  1. I'm in Philly and they were whining about how long they'd gone since a championship before the Phillies won last year. But it's nothing, nothing compared to the thirst that Buffalo fans have.
  2. I had left the Notre Dame - Houston Cotton Bowl in 1979, when Joe Montana led the greatest Notre Dame comeback ever. No way was I going to leave that Bills game! I went to the Bills game by myself. Couldn't believe it wasn't sold out, and nobody wanted to go. What are the odds I'd be at my two favorite teams' best comebacks ever? I hit the jackpot on those.
  3. I enjoy the clean look of the screen, without scores, promos for upcoming t.v. shows, etc.
  4. A big loss for the Bills and Buffalo. I selected him over Kelly as the Bills' quarterback on their 50 Year team, by virtue of the two championships. I feel sorry for Bills fans who never had the chance to experience winning the ultimate game of the season. Losing him and Saban so close to each other really hurts for us old-time Bills fans. He also gave one of the best speeches I'd ever heard, at my high school graduation. SDS, can we get a picture of him and Lou Saban up on the TBD banner?
  5. I saw a post, but now can't find it, about how the OL performed better in terms of not giving up sacks during the games Peters was not playing. Anyone know what those stats were?
  6. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned...Jim Kelly. Yes, Kelly. Think about it. Do you think that if you put Dufek, Kofler, Darragh or any of the others mentioned behind the 1990-94 offensive line, with those receivers and running backs and those special teams and defense, that they would have gone 0 for 4 in the Super Bowl? Highly doubtful. Just know how to play within your means, and utilize your best weapons wisely. Ask Jeff Hostetler.
  7. Any long suffering Bills fan should know by now that the play call made no difference. The football gods are in charge, and they are not looking with favor on our Bills. If Turk had called for a handoff to Lynch, JP would have muffed the handoff. If he had called for a run to Jackson, he would have had the ball knocked out while he was struggling for the extra yard. If the pass had been completed, someone would have grabbed the ball out of his hands. So, what have you done to put this curse on the Bills? Here's my contribution. Right after the Home Run Throwback, I swore in front of a group on a church mission trip that I would no longer be a professional sports fan but just a "casual observer." I broke that promise as soon as the next season started, and we have not made the playoffs since.
  8. Sorry if this question was asked earlier in the week. Does anyone know if the Bills set a record last week for biggest point drop from one game to another, from 54 points in one week to 3 in the next? I figure the best chance that it wasn't the Bills would be if Chicago scored fewer than 22 points the next week (it would be the first week of the next season) after beating Washington 73-0 in a championship game back in the 40s.
  9. As a Notre Dame, Bills, and Sabres fan, these past few weeks have been agony. But as a UB alumnus, the Bulls have been my saving grace this fall. At the beginning of the year, if you said that by week 10 UB would be ahead of Virginia, Notre Dame, Auburn, Tennessee, Purdue, Michigan, and UCLA in the RPI, would you have believed it?
  10. Anyone listen to the UB game? What a great comeback. You get the sense that the team just knows how to win.
  11. Already this weekend the Bruins beat the Sabres, and we Irish fans are mourning because Boston College beat Notre Dame. Please, Bills, beat the (Boston) Patriots!
  12. That's a cute commercial, but it's not the one I was referring to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIIwxfEhvFU
  13. Anybody notice the NFL has a commercial where the song in the background is "Every Day is Like Sunday"? Kind of a strange choice--the artist is Morrissey, a whiny but brilliant British pop artist, formerly of the Smiths (the commercial uses a cover version, probably to make it sound more macho); and the lyrics aren't exactly descriptive of the NFL's product. Or are they? Everyday is like Sunday Everyday is silent and grey Hide on the promenade Etch a postcard : How I dearly wish I was not here In the seaside town ...that they forgot to bomb Come, come, come - nuclear bomb
  14. It doesn't get any better, speaking as a 51 year old. When I was held up at gunpoint back in 1991, I remember thinking "I only want to see Buffalo win one Super Bowl before I die." Still here, still waiting. Living across the river from Philly, I almost went to the Phillies' parade on Friday. They said there were 1-2 million people there. And they had won a World Series as recently as 1980. 28 years is nothing if you're a Bills' fan.
  15. Just so you know, Marshawn is second in Bills history in yards per game (80.3) The only Bill with more yards per game is O.J. (90.9) As stated before, young runners tend to have higher ypg averages, since later in their careers their yardage usually decreases.
  16. As mentioned last week, he is now #11 on the Bills all-time receiving list. He and Lee Evans are closing in on Frank Lewis.
  17. He's also quietly moved up to 11th on the all-time Bills receiving list http://www.pro-football-reference.com/team...r-receiving.htm ahead of Riemersma, Cribbs, OJ, Beebe, Bass, J.D. Hill, and Lofton.
  18. I was somewhat surprised to find that among all Bills running backs, Marshawn is currently second only to OJ in rushing yards per game. That could be due in part to the fact that as running backs age, their yards per game tends to decrease. I'd never seen this stats site before: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/buf/ but it's very user-friendly. You can sort stats according to all different categories (per game, per attempt, etc.). It looks like the stats are current through the Jacksonville game in week 2.
  19. That makes four of us. Or is it three? No, I think it's four!
  20. You've got it. Prayers are on the way.
  21. You're right. Maybe all-time best memories?
  22. Wondering what peoples' 5 all-time best Bills moments/events were, and 5 all-time worst. My best: 1. 1965 Championship game 2. 1964 Championship game 3. Playoff win over Houston, biggest comeback ever 4. 51-3 playoff win over Raiders 5. going to 4 straight Super Bowls Honorable mention: O.J. gets 2,000 yards My worst: 1. Wide right 2. losing 4 straight Super Bowls 3. 0 for 70s vs. Miami 4. Home-run Throwback 5. 1966 loss to K.C., preventing trip to first AFL-NFL Championship Honorable mention: O.J.'s fall from grace
  23. 80-1 were the odds against the Sabres winning the Stanley Cup at the start of last season. I'd be happy if the Bills made it as deep into the playoffs.
