Sabres Carolina tickets go on sale
Lv-Bills replied to USMCBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
lol. Nah, not really. I mean, when you grow up with Lemiuex and the Pens, you are used to high caliber, offensive hockey for years. I've been to New Jersey, Washington, Buffalo, NY (Isles), and probably a few other arena's not to mention Mellon Arena countless times for playoff hockey. Any hockey fan, obviously LOVES playoff atmosphere. We just wanted to grab an underdog when the Canes made their run a couple seasons ago. Lately, the Pens obviously still suck. There is a hockey team near me that has cheap tickets and a great atmosphere. It's a great area, and a nice arena. So, to get the playoff feel, we went down a couple of years ago, thinking it would suck. It didn't. It was AWESOME in the playoffs in Raleigh. Matter of fact, 4 of us Pens fans (three who actually live in Pittsburgh, and me, a transplant) went to every game in the Eastern Conference finals in Raleigh vs. Toronto, wore full Pens gear and rooted for Ron Francis to get to the Cup. We were a hit. We had Canes fans and Leafs fans (who I hate) all around our tailgate all day. It was fun. So, with the Pens out again this year, we (all 4 Pittsburgh fans)have repeated going to Canes games in the playoffs. And it's been a blast. I cant' wait for games 1 and 2, most likely this weekend. The NHL passion isn't as strong as football, and the more the Pens threaten to move, the more I think about just becoming a full fledge Canes fan. It's closer, cheaper, nicer, and all I'm really looking for out of the NHL is that cheap thrill until football starts again anyway. But, I'll remain a Pens fan through and through. But, and I say but, if the Pens move, I'll have no problem switching to the Canes to get my football fix. Sabres fans should enjoy the atmosphere there. It's very rowdy in Raleigh. So, win or lose, the price of the ticket should be a good deal for the Eastern Conference Finals. Enjoy, and go Canes! -

OK morons, and pukers....comprehend before you all get your panties in a bunch. I grew up in Pittsburgh. My whole family was sitting around watching the Steelers and Bills in the first NFL game I can remember watching. Just to be a dickhead little kid, I guess, I rooted for the Bills. Then, one chhristmas I get Bills tickets up in Orchard Park, and through high school, college and now, here I am. I now have season tickets, and travel all over to see the Bills. I love Penn State, the Pirates, and the Penguins. Since my NHL team sucks, I chose to go to Carolina a couple of years ago and catch the Canes in the playoffs. Their prices are cheap, their crowd is very rowdy, and they tailgate. Enough for me. So, when the Pens suck, and I need to experience playoff hockey, I go and watch the Canes. And it's very fun. If the Pens ever move, I'll have no problem switching. The NHL is the NHL. If the Bills ever moved, I could never root for anyone else. Now, is that acceptable, or is there some kind of application I must fill out to be able to have become a BILLS FAN ONLY? I have no ties, allegiances, or pride to root for the Sabres whatsoever. Matter of fact, in 2002, when the Pens spanked the Sabes.....it was soooo odd. I'm up in HSBC, game 5....Sabres win.....and I'm around all my Bills bretheren, but I was in full Lemiuex gear rooting for the Penguins. That, I must admit, kinda sucked. Cuz I love the Buffalo sports crowd. Go Canes! -

I have two tickets for games 1,2,5, and 7 in Raleigh. Second row from the glass on the faceoff circle where Carolina shoots twice. AWESOME tickets when the play is in that end. They pretty much suck when the play is in the other end. Went to one game in round 1 vs. Montreal, and one game in round two vs. Jersey. The season ticket holder, who we bought the tix from in Rounds 1 and 2, bought us two seats for this round and the cup finals. Should be interesting, because I have LV-BILLS on my Virginia plates and a Bills logo on my windshield but I'll be rooting for the Canes. Hope my car doesn't get smashed. LOL Should be a good series. RBC is insane in the playoffs. The two teams are similar, and I'm sure HSBC will be rocking too. You won't hear a louder arena than Raleigh. It's kinda cool down here, because the sport is relatively new, fans aren't the most knowledgable which makes them more excitable about the game. You'll often find that the whole arena will be standing for about 15 minutes of any given period. It's alot of fun. If some Sabres fans go down there, they'll enjoy what they see in terms of atmosphere. Plus, the weather down here is good, and everyone tailgates like it's football. Good Stuff. -
Miami improved a ton last season. Didn't really lose anyone of consequence outside of Ricky. Now, they added Culpepper, and with today's medicine and technology, I'm sure he'll be fine when he comes back. Unfortunately, the Dolphins are a team on the rise. Harrington would be a great backup. Hate em if you want, but this team made the most of the talent they had last season, as well as didn't give up all year. That, in my book, is at least admirable.

