  1. I don't think it has anything to do with respectability on the field. It has everything to do with can the Big East pull in a market that would be lucrative for their conference? I say, without a doubt, yes. Now, the rest would fall on UB's shoulders. UB needs the facilities to do this. Period. But they already could have a plan in place similar to what other teams in the Big East do (Pitt and USF). Play at their local NFL Stadium. The Buffalo market would be prime for the Big East to come to the area. Think about, what interest their is in college football would be greatly improved in a market that is more than suitable to pay college prices for tickets. The Buffalo area grew up on the Big East, and bringing it right to their doorstep would be a windfall for UB and the conference. This is different than saying let's go get Ball State or most any other MAC schools to play in the Big East because most other MAC school "areas" follow, and have followed the Big Ten for years. Buffalo, however, is a huge Big East supporter. Again, a natural fit. Buffalo is also a big city compared to most of the MAC schools. Similar, as we said, to other Big East cities. The natural rivalry is already there with SU. To some extent, it would be there with Pitt as well. Now this is a real pipe dream, but could you imagine the following Big East Conference: Penn State Pittsburgh Buffalo Syracuse Boston College UCONN Rutgers Temple West Virginia Marshall Louisville Cincinnati How cool would that be? And look at all of the natural rivalries. This would be a league that would thrive over time. Pipe dream, but it would be pretty cool to see, IMO. If anything, at least it would be a more true Big East.
  2. While most of these UB fans are dilusional on here about how "hot" a candidate their coach is, and how UB and Syracuse are equal in terms of football programs, I think there is merit for Buffalo joining the Big East. There have been about 20 coaches that have done what Gill has done in the MAC, and a lot more, over about the last 10 years. Some of the comments on here about UB are downright laughable. BUT, I was thinking about this over the weekend in therms of UB in the Big East. Why not? If UB wants to be a major player, they would need to commit to facilities big time. Not just in football, but every other sport. That's step #1. But, with the Big East taking a huge hit when all of their teams left, why would they not want to add the Buffalo market (which would be a HUGE college market) to their conference? Buffalo is now a natural fit. Think of the big cities in the Big East.....Pittsburgh, New England area (UCONN), Louisville, Cincinnati, NJ/NYC (Kinda),Tampa and then established big fan bases such as WVU and the Syracuse potential. Buffalo would be a great fit. As no doubt South Florida will someday drop out, Buffalo should try to get in to the BIg East and then the conference could just "settle down" over the next 5-10 years, and let these big cities (college speaking) grow some fan bases and rivalries. I think the Big East would do well to add Buffalo to it's market. UB could also play at the Ralph in big games, if not all of them. At least until the upgrade their stadium. Hell, if the Big East would be progressive in football, they could go grab Toledo too. Oh well, as a non UB fan, I'd actually think it would be cool to see them in the Big East. They should make a run at it.
  3. Hell, why did you go to those guys, just go to the guys in the MAC right now, who are shoe in draft prospects...... Nate Davis - Ball State 2006 150 245 1975 61.2 8.06 81 18 8 13 146.65 2007 270 478 3667 56.5 7.67 77 30 6 26 139.13 2008 201 299 2822 67.2 9.44 61 24 6 10 168.98 Those stats are just SICK. Almost Ridiculous. 72 TD's, and 20 INT's. He's only a junior. Dan Lefevour 2006 247 388 3031 63.7 7.81 88 26 10 24 146.24 2007 355 543 3652 65.4 6.73 76 27 13 22 133.50 2008 201 298 2153 67.5 7.23 46 15 4 17 142.07 THese are equally disgusting, and you have to add to LeFevour's stats that he also has 32 More Rushing TD's on top of his 68 TD's passing, and nearly 2300 more rushing yards. That's Tebow stuff. Ummmmmm........Studs. All three years of playing football for their teams.
  4. Seriously here, I'm probably the most knowledgable poster on this site about the MAC Conference. The only QB's I know that are supposed shoe-ins to get drafted are Nate Davis of Ball State, and Dan Lefevour (somewhere late 5-6 from all I can find). When the next hot QB comes up outside of these two in the MAC it is almost always Tim Heller of Western Michigan. The turnaround for UB is all some mythical thing you guys have created in your head. Great, so UB is a decent MAC team. Consider this......Ball State had the longest losing streak in the country five years ago. Now, they are knocking on the door of a BCS bowl game. Lead by Davis, they have turned around from the joke of D-1 football to a MAC power backed by a solid NFL draft prospect in Davis. LeFevour has stats equivalent to Tim Tebow's, especially last season. He's a stud, and both he and Davis are only Juniors. LeFevour has owned the MAC in his tenure and he was unseated by Davis as to who is considered the best in the MAC. THese two QB's are known nationally, by scouts, and by household name. Tim Heller of Western Michigan is the next up and comer in the MAC. He's done some things this season that have turned heads, and he's played well in a couple of showcase games against good competition. He will square off for what is basically the MAC Championship next week against Ball State. THese three guys are all thought of very highly in the NFL Circles, AND they have all been studs in the MAC COnference. The UB rags to riches story isn't all that great a story as you make them out to be. Every team in the MAC usually goes from bottom to top, and then fall right back down again. The cycle constantly repeats itself. Drew Willy has done nothing that isn't being dwarfed by other MAC QB's at this time in the conference. Not saying he isn't good, but geeeeez. UB's is pretty much a slightly above average MAC team in a horrible Eastern Division. Turner Gill hasn't done anything near what say......Brady Hoke has done in Muncie. Willy is the same. I hope Willy gets drafted. If he does, and LeFevour, Davis and Hiller come out, it could very well mean that the MAC will have four drafted QB's. But, Willy, is a guy I never hear buzz about other than on this board. I'm just sayin. Hope I'm wrong for the kid!
