  1. Depends on where you make the tackle--at the LOS or five yards downfield. London Fletcher was a tackling machine, but not too many people ever considered him a differece maker...
  2. Better get on the phone and tell Buddy then: "Nix on Reiff: "He's very athletic. He's not a power guy, but he can anchor when he has good technique."
  3. Well, that's a lot like having unprotected sex. Just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best...
  4. I don't buy that argument. Hairston was what he was--a rookie that didn't embarass himself, but also struggled at times. He's a true ROT, that can fill in on the left side in a pinch but isn't a long-term solution there. I think any of the top 3-4 tackles this year could match that performance and eventually move beyond it...
  5. I like Mike, but he's not infallibile and missed a few like anyone else. That's why I'm still a fan of Glenn. He's not Kalil, but he's battle tested (50 starts), versatile and has the size/strength to hold up against NFL d-linemen from day one. Getting a solid, if non-Pro Bowl quality starter that can lock down that position for 5-10 years with the 10th pick is good value, IMO...
  6. So it's all about the first half of the season. How strongly they come out of the gate (hopefully, like last year) will determine if they break the playoff jinx...
  7. Seems to me, teams (including the Bills) do this all the time. They tell borderline draftable guys to stand by the phone as they may get a priority UDFA call...
  8. Cordy Glenn (Gilmore as the darkhorse)
  9. He'll probably show up on the 25th--when the real draft info starts to flow, rather than smoke and mirrors...
  10. Not to piss in the punch bowl, but do people realize these draft guides are put together a month or more ago due to publishing/distribution constraints? Usually before pro days and sometimes even the combine. They're fun to read, but they're only starting points for getting a "read" on players. The smoke blown (by scouts, GM's, agents, hangers on, etc.) about some of these guys gets pretty dense until the final week or so. So everybody's "next all pro" (outside the top 5-6 guys) is often a MacGuffin, while a "Reach! Reach!" on draft day is a [potential] solid pick. I used to subscribe to all the guides until I realized what Mel, Dan, etc. were saying in February/March didn't have a lot of relevance to what happened in late April. (That said, I still buy the PFW guide as Nawrocki continues to use the Joel Buchsbaum model, which was the best outside the NFL)
  11. Why not give them the Wonderlic, as well... "Unruly football fans booted from NFL stadiums this year will be required to pass a code-of-conduct exam, or they will not be allowed back in for another game."
  12. "I will miss the challenge of researching and writing a daily sports column..." I got a good laugh out of that line. Enjoy your retirement, Bob...
  13. The state will just bond out its portion, likely $125-$150 million, which likely will be serviced by a surcharge on ticket prices and concessions. There's no room to increase the local portion of the Erie County sales tax (4.75%), since it's already among the highest in the nation...
  14. Chan was hired on January 19, 2010 putting him behind the eight ball in terms of lining up a staff. Most coaching hires are made around the time of the Senior Bowl (played on January 29th that year) and the cupboard was pretty bare by the time he got around to hiring Edwards on February 4, 2010. Plus, Gailey being out of the NFL in 2009 didn't help with his ability to network for a hot up-and-coming guy...
  15. Keep reading those draft guides...
  16. No mention of plans to visit the Bills...
  17. Some insight. It took five minutes of websurfing to compile, and...Eureka!
  18. Curious, were you watching highlight packages or entire games? I've been carving out time to watch entire Georgia game video (I'm on the Outback Bowl vs. MSU right now) and focus on each snap. From what I've seen so far, I think Glenn's footwork is plenty good and he's shown good ability to get to the second level. He looks less athletic than Reiff or Martin due to the extra 30-35 pounds he's packing versus them. But at the end of the play, his man was usually wiped out and he made it look effortless. If he got his weight down to 315 or so, he'd be more suited to handle the NFL speed, IMO. I like Martin, too, due to his smarts. I just wonder if he has the capability to bulk up and maintain the weight as he seems like a natural 285 lb kind of guy. Don't like Reiff at LOT in our scheme at all. Buddy likes size, smarts, versatility, size, experience against top competition, and size as his OL pedigree. Glenn just seems like Nix's kind of guy, even if he's not the prototypical LOT that a lot of teams look for.
  19. At ROT. He was never projected as a LOT and it was serendipty that he was forced into the lineup due to the lack of Tackle depth. I don't get the Hairston enamorment. Nice player, didn't suck, didn't excel. That's not enough to hang your hat on as a long-term fix, IMO, any more than Sheppard at ILB or Nelson at slot receiver couldn't be upgraded...
  20. Read? That sounds like the Tom Donahoe approach to player evaluation...
  21. I wonder how many of these guys (even the upper echelon NFL.com and ESPN talking heads) watch actual game tapes--not 2 minute Youtube complilations. I respect Mayock because I suspect he does, but there's no way some of these other guys do, simply because of time constraints. From the games I watched, Glenn has plenty of mobility in pass pro and was a beast on running plays. I guess we'll find out on the 26th...
  22. Not sure who spiked Mort's Metamucil... Then again, maybe this has something to do with it.
  23. Not a fan of him at all. Interesting that a few talking heads are flaming Glenn now, after his profile's risen in the weeks after his solid combine showing...after all, the only insight they usually have is what's whispered in their ear by their NFL sources (who'd never try to put out disinformation on a guy ).
  24. Give the kid a break. He's no Calvin Murphy... Yeah, with McLuv'n likely to be cut, they could spend their time tutoring Jenkins...
