Casserly: Buffalo picks Tannehill
Lurker replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buddy said "win now" and I believe him. He's always been a straight shooter, so I can't see him eating his words with a Tannehill pick... -

Sorry, I thought this was the sock puppet thread... -
Curtis Modkins - Is He Needed?

Good title for this thread... -
Agreed. Most likely Kalil, IMO.

Bump

Do the words Mike Williams mean we can't draft Kalil?
-
Do the words JP Losman mean we'll never draft a first round QB again? Sigh...

Bills Scout's player soundbytes

I know they're trying not to tip their hand, but it sounds like they really like Osweiler, as well as Schwartz and Wagner. I hope they put up some other clips as well... -
Not the 41. Maybe a conditional next year, if they're convinced he's a difference maker....

Dolphins struggling to keep season tickets at 30,000
Lurker replied to biglukes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Meddling in the war room and player personnel, if you're to believe quite a few posters here. Now that Al Davis is playing fantasy football in the great beyond, Danny Boy Snyder is stepping back a bit and Ralph is confined (more and more) to Detroit--Ross is the new kid with the shiny toy screwing up a once well-run organization... -
In my case, I try to watch complete games. That's why I'm a fan of Cordy Glenn, who was playing at a much higher level at the end of the year than during the early part of the season. Many of the draft gurus that question him point to the tough game he had against Bosie State, in the season opener, when he was playing his first game at LOT in two years. By season end, he wasn't that guy any more--and looked very good against LSU and MSU, teams with better talent that are more credible benchmarks. IMO, scouts look at how prospects improve over the course of a year/career and then project that into how they'll continue to improve against NFL competition. Draft gurus spend 3 minutes looking at a highlight package assembled by an intern in the media production department while they're on deadline...

Yeah, that sums up my feeling as well. The depth chart is still being expanded/molded and a good draft will go a long way toward telling us what we have in Fitz.

Insider: Gilmore grades as second-rounder

The wild swings come from draft gurus on the outside looking in, not the teams themselves... -
No way the Jests would help a division rival like that...

There's talk that Kalil could slide out of the top 10.
Lurker replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Franchise" seems to be the operative question all these movement scenarios hinge on. Is Kalil a prennial Pro Bowl pick in the making or just a very good OT in a weak class of offensive linemen? -
Agreed. Maybe Buddy has McNeil on his speed dial for first thing Saturday night...
-
I'm surprised by the optimism of these results, frankly. Seven uneventful starts during a dismal losing streak but, hey, we know he'll get better! It'd would certainly be a nice story, but I don't think Hollywood's ready to buy the movie right just yet...

More discussion from today's Minneapolis Star Tribune: "That's a question Spielman and Vikings coach Leslie Frazier must consider, measuring Kalil's worth alongside fellow blue-chip prospects such as LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne and Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon. "You've got to really weigh your options," Frazier said. "Because the philosophy [in the NFL] has always been to get the game-changer. And left tackle is not necessarily the game-changer. Usually game-changers are the guys who can score you points. Receivers. Quarterbacks. So what are we measuring that left tackle against? It's a loaded debate." -
Chronological age versus NFL game experience age
Lurker replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bad analogy. Five years of NFL pounding is no comparison to what KTD listed as Fred's wear and tear. If I drive my car at 30 MPH and you go 90, I suppose we could both have a fatal accident if we hit a tree. But I like my chances better... -
Ralph picked McLuv'n? Good one...

La Canfora/NFL Network Article Says....they all lie!
Lurker replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about these gems, since they involve players that the Bills are known to like: Posted April 22, 2012 @ 10:16 a.m. ET By Nolan Nawrocki The following quotes are from NFL executives, coaches and front-office personnel, speaking on the condition of anonymity. • “(South Carolina CB Stephon) Gilmore is a second-round corner who is going to go a lot higher than he should because he has what everyone is looking for in the way of height-weight-speed and his character is clean.” • “If (Stanford OLT) Jonathan Martin goes in the top 20, it is a crime. He is (very soft). He should go in the third (round).” • “(Stanford OG David) DeCastro is overrated. On tape, he is a good guard, but he is not special by any means. You love the kid, you love the work ethic, you love the makeup. But in a normal draft, you’d like to get him in the second.” • “I wish (LSU CB) Morris Claiborne tested better athletically. He needs to get stronger. His body is still really young. He timed better at his pro day than he did at the Combine, but his jumps were average. I thought he would be more explosive.” • “(Arizona CB Trevin) Wade has been heating up, but I still don’t know why. It’s a big ‘wow.’ He’s just a guy to me.” • “I think the issues (he has) should keep (Amini) Silatolu out of the first, but I know a lot of offensive line coaches that are really jacked about getting him in the first. It takes some balls to take him in the first, but he will be a very hot guy if he makes it into the second (round).” • “If the Vikings do not take (Matt Kalil), I think they are nuts. He will play 10 years in the league and be very good. I don’t think everyone is on the same page in the building yet. If you trade back, you run the risk of missing out on the guy you want.” • “I would be scared more by Morris Claiborne’s low test score if he were a receiver. Cornerback is such an instinctive, read-and-react position. There are a lot of defenses where it’s basically going to be — you got (No.) 82 — go cover him. The test score does not matter. I think the league is getting smarter. To be elite, you need to be smart, but I’m not sure that has not always been the case.” • “It seems everyone wants to beat up on (Alabama CB Dre) Kirkpatrick, but he can play. So, too, though could the other 10 guys (on Alabama's defense). What Nick Saban is doing there is not fair for college football. There is some serious talent on that defense.” • “When was the last time (Georgia OT) Cordy Glenn hit anyone? He has to get a lot tougher. I thought he was a finesse guy, and it’s (difficult) to cut it as a finesse guy in the league anymore.” -
Chronological age versus NFL game experience age
Lurker replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem comparing him to Jackson, as I see it, is that RB is a significantly less difficult position to play than quarterback. Weeden played in a very simple offense and would need a lot of reps to learn how to read NFL defenses--which would take time and experience, as opposed to Freddy, whose great vision gave him the ability to excel right off the bat and keeps him productive today. Weeden would be an interesting backup-type guy, but if Buddy's truthful about wanting to win now, he might not be a good use of a mid-round pick, IMO...
