  1. Obviously our pick will be Malcolm Jenkins - CB, Ohio State.
  2. Some names that may come up as UDFAs: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/...best_available/
  3. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...ings/index.html Of course it's the offseason, and I'm optimisitic just about every offseason, but I don't think this guy is too far off. The major question will be Stroud's health. If he's back to near 100%, I can't see how the D-line isn't immensely improved. The DB depth gives Buffalo something to try to answer the Patriot's attack with, and will hopefully serve to maintain continuity on special teams. And lastly, Edwards has that end zone threat we've all been clamoring for.
  4. They get caught too though.
  5. I'm with you. Clearly something needed to change. Largely due to miscalculations and poor planning, the occupation was not going well. There were those (McCain being among them) that from the start were saying what many in the military were saying: that more boots were needed on the ground. I was opposed to the war from the beginning, but agreed with McCain that a surge in military presence would be a first step towards quelling the sectarian violence that was preventing political progress. Unfortunately, I think that though the surge played a part in the reduction in violence, we are seeing that it was largely diplomacy and politics (the Mahdi cease-fire) that had the largest role in the relative peace that occurred post-surge. Additionally, the political progress has still not been made. So in the end, I think I agree with the Democrats' position of now using the removal of troops as a bargaining chip with which to force the Iraqis' hands in actually putting forth real effort to secure the nation on their own, and to move the political side of it forward. To me, the only alternative solution is to further enhance our presence in Iraq, to effectively crush the opposition and leave no excuses for the Iraqi government. I don't think the benefits outweigh the costs in this scenario.
  6. What the media presents as science and what scientists actually think often are not the same. http://www.wmconnolley.org.uk/sci/iceage/
  7. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070405/pl_nm/..._congressman_dc More Congressional visitors in Syria. It's an epidemic!
  8. “It’s not that I dislike many people. It’s just that I don’t like many people.” this one makes sense.
  9. this is the main point that some folks are missing. are the bills, a rebuilding franchise, at a stage where they can afford to both give up a draft pick and use that roster spot for a player that will command a very high salary? i think the answer is no.
  10. I love when partisans call other people partisan.
  11. A few thoughts: 1. she's going as part of a bipartisan delegation, acting on behalf of the bipartisan Iraq study group's recommendations for enhanced diplomacy with Iraq's neighbors. 2. the White House, for whatever reason, did not see fit to publicly criticize a group of Republican lawmakers (Reps. Frank Wolf (R-VA), Joseph R. Pitts (R-PA) and Robert Aderholt (R-AL)) that visited Syria and Assad two days before Pelosi. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nationwor...world-headlines 3. the Isreali President has come out and defended Pelosi's trip. http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idU...mp;pageNumber=2 if this is "political assassination," or an attempt to "undermine" the President, then Pelosi alone is not guilty.
  12. IMO this Op-Ed was pretty biased and unsubstantive. Johnny Coli did a good job breaking it down.
  13. Aren't there any BLUE COLLAR cornerbacks in the draft?
  14. dead on. seems like some folks have a misconception about the enormous role that government funding plays in biomedical research. the vast majority of the basic science in biology is funded through the NIH, and this funding goes primarily directly towards the research - providing for the human resources (graduate students, postdocs), as well as the equipment necessary to perform the research. too many folks see these big grant numbers and think that researchers are getting rich off what they do. when a new confocal microscope costs close to $1 million, grants need to be big. the thing about government funding, the NIH, and peer review that a lot of people don't seem to understand is that it is one example of a government program that WORKS. private funding towards research in academia tends to be geared more towards the physical - donors want their names on research buildings or wings or they want to see their money used for high tech equipment. less often do you see this type of money going directly to research or to scholarships for training. in the absence of public funding, you have universities with shiny new research facilities with no people to work in them, or with people with no money to perform their research in them. furthermore, peer review works best when there are a reasonable amount of funds in respect to researchers requesting those funds. when there are 100s of good applicants, but only 10 grants, it is unreasonable to expect a fair and impartial awards system. when the system is flush with funds, more "risky" projects - the kinds that lead to major breakthroughs like RNAi - become awardable, and more "risky" researchers (i.e. young, not yet established scientists) also become funded. a couple of recent viewpoints on this topic from the people that do the research, and do it well: Andy Fire and Roger Kornberg, Nobel laureates: http://mednews.stanford.edu/fire/fire-funding.html Paul Nurse, Nobel laureate: http://newswire.rockefeller.edu/?page=engine&id=458
  15. wow. didn't realize it was THAT bad.
  16. Just goes to show that run defense should be the primary focus of the rest of the offseason. Turnovers will come with more experience and an improved pass rush (which will improve if the defense doesn't have to constantly stay home for fear of the run). I expect Marv and Dick to have done their research on these FA linemen, and for the offense to take great strides this season. So if the run D improves, Buffalo could be a playoff team.
  17. good post. i plan on returning to Western NY as well. This is key for me. I'd rather have a community of family than the highest possible paying job.
  18. In that scenario, I'd rather see the Bills grab the best available CB, which appears to be Leon Hall, taken by GB at 16
  19. I'd rather we stay put. We can draft a solid RB in the second without the hefty contract that Turner will require. And then we can keep our first and use it for the best available defensive player, be it a DT, LB, or CB.
  20. Mel Gibson Syndrome. Course, he'll just say he was drunk and didn't mean a word of it.
  21. Congrats. UB is a good school, so you are starting off on the right foot (I graduated in '01). Hope you get into your first choice.
  22. that's the key. a lot of people lambasted last year's draft, and it turned out pretty well. marv and juaron have a plan, and will pick the guy that best fits into that plan.
  23. wow. i like what i just read. good to hear about a star that's not a primadonna.