Gentlemen, your 2006-2007 Buffalo Jills!

While no doubt we still have small market talent here, at least we now have a handful of cuties for the first time in a long time. Getting better, but still not exactly upper echelon talent. -
LMAO - This is perhaps the greatest thing.....

That's what my friend and I were talking about. Can you imagine how long it took some dumbass to sit there and get that stuff right? I mean, the runners in exact bases, foul balls, and even the bullpen pitchers only showing Stanley and Hurst. Just like real life. Had to take dude like 2 yrs to get all of that. Even to just have runners on and have Buckner boot the ball. Un-fuggin-real. I was amazed when I saw this. -
UN-FUGGIN-BELIEVABLE. Brings back memories of baseball, nintendo, everything. I loved this. Make sure your speakers are on. 1986 Sox vs. Mets World Series, on nintendo - AND PERFECT!

I haven't really watched basketball that much since the 80's Lakers OR Celtics would have beat the piss out of all of these teams.....however, you lecture Bills fans on how they know nothing about Kobe, and you make this statement? Ummm, oooooooooook. And we're out of touch?
-
The Bills fact of the day was this: No Bills player ever has posted consecutive 1,000 yard receiving seasons. I would have never thought that.
-
Besides sitting Losman last year, this was the other little tidbit that really pissed me off. Gates had a terrific pre-season last year and didn't get to touch the ball ONCE last year. At least I don't think he did. Yet, we have Shaud Williams out there, where, if you blow on him he falls down. Man, I hated Mularkey. I'm not saying Gates is the second coming, but it would've been nice to get some touches, especially when your team was floundering at 5-11.
-
catch on with Dallas last season, my ass would be in mini-camp. I mean, come on. I would think he would be trying to RE-prove himself, and I would think he has a lot to prove. Yet, he is only one of 4 guys on the roster not to attend. Yeah, real smart Peerless. Real fuggin smart. It's a three day thing. Three days.

LOL, I'm just playing devils advocate here to have some fun? I'm impartial here, but if I had to rank the first round losers in terms of who the best of the losing bunch was, I would say the Sabres beat the 2nd worst team of the bunch behind NJ beating the Rangers. The Flyers aren't exactly that good of a hockey team. The Canadiens have some nice young talent, and have size and speed. They are up and coming, as opposed to built wrong for today's NHL and slow like the Flyers. The Canes lost their first two at home and came back and won four in a row which is impressive. You guys better hope the Sabres aren't losing that blue collar, plugger mentality, like the fans seem to have, or you'll be outta there in a quick five games. Here's hoping you guys get Ottawa the hell outta there though, but c'mon, the Sabes are the lowest remaining seed of the 4 teams left for a reason. I don't think anything changed that thinking in anyone's mind after one round of the playoffs. Buffalo and Carolina are verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry similar though. And close in talent. If Carolina wouldn't have lost Erik Cole though, they would be right up there with New Jersey and Ottawa. Too bad for them. Good for you guys. Good Luck Sabes....it's always nice when a Canadian team gets eliminated from the playoffs. Here's hoping it happens again.
-
Right on. NJ is the best team in the league right now, and it's almost scary as to how far. Carolina can be beat. I actually went to two games in Raleigh. Their games are very rowdy, it's fun, but it's amazing they won that series. They were outskated the entire series but created better chances than the Habs. It was a weird series. I would say that 70% of the series was played in Carolina's end, but the Canes were able to win. NJ though, is a different beast, which makes saying the Sabes - Ottawa series is basically the cup final is totally ignorant. Being a Bills season ticket holder though, I wish the Sabres luck, but I think they are just as much an underdog right now as Carolina is to NJ. Despite NJ's lower seed than the Canes.
-
Ummmmmmmm, OK, despite the fact that New Jersey is on absolute fire right now, and Carolina, the #2 seed has won 4 games in a row. As good as Carolina is though, New Jersey looks like the cup team they were back in the day. They are the best team in hockey at the moment. Let me just add that New Jersey has now won 15 games in a row.