  5. Prome, why did you start this thread, when you have another one talking about the same thing?
  6. Who was making these NFL references to Willy and NFL during the game??? Oh, and congrats to UB!
  7. Oh geez, here we go again. You do know of course that the two best QB's in the MAC, by far, are Nate Davis and Dan Lefevour right? Now, I haven't seen Willy play except in some very limited highlights.......but Davis and LeFevour are by far the two best. Davis is guaranteed to be drafted, and Lefevour is the poor man's Tim Tebow. I'm not sure about Lefevour's draft prospects. Other than visiting this board, I've never heard Willy's name once! Not saying he isn't good, but cmon.
  8. What the hell happened where extra points were being missed? How's the weather?
  9. No doubt, and deep down in that's how I feel. However, I'm so sick of everyone talking about the big boys that I thought I'd stir up some trash talk only to get the game talked about. No other reason. I actually hope UB makes it, but like I said before, ANY kind of talk about MAC football is OK. Your typical Promo talk about UB only gets about 10 replies and it's usually the same 4 people posting. I am only trying to get some of the fan base riled up a bit, as I know I'm probably the only BSU fan here. So, here's the only time I'll be nice in the post......GOOD LUCK TONIGHT!!! Should you win, UB fans should be rooting for Ball State next Tuesday also, otherwise, nobody in the nation will even remotely care about the MAC Championship game.
  10. Oh, have no fear, you'll get us. And trust me, you'll remember the name Ball State afterwards from the beatdown you'll get. Matter of fact, the treadmarks of the tires that ran you over last season when Ball State throttled UB are probably still there. Ummmmm, I guess we have to get there first though. That is one minor sidenote.
  11. Yeah, I knew they got out. They were actually either selling or had it sold when I was still in Muncie coaching in the late 90's. The factory complex was quite ominous looking sitting there dormant.
  12. LOL. I remember that. What a tool. Great rep of BSU. Again though, imagine how excited he'll be when we roll the MAC LEAST champion in Detroit. He might actually choke on his own tongue.
  13. Why in the hell did they move from Buffalo to Muncie? I mean, you would think Buffalo would have had a great labor force and a great place to anchor their company. Pretty wild! I did not know that.
  14. Nice on the Ball U sweatshirt. That's hilarious. Honestly though, I have no idea where the Ball family was originally from. I'm sure it's somewhere in my original orientation packet, but I really have no idea. So, where are they from? Also, go to LaBamba's in the village, and get a burrito that is actually bigger than your head. God, I loved that place.....especially at 3am! Also, a little more about Ball State.......of course it was David Lettermans school. On the wall to the T-com building that he basically built, a plaque reads............"To all my fellow C- students, keep up the average work, there's hope". LOL Also, Jim Davis, creator of Garfield. Joyce Dewitt, Janet on Three's Company. In the NFL, I actually was roommates with Brad Maynard, who now punts for the Bears for two years. There were eight of us who lived in that house. Brad was actually the MAC player of the year once as a punter. He used to get into fistfights with our QB at BSU about who was more valuable to the team. A team that went to the Las Vegas bowl. The QB, who was pretty good, was so jealous that Maynard got so many accolades. A little about Maynard......you all might think is funny. *** If you all think agents are on the up and up, you are seriously mistaken. Agents would call our house all of the time and offer things, sometimes as expensive as cars to anyone in the house if Maynard would sign with them. This was while he was playing. AND HE WAS A PUNTER. *** Roid raging Todd Sauerbrun used to call our house drunk at night and talk sh-- to Brad, either on the phone or on our answering machine, and he didn't even know him. When Maynard started receiving all American mention and awards in magazines and stuff, Sauerbrun found our number and started calling and talking trash. A total TOOL JOB. My second year living in the athletic dorm, I lived across the hall from Ketih McKenzie, who briefly played with the Bills. His claim to fame was walking down the hallway totally naked when the cleaning LADY showed up every day. LOL. She eventually got used to him, gave up on trying to tell on him, and would smack his ass every Friday for good luck. The cleaning lady was about 55 yrs old! Awesome lady. Bernie Parmalee, the dolphins all purpose back was construed as a UPS driver and then miraculously just happened to be a productice NFL player. Nothing could be further from the truth, as he held almost all of BSU's rushing records for quite a while. I used to laugh out loud when the media tried to make him out to be this average Joe right off of the UPS truck. He did work for UPS, but he was one hell of a RB. Oh well, that's all. I'm sure when Ball State loses their 19 senior starters this year, we'll fall back into oblivion, but for now, I'mma live it up good.
