The Bills will be playing againt the world in this one (a fired up Cowboys team, the refs in mea culpa mode, the national talking heads poised to say they're posers, the wives trying to get everyone to sit down at the dinner table...)
In addition to Prince, U2 and Talking Heads, that were already mentioned, you had Metallica, Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, the Pretenders, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
There was still a lot of good music being created...
What changed was people's tastes. The 80s were about dance/new wave. A repudiation of the 70s rock, which meant the bands you listed were not selling like they had previously. Some tried to change with the times, some didn't.
The return in popularity for 60s and 70s "classic rock" is as much a nostalgia / aging baby boomer thing as anything. The same thing will happen (in fact, is happening) with 80s music now...
Just finished season 2.
Love the show, but hope they get a better script for season 3. The plot holes and laugh out loud moments (if you're familiar with the characters in the books) were pretty bad, IMO. Krasinski and Pierce do a great job, so its an enjoyable series. But IMO, they're very different from the Ryan and Greer that Clancy brought to life...
Not so much the four man rush, which was about the same as all year.
What was different was the commitment to blizing (and faking the blitz) of the LBs. That's the most they've done that this year as they obviously had no respect for the Fin's O-line and running game and dared Fitz to beat them...