Then why did Couch go down the field A TON more than Holcomb? Dude seriously, while numbers dont tell the whole truth, try to use some fact in your statements. Couch went down the field A TON more than Holcomb on the same team, in the same year, with the same players, coaching staff, fans and uniform colors. It's a FACT. -

Yeah because, for god's sakes, why would we compare years where both QB's played on terrible 5-11 teams, in the same number of starts, and similar cicrumstances. BOTH teams sucked in the compared years. And the most telling stats are the DOWNFIELD numbers of completed passes over 20 and 40 yards. Not only does Volek DWARF Holcomb, Couch also dwarfed Holcomb on the same team. Hell, Couch outperformed him. Volek's answer in Tennessee to CLevelands Willie Green was RB Antowain Smith to start the year. Remember him? And FYI....Holcomb was 2-6 in games started for the Browns in 2003 while his offenses averaged 16 pts per game. For the same team, Couch's offense averaged 17 pts per game. Volek was also 2-6 while his offenses averaged 24 pts per game. Now, if that is "performing well" for Holcomb, well OK, your standards for an NFL QB must be pretty low. Now, I didn't use Holcomb's stats the year he had the unreal playoff game vs. Pittsburgh simply beacause he started a grand total of TWO games that year, and only appeared in 4. His playoff game was against a Steeler team that ranked 22nd in defense during the regular season, and 27th vs. the pass. The same Steeler team that was also torched the following week by Tennessee for 34 points. The same Steeler team that gave up 30 or more points 6 times that regular season and twice more in the playoffs. Anything else I can disprove? And no, a few teams courted Volek to be their starting QB, but HE CHOSE to stay in Tennessee. Dumb choice. Again, I'm not advocating that the Bills take this guy now, but back then, you betcha he was worth a shot. -

And again, we have an example of making stuff up without knowing facts. In 2003, Kelly Holcomb QB'ed the 5-11 Browns appearing in 10 games, starting 8 of them. In 2004 Billy Volek QB'ed the 5-11 Tennessee Titans appearing in 10 games, starting 8 of them. In the same set of circumstances, Volek's numbers DWARF Mr. Safe Kelly Holcomb's. In similar circumstances....... Mr. Safe (Holcomb) completed 63.9% of his passes Volek completed 61.1% Mr. Safe threw for 1,797 Yards Volek threw for 2486 yards Mr. Safe threw 10 TD's and 12 INT's Volek threw 18 TD's and 10 INT's Mr. Safe completed 12 passes over 20 yards, and 1 over 40 Volek completed 34 passes over 20 yards, and 5 over 40 Holcomb's QB rating was 74.6 Volek's was 87.1 Just so we can disprove the "Titans offense goes downfield untruth". Tim Couch, who also has no arm, in the same year as Holcomb, and playing for the same team as Holcomb, the Browns, threw for over 1300 yards in 100 less attempts than Holcomb. In 100 less attempts, Couch had 13 passes completed over 20 yards, and 5 over 40. Couch had a better QB rating than Holcomb, and threw for more TD's than INT's in the same year. So, I guess the Browns offense was more downfield when Couch was in there further proving that HOlcomb is Mr Safe underneath. Volek is by far and above better than Holcomb-type QB's. Craig Nall doens't even compare. Volek is a very good QB, who again, made a pansy ass decision to not become a starter for another team when his window opened. And again, I'm glad he's getting what a chickenshit deserves. -

Frank Reich was about 90 years old when he left Buffalo to become a starter. And Volek's and Holcomb's numbers aren't even close. When you look at Holcomb's numbers in Cleveland, it is obvious by his yardage numbers that he was Mr. safe pass up there also. Volek's numbers actually show a Qb who just entered his prime and was putting the ball downfield successfully. This is clearly shown by dwarfing Holcombs yardage numbers in the same number of starts in two different seasons. Again, while I'm glad Volek is getting hosed in Tennessee, because he was afraid to come to Buffalo, he has most definately shown skills that he could have become a more than capable starting QB in the NFL. He actually influenced games, while guys like Holcomb took what the game gave him. -

