1. I love the Peters move. He has been playing very well and it makes sense to have your best and most athletic tackle protecting the Qb's blind side. I had been wondering when they were going to do this.

    815436

Agreed. If Peters plays to potential, we should see less of this blindside sack-fumble stuff.

Does anyone know who is filling the RG position? Honestly, I didn't think Reyes was that bad to be benched. I'd rather see CV on the bench.

ETA: The updated depth chart has CV at RG. Maybe I'm missing something, but I just haven't seen that much from Chris.

  2. I think that we really should think of this season as JP's rookie season. The turnaround from last year has been tremendous. I think many established, veteran QBs would struggle if given a new coach and offensive coordinator running a new offense with new plays.

Add in the fact that the team lost last year's #1 WR, there's a new center snapping Losman the ball, a new starting LG and TE, and serious questions as to the ablility of the WRs behind Evans, and I think that it's really tough to evaluate Losman.

I do know that this team has appreciable problems in many areas. Devoting yet another high draft pick to QB (either through the draft or by trade) is not the answer, given that it doesn't address these problem areas, and it also doesn't solve the QB problem, because we will then have an actual rookie behind center.

  3. I think Josh Reed has earned a roster spot. Also I really don't think we need Freeney, he's a big money sack specialist that takes himself out of too many plays by just running downfield. Also, teams have been able to successfully game plan for him... he's no longer the most productive DE on the Colts.

  4. Built To Spill - You In Reverse

What are you favorite "sleeper" albums that restore your faith in recorded music?

    809925

I'm a big BTS fan. I just saw them in DC at the 9:30 club, great show. I know they played Buffalo either shortly before or after the DC concert. Anyways, you in Reverse wouldn't be my pick of their best album, but you can't really go wrong with any of them.

I like a lot of different music, and don't listen to the radio, so I don't know what bands I like are obscure and which aren't. I do know that Anthony Hamilton has put out a couple of the best soul albums in years, I first saw him on the Chappelle show. Reminds me a lot of Bill Withers.

  5. Back on topic, I don't think that too many tears will be shed over the loss of Air America. Obviously it's problem was lack of listeners, and I actually think that PastaJoe had it partly right.

The failure wasn't neccessarily because of the ideology of the station (I think it's safe to say that there are approximately equivalent numbers of libs and cons in the states, therefore there theoretically should be enough listeners to support "liberal radio"), but rather because there is simply less of a market for liberal punditry, for whatever reason.

I lean left, and I know I personally don't care to listen to other people spouting off on politics, especially when only one side of the story is presented. Frankly, I don't know why anyone would be entertained by that sort of thing.

  6. Not a fantasy follower, but saw his stats for yesterday's game in Peter King's column, then looked at his yearly stats. His last two games:

    19-123-0 TD

    32-178-1 TD

For the season, he's averaging 95 yds/game. I thought he was a bum?

  7. That's amazing.  Harrington from what I've heard from everyone played a good game.  I only saw bits & pieces but I have to be missing something:  They scored 10 points on offense and his 2 int's set up NE's only 2 TD's.  Unless his teamates were fumbling & dropping passes all over the place it sounds like he's just the beneficiary of low expectations, or, just being "the backup guy".

    799946

I saw the game (live in Baltimore, don't have cable, didn't want to spend money at a bar). Joey definitely looked like a step up from Culpepper, despite the stats. He really only made one bad decision all game, and that was the first INT. The second INT was just sort of a bad throw that Welker popped into the air. It landed right in the chest of a fin DB that looked surprised at the whole thing - kind of fluky.

Anyways, Joey was much quicker than Cpep in getting the ball out and as a result, was sacked only once. He played a game-manager type game and barring those two bad plays, did pretty well at it. Two caveats: the New England secondary isn't all that great, but in Joey's defense, he also hasn't had as many reps with the first team as Culpepper.

Either way, I'm not afraid of the Dolphin's offense. There is no explosiveness. And we must must must throw deep on Will Allen. He had another big pass interference penalty, that led to a score.