  15. Wow, I have no idea who this guy is, but under the circumstances (of all I've read about this guy and the condition of that facility where he fell) of this terrible accident I wish his family the best. RIP Tom, and I'm saying a prayer for you and your family.
  16. The only thing greasy would be Paterno's greasy fingers after eating chicken up in the press box during the game, as he "figureheads" the Lions to another victory. While not likely, it's also not far fetched to think that BSU could hang with PSU. The MAC has been beating Big Ten teams for year's now. This is something that never used to happen, and it happens with regularity now. The MAC puts a lot of scares into many Big Ten teams too. Without Dante Love, Ball State laid the wood to Indiana, at IU, about as good as Penn State beat them. So, no, it's not far fetched.
  17. Gord, good analysis. At least someone here knows about the MAC. I can tell you bet the conference. Being a Penn State fan myself (I grew up in PA), I have no doubt, WITH DANTE LOVE, that Ball State would put up some major points on PSU. However, I think they would lose because they are very undersized on defense and kind of slow. I could see Penn State winning like 45-31 or something like that. Unfortunately, without Dante Love, the luster of just how good Ball State really is will not be shown to the country. With Love, their offense was unstoppable, and had four legit first day NFL draft picks on it. Without him, they are still good, but not quite good enough to beat a higher end BCS caliber team only because they wont' be able to win a shootout with them, similar to Boise State's win a couple of years ago. And yes, WMU is a huge opponent this week. BSU better come down from celebrating real quick, or they could lose, even at home.
  18. LOL. Also not bad, but still kinda weak. Actually, go on down to grannie's basement and grab one of those Ball mason jars and see just how the Ball family made their fortune. Hell, maybe I should write to the Ball family, they probably have enough money to buy the Bills. Does that make Muncie a more viable NFL city than Buffalo??? OK OK, that wasn't so funny! lol
  19. LOL, not bad! But hey, as we used to say in Indiana to Hoosier fans.....I'd rather Ball U, than IU. BEST TEAM IN INDIANA. And yes, Notre Dame, Purdue, and Indiana, I'm talking to you!
  20. I don't think the bandwagon is going to crash if you jump off, so I think we'll be alright. And yes, being from Pittsburgh, I too grew up going to Penn State games, so I'm with you there though. McGalliard and Tillotson huh? That's really cool. I played baseball at BSU in the early 90's and have seen many a ball hit those roads. Of course, it was usually someone from Notre Dame, Purdue or Kent hitting them. BUT, and now I regress into a Jim Rome type idiot again......the MAC is usually a non-factor in the BCS scheme of things.....so to drum up a little smack (or more importantly interest in a conference that has little), just to cause ANY interest in it is OK. I mean seriously........it's the MAC. Any talk about it is a good thing. Especially for UB and it's allegiance of 4,000 fans! So again........come on UB......come get your ass whooped!
  21. Oops, I thought you typed that you beat WMU. Ummmm, we'll beat WMU. Just watch on ESPN next week. It will be bedlum. Actual fans at a MAC game in a packed BSU stadium. Should be electric.
  22. LOL, you mean squeak that one out on the road, in a hostile environment (CMU actually draws fans), against the premiere MAC team over the last about 4-5 years? You've gotta come better than that. CMU has owned BSU over the past. Us "squeaking one out" at CMU is the equivalent of the Bills being able to go to New England and "squeak one out". DING DONG, the Central Michigan witch is dead, and Ball State is going where no MAC team has ever gone before. GO BALL STATE.
  23. We'll hold up our end of the bargain, in our stadium next week against Western Michigan. We'll be 12-0. We'll then celebrate like the hoodlums at WVU used to when the Mountaineers beat Penn State back in the day. Campus will burn, goal posts will come down, rent a cops will run, and Letterman will give national exposure on free network TV. Then, my Ball State Cardinals are going to be waiting for you in the MAC title game. Hopefully we'll somehow sneak into the BCS too. I doubt we can climb into it, although two teams ahead of them in the BCS are guaranteed to lose this week no matter what because four of those teams all play each other. This doesnt include OKLA and TT. Hopefully though they can avoid the MAC title game's pathetic Motor City Bowl. I want a real opponent in a real bowl game. And all of this without the best player on our team.....Dante Love. Yes, I'm talking smack. And no, I don't respect UB or any other pathetic team in the East Division. And no, Turner Gill and his mediocre schemes don't scare me at all. I understand you gotta start somewhere, and start a winning tradition, but you will get smacked in the title game!!!! BRING IT ON......IF........you can even get there!
