Bills Think Nelson Can Become A Great Blocker
Original Byrd Man replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Aye mate. Me thinks ye hit the cask of rum a might to heavy today. -
I agree! This schedule is about as hard as it could get. I feel 8-8 would be a surprise, 9-7 would be a miracle.

A sad end to a great player, politician, and more importantly person. RIP Jack.

Bills to run no-huddle next year?
Original Byrd Man replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While we have backs that can catch, no one comes near the ability of Thomas. Some of the catches I watched him make were incredible. One handed stabs 40 yards down the field. Laying out for another. He had no equal. We have all heard that ML was a recieving threat in college but I haven't seen anything to get excited about yet. Hopefully he is just saving it for the right time. -
Bills to run no-huddle next year?
Original Byrd Man replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The real key to the success of the no huddle is letting you QB call his own plays, from a shortened play list. People always claim the league figured out the no huddle after the first year, but It was really a case of the coaching staff slowing down the sequence of plays to be able to call them from the sideline which allowed defenses time to substitue. The idea was to give our D more time to rest as we were scoring so quickly, or if we went three out the D was back on the field in about 15 minutes real time. To be truly sucessful you need an aggressive, gambling D that can get right back off the field. If you give up a score you have to rely on the O to get it back. And if your D is agressive that leads to turnovers and you O is in the endzone again or the D scores. If you don't believe me compare games from 1990 and 1991. In 90 we were running plays every 15-20 seconds. In 91 it was every 35-40. Huge difference. Also you have to be solid against the run, otherwise you have long drives by the opponent and their D gets rested. I would love to see it reborn. -
Sorry if this has been posted. Just curious about anyone's point of view after attending the event. Wanted to go but had to work.

Butler is actually a RT but was moved inside because of the need for a guard. He should be fine at LT. I am a little worried about Walker at LT. Maybe Levi Jones will be moving here. I also wouldn't mind if the Bills took a look at Jonas Jennings. When healthy he is still a very good LT, or atleast was. I really like the upgrade to the middle of the OL.

While there has been a ton of speculation over who the #11 pick will be, I would love for the Bills to trade down if possible. Maybe some one looking for a QB will want to move. If not, I hope Curry falls to us at 11, as some are now predicting may happen, though I doubt it. If we can't move down from 11 then maybe at 28. I think this is a year where more is better, as there are very few can't miss prospects. I can only watch the first part of round 1 as I have to work tonight but you can be sure I'll be looking under the tree tomorrow morning. Go BILLS!!!! This draft could make or break written all over it.

I've banged this drum on other threads. For all who think peters should have sucked it up and taken one for the team until his most recent agreement played out let me ask you this. If you got a promotion at work would you not rightly expect a raise commensurate with the position??? Now take into account a player at you old job of lesser stature is making more money than you. Tell me you wouldn't be pissed. The one thing I have against Peters is reporting out of shape and unmotivated, but the Bills are responsible for this transgression as much as Peters for allowing the situation to develop. What did they do with the money they saved from what should have been JP's new contract???? Nothing I can see.
-
We really need to get over the McKinney thing. He has been servicable, but Minnie was said to be interested in Peters so the could switch Mc K to RT as they are not all that thrilled with him at Left. Obviously he was better than MW, but he hasn't set the world on fire either

My Thoughts on Russ Brandon
Original Byrd Man replied to Kenwick's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Also I'm not so sure Brandon has that much to do with contracts. I think that is Overdorf's job. With that being said, I still think the team should have offered to re do a deal for JP after they promoted him to LT. When you get a promotion a raise should accompany it, contract or no contract. -
Drafting Offensive Lineman
Original Byrd Man replied to bluenews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The team has seemed to do better with free agents for the O line. Although RB was a perenial probowler, he and Fina were never considered more than above average. And we won't even mention MW. Other than Bruce have had a lot of klinkers on the D line as well. Maybe the answer is in numbers. If you draft 5 Oline men 1 or 2 may turn out to be good. -
kffl reports de, or olb in next weeks draft
Original Byrd Man replied to lightning21's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought olb until I read they are shopping Kelso. If he is traded we may see them target DL. I think OL or TE if Pettigrew is still there at 28. -
I have a Man-crush on Pettigrew
Original Byrd Man replied to Maddog69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm just not that sure he is a difference maker. He is not that fast and Fine is a Fine blocker, so what is the gain??? -
A sad situation for the Bills Nation
Original Byrd Man replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Reid wanted him so bad why didn't he sign him as an undrafted FA like the Bills did??? Hind sight is such a wonderful thing. I was going to bet the house on Pitsburg winning the superbowl in 09. I bet Andy would have too! Ha! Ha! Ha! -
How do YOU grade Buffalo's off-season, thus far?
Original Byrd Man replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMHO the only reason Jauron is still here is, he had already signed an extension, and Ralph wasn't about to swallow the $$$ loss, and TO was brought in to put people in the seats after the Jauron debackle. This team, like it or not, is rebuilding. -
OK...here goes

I had a similar response in another post. I want to think they had an alternative in mind when the pulled the trigger. -
Peters Trade: Board reaction
Original Byrd Man replied to KD in CA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. Although I wish we had taken a 3rd this year, instead of a 4th with a 6th or 7th next. Only time will show who if anyone got the better of the deal. -
Sheffler is a very good down field threat as a reciever, but he is a Matador as a blocker. Ole' Not saying he wouldn't look great here but the FO is looking for complete TE's from what I've heard.

JP Losman for High School Guidance Consular
Original Byrd Man replied to uticaclub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll bet he can at least spell Councelor. Maybe he can help you with your career plan. Try practicing this. Paper or plastic. Or maybe Do you want fries with that. Then again what can one expect from a Utica Club fan. -
Informed Speculation - Buffalo Rumblings
Original Byrd Man replied to BillsNYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why? Because he signed a contract to play RT 3 years ago then was asked to play LT where he was voted to the probowl, and is considered one of the top LT's in the league and still has much room to improve???? The man deserves a raise. I would have rather he not sit out, but all the Bills needed to do was renegotiate to get him into camp. The Bills got him cheap for three years. It's time to pay up. I firmly believe a contract is a contract. But if you get a promotion ie RT to LT, some adjustment, $$$$$, should be made. The FO instead decided to play hardball. And you wonder why FA's don't land here! -
I whole heartedly agree. I was astounded by the lack of AFL stars in the HOF. The players that did make it for the most part "legitimized" their careers by 1 or 2 years after the merger. To call it the profootball HOF is a misnomer. What they really mean is the NFL HOF. It is truly sad to see the accomplishments of so many greats unrecognized because of the arrogance of the writers that covered the NFL and refused to give credit where it is due. I can only hope they will rectify this injustice in the future.

My vote goes to Gonzo. He is the real deal, while TS is injury prone and not inclined to block anyone.