  8. Nice post.  I agree with your grades.

One other thing:  where is the play action?

    795213

Great question! The play action pass is a great weapon for a team that runs the ball as much as the Bills do, and even if just attempted, will tend to back defenses off a bit. I missed the last game, but I don't recall a single play action pass in the first 3 games. If I'm mistaken, please someone correct me.

  9. My mouth is just salivating at the thought of having Freeney on our defense.

    794800

I like the guys we have over Freeney. All our ends are solid in run support. Freeney just runs straight downfield. He's good at what he does, but he'll be expensive, and right now our problem is stopping the run on D, and he can't help us much there (5 tackles in 4 games this season, 0 sacks).

Honestly, I think we have a solid core, and should continue to build through the draft, and use free agency to get solid role players rather than expensive big names.

  10. I don't think this is so bad of a snub. He was probably at the Ravens game, and he got to talk to Newsome. Plus the Ravens are a 4-0 team, they are going to get more pub than the Bills. All the other safeties got just a sentence.

For some positive Bills press, check out what Gregg Easterbrook wrote about Jason Peters in today's TMQ column.

  11. Best Block: The best single block of the day came from Buffalo's Jason Peters, a third-year undrafted gent from Arkansas, who is becoming one of the league's elite offensive linemen. A common fault of offensive linemen is making the first or primary block, then standing around watching the play rather than finding someone else to block. On what would become Peerless Price's 8-yard touchdown reception off a bubble screen, Price was all the way back at the 15 and seemingly doomed to take a big loss when Peters, rather than standing around watching, drilled a Minnesota defender with a perfect secondary block.

Some more Buffalo tidbits from the column:

Stat of the Week No. 4: Buffalo has allowed six of six fourth-down conversion attempts by opponents.

When Toyota Becomes the Official Car of the Detroit Lions, Feel Free to Panic: How bad are things for General Motors? Toyota is now the "Official/Exclusive Car and Truck of the Buffalo Bills." The Buffalo area was once a G.M. manufacturing hub.

Preposterous Punt Watch: Trailing 7-3 in the second quarter, Minnesota punted on fourth-and-2 from the Buffalo 49. Trailing 17-6 in the fourth quarter, Minnesota punted on fourth-and-2 from the Buffalo 49. The Vikings lost by five points.

We're All Professionals Here: Minnesota launched a 9-yard punt. Buffalo lost yardage on its possession, then replied with a 22-yard punt.

Stop Me Before I Blitz Again! No. 2: In the first 56 minutes of the Buffalo-Minnesota game, the Bills' defense held the Vikings to two field goals, eight first downs and 226 yards of offense. In the final four minutes, the Bills allowed a touchdown, six first downs and 104 yards of offense, Buffalo barely winning when a Minnesota player dropped what would have been a touchdown pass in the closing seconds. What changed between the first 56 minutes and the last four minutes? The Bills began blitzing like crazy.

I didn't see the game, comments?

  12. Ive been looking so my brother in NC can hear the game...anyway, looks like NFL network has exclusive rights to internet broadcasts....sorry...but its going to cost money

hey i realized i'm an idiot: look at the pinned thread at the top... links to WHAM and WGR online. tell your brother!

  13. If you have problems motivating yourself, then you need to pick an activity that actually sounds fun to you.  IMHO, running/walking on a treadmill is the most boring and mundane activity ever invented.  Go outside and walk or run.  Play a sport.  You work at Circuit City right?  Be like Steve Carell in 40-year old virgin and ride your bike to work.  Then you don't even have to think of it as a workout.  It's your transportation to work.

From personal experience, I find it is a lot easier to stay in the routine if I force myself to go to the gym before work in the morning.  At first it's hard to wake up, but once you get in the routine it's easy.  Plus, you'll sleep a lot better and be energized throughout the day.

I want to second this. Make it fun. Competitive sports are always fun. 0:)
