFL, how in twenty years, and four teams after his last SB win he still is the NFL golden boy makes me sick. They have signed a couple of the middle of the road players most noteably Chowder who played for them last year(not really an upgrade). They are hoping that Pennington arm can keep it together another year, Ricky Williams will stay sane, and teams will still be lost on stopping that gimmick Wildcat offense. Also to be noted teams that have a big turn around in one season usually come back to earth the next year. The *Patriots The *Patsy's will be better next year because they get Brady back, not because they got Fred Taylor. I do like the signing of Baker he really would have been a nice pick-up for the Bills. However in the grand scheme of things its not huge. Any thoughts -
If I truly thought that DJ was on the hot seat I would be much more optimistic. Remember Ralph wasnt going to fire Mularkey, who was the biggest joke of a coach since the great Hank Bullough(and yes DJ is 10 times better then MM but he still is not good). He quit because he felt the fans drove him out. Even if we do get a new coach, I dont know if the front office will change. Also Ralph will make any coach keep the assistants because he wont want to pay for new ones. I could care less about the fact we are not signing free agents, I am a Bills fan and patients runs through my viens. My problem is that it looks like we are not trying to be better then sub .500 ball. Patients only works when you have something to be patient for, this is something different. This is marking time. I was truly fine with today until the Dockery trade screw up( I know I am going of on a tear for something that might not be true.) It just hurts me that this level of crap is supposed to be for politics and once a year when my boss asks how my supervisors are doing. Its almost like they are doing this right infront of us then saying no where not we are actually doing pretty good, and we promise to do better, now buy tickets and merchandise until we move to a different town. Whoa sorry getting a little carried away for a second, just guess I feel lied to. I'm pist.