I mean, do you people make stuff up or what? Are some of you trashing Volek because you don't watch alot of football and don't know his name? Seriously, Volek has performed very well when called upon in Tennessee. He's actually a really good QB, who made a horrible decision to stay in Tennessee and is now paying the price. He's not a one game wonder. He's has seen a good bit of time on the field and has performed well. Enough to definately warrant a shot from another team, and certainly 1000% more than say a Rob Johnson had accomplished. Volek should feel like a loser though, because he is a good QB, who never took his chance because of bad advice by his agent. He's not RJ, or Craig Nall, or anyone. He's a tad more accomplished, who was a chickenshit to take his shot. Like I said, because of shunning the Bills, I hope he rots in Tennessee. However..... His career numbers..... 24 games, 10 starts Completed 60.3% of his passes (517 attempts) 26 TD's - 13 INT's 86.7 QB Rating The one year he started 8 games, his numbers...... Completed 61.1% of his passes in 8 games Threw for 2486 yards....in pretty much half of a season 18 TD's - 10 INT's 87 plus QB rating Worth a shot at taking him back then? You betcha. -

I hear you. The Tidewater area in Virginia could easily handle football. People would come from Richmond to Williamsburg to the area all around Va Beach. It's just not a recognized city because of actually being about 7 cities all right next to each other. Once you get just south of Williamsburg though and hit Newport News, that whole area is a population mecca. I also would venture to guess that there would most likely be about 10,000 or so season ticket holders, at least, from the Richmond and W'Burg areas. Hampton Roads isn't poor at all, but it definately has it's ghetto's in certain spots. Norfolk, and some places in Hampton and Newport News. But, what city doesn't? It does have a military population too, however, Virginia's economy, in general is so strong that this area is going to be a boon for the first professional league that taps into this market. Comparing it to Buffalo, the Richmond area, which is a growing city, and very nice around it's suburbs, would serve as the teams Rochester so to speak. The only difference is that Richmonders are in much better shape financially. I'm telling ya, this area is untapped in terms of resources. I thought about the Montreal scenario too, but I don't think the NFL would go there because Montreal is generally an un-friendly US city in alot of cases. And I agree, Mexico City would be too poor. I just wasn't sure about Portland. Don't know much about it. It's all guessing, but there's no doubt the NFL could pull off 8 more teams to make all of the divisions at 5 teams each. The popularity of the league is ungodly right now. Also, this type of plan would require re-alignment to make it work too. As much as the old timers like Buffalo vs. Miami, nothing would suit the league better than to have Buffalo - Cleveland - Pittsburgh and the new Toronto franchise in the division together along with maybe Detroit I guess. But the Buffalo - Pittsburgh - Cleveland thing would be the best rivalry division in sports after a few years. -

Or maybe some people have forgotten that Rob Johnson performed well in ONE game and then came here. Volek is a solid player that has performed at a top notch level in many games. Volek made the most assanine choice ever by going back to Tennessee. He is a good QB. I also wanted Volek badly, but since he was afraid to step up and be a starter I hope the hell he rots in Tennessee. He gets what the hell he deserves. -
Should the Bills do splainin re: draftin Butler?
Lv-Bills replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would anyone owe anyone an explanation? This thing was beat to death in Virginia as Tech fans went round and round with Virginia fans on talk radio. Butler was scrutinized by everyone and was punished by UVA. Before the incident, Butler was about as model of a student that there was. He was a great kid, never got in trouble, and I believe was a great student if I remember correctly. Butler was the team spokesman at many charity events as well as community service. When he was suspended, he admitted he did it out of frustration, apologized to the player he cut, and said he embarassed himself. Butler admitted he made a mistake. He also was locked in a heated battle all day with the kid he chopped. It was a retaliation in which he was the one caught. He was embarassed, everyone has moved on, and really, it should be no concern of anyone. It was taken care of already. If he does something like it again, then maybe you look back. Anyone else who plans to exploit the situation is reaching and is just looking to stir the pot. -

Buccaneers | Mike Williams confirms he won't attend Bucs mini-camp Tue, 2 May 2006 09:06:42 -0700 Mike Williams, of the Jacksonville Jaguars, reportedly called the Tampa Bay Bucaneers coaching staff to let them know he won't be attending the teams post draft mini-camp. Williams confirmed that internet reports had him losing his starting job to Ross Verba, an un-yet signed Free Agent. Williams showed displeasure at the possibility of being fined for missing "voluntary" workouts despite not even being on Tampa Bay's roster. -
Not too much.....see lemmings from 1999-2006 and just reverse their roles.
