New NFL substance policy: no more testing for pot

What does it say about Clowney that they prefer Ngakoue (who'll make just as much $$$)? We should be all in on Yannick if that Seahawks trade offer is legit...
-
Lol! I'm not hold my breath on Clowney coming to Hooterville, regardless of the $$$ or if we give him the key to the city...
-
Don't bend over in the shower, Yannick...
-
We can do better than that! Swap #22 for #49 and throw in a third this year (#86) and a third next year...

Didn't realize they still had teachers in Ally-Bam-y....

Ownership's major responsibility is to hire the right front office leader and sign the paychecks. IMO, Pegs problem is that he doesn't know how to identify or hire good "hockey men." He let LaFontaine pick Murray and that was a disaster. The NHL gave him a subtle prod to "look at" Botts, and that's been meh so far. Soon, we'll be on to door #3 and that will be an adventure as well. The same thing happened on the NFL side, but with McDermott and Beane, he actually got lucky and got it right. After Sexy Rexy, that was a relief. BTW, Ralph was nowhere near an absentee owner during his later life. He devoted most of his time to the Bills and "retired" from much of his other business operations. Ralph also had the "gift" of not knowing how to hire good people and lucked into Polian/Marv as well...

Yes he is. But he's still undersized (both the 6th shortest and 6th lightest of the 55 WR's at the combine) who's not faced much in the way of pro-level CBs, other than in the LSU games (where he had 3 catches for 68 yards in 2019 and 4 for 55 and a TD in 2018) or 2018 national championship with Clemson (one catch for 3 yards)... He won't have three first round WRs on the field with him as well (Jeudy, Devonta Smith in 2021 and most likely Jaylen Waddel in 2022)... More like Hill. He's way more advanced as a WR than Goodwin was. But from a body type / athleticism standpoint, maybe not all that different...

I know Ruggs is better but Goodwin is the first comparable that came to mind--world class speed and athleticism being the commonality. Ruggs' NFL.com profile says this: Overview Ruggs' speed alone helps both the running and passing games because it forces safeties into more passive positioning. He can work all three levels and his ability to turn slants and crossing routes into big gainers could make him the favorite gift under the tree for a quarterback and offense in need of an explosive weapon. He has quick, sure hands to handle off-target throws, but learning to release, separate and catch against physical NFL cornerbacks could require an adjustment period. He won't rack up the targets, but has explosive speed and talent to imprint on games with regularity.

I like Ruggs. But he's also got some 'prove it' things in his profile. Look how long it took Marquise Goodwin to learn how to to be an NFL WR. Ruggs is two inches taller and 8 lbs heavier, but he's still undersized and hasn't faced NFL CBs. I think he'll do fine, but there also might be more of a learning curve with him...

I think the answer isn't as clear cut as that. Ruggs made a lot of splash plays, but also wasn't used nearly as much by 'Bama as his draft slot might imply. I re-watched their "iron bowl" game with Auburn the other night and in the second half, when the game was on the line, Ruggs wasn't even on the field much. Waddle, Smith and Jeudy were the go-to WRs in crunch time. The following week in the Citrus Bowl vs. Michigan, Ruggs had two catches for 27 yards. What's exciting about Ruggs is his potential and measurables. Is he the next Tyreek Hill? Maybe. Which is what teams will be drafting for. But he still has things to work on, particularly his release against press coverage...

Well deserved...and insurance against poaching from other teams.

IDK. Who on the defense has he brought in that's an upgrade? Montour's just average, Miller less so. Joker looks like a good prospect, but he makes almost as many mistakes and giveaways as nice plays. Dahlin doesn't count--any GM with a pulse would have made that pick. IMO, saying the team is in a better place moving forward is like saying a snail is faster than an earthworm. The potential for Botts to **** this summer's restocking remains huge in my mind...

This post essentially captures my thoughts on Botts as well. He doesn't appear to have the slightest talent for spotting NHL-level talent. Batting 0% is maybe too kind--I'd put his hit rate in the negative category as there seems to be no over-arching team concept in any of his acquisitions. Still, at the heart of everything hanging over the team is the stench left by Tim Murray's reign. A new coat of paint and some re-arrangement of the deck chairs has been nowhere near enough to overcome the after effects of that debacle...

If they have to go all the way up to #10, then they should pass and possibly even look at trading down a bit, to pick up additional top 100 picks. OTOH, moving up to the #14 to #16 range seems like a reasonable trade off of draft capital for top end talent. The Edmonds deal two years ago is the template for this kind of move...

At the Senior Bowl: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bills-gm-brandon-beane-falcons-gm-thomas-dimitroff-join-stf/id1227006689?i=1000463331888 You've been aggressive to move up for guys, is that your MO as a GM? - " Definitely , I let the board tell me what decisions we need to make and if a guy is sticking out above everybody else on the board and continues to fall, with Edwards , if we had not got josh, Edwards would have been the guy we took at 12. When he got to 14 Packers were on the clock, man we got to start calling , Oakland wouldn't do it they had already traded down and wanted to pick at 15 , then we found Baltimore who was willing to do it. We felt the value was there. So when the value meets a big hole that you got, why not be aggressive ". At the combine: https://buffalonews.com/2020/02/25/brandon-beane-buffalo-bills-wide-receivers-nfl-draft-combine-analysis-edge-rushers/ 5. How much of a need is edge rusher? Big. So big, Beane said it’s a need even if impending free agents Shaq Lawson and Jordan Phillips stay. “I think it is regardless,” Beane said. “I think even if we signed back both Shaq and Jordan it would not deter me in any round to take another pass rusher. I think it’s one of the premium positions. The elite ones get paid. After the quarterback, that’s usually the next-highest-paid position.” Also at the combine: Beane acknowledged the need for more big plays. “John Brown probably gave us our most explosive plays, and Dawson had a couple explosive plays, and Devin had a few,” Beane said, referring to Dawson Knox and Devin Singletary. “We didn’t have enough explosive plays. The less explosive plays, the more 10-, 12-play drives you’ve got to have. What makes those hard is one penalty sets you back. All of a sudden you get a holding and you’re in second and 20 it becomes hard to get a first down. That’s where you saw the Chiefs have a Tyreek Hill, and he takes it to the house in one play. You’re always looking for explosive guys.”
