  1. Man, hate those weaknesses: "The major knock on Kuechly is that he had a lot of "inflated" tackle production in college: i.e., most of his tackles came five-to-eight yards downfield. He didn't get up into the line of scrimmage to make powerful, impactful plays much, and won't be relied upon as a pass rusher at the next level, where he'll be strictly a tackling, sideline-to-sideline backer."
  2. Haven't the Colts won more games over the past 10 years than any other team? One year of tanking seems like a fair price to pay for that run...
  3. This line of thinking, I suppose...
  4. "The only reason a trade is even possible is that Umenyiora is entering the final year of his contract and he made it clear he’s still looking for a very lucrative, long-term extension. In fact, during an interview on WFAN he seemingly set the bar at four years and $40 million or so." Pass...
  5. Boy, that drumbeat seems to be getting louder...
  6. The "30-year-old defensive end" part of that article augers against it...
  7. I don't see Bryd's new contract (probably $4 million per year), Wilson's $2 million an Barron's rookie numbers ($1.3 million or so) being that much tied up in three players. Dareus is only making $1.3 million this year and has a cap hit of $4.6 million. Barron's cap hit would be substantially less, under the new salary rules--so maybe $8-9 million for all three guys in 2013-14. That's not that unusual, IMO...
  8. The Bills have plenty of cap room and rookie contracts (especially at the #10) are not that difficult to fit in. Wilson is only making $1.7 million this year, which is not a heavy lift...
  9. Whitner couldn't hold Barron's jockstrap and Maybin was a panic move by a clueless HC. If Buddy thinks Barron is a difference maker, his track record of Spiller and Dareus shows he's pretty astute. If it's Kuechly, Gilmore or Glenn, I'll feel the same way...
  10. This list puts things in perspective as well. All this pre-draft buildup and all I got was a [fill in the blank]...
  11. Bill Parcels ended his ESPN draft show last night with two points: 1.) Don't ever wait for someone to tell you you're right about who you pick. 2.) Go by what your eyes tell you, not what you hear. To me, that's Buddy's approach to drafting in a nutshell (and not the clusterfuc prior GM's like Donahoe, Marv, et al seemed to follow). I can easily see him gravitating to Barron, even if it's not an apparent need. And avoiding guys like Kalil or Kuechly that draftnics and the media have loved for a long time... Then again, it could just as easily be Gilmore, since it would be an against-the-wind choice as well...
  12. Byrd at FS, Barron at SS and Wilson in nickle or dime swing support, IMO. I like George, he's been a real survior and certainly had a better career than most guys who've switched positions. But his run support isn't exceptional and at 31, his best days are probably behind him. Barron plays like a fifth LB in run support and has enough speed to be an above average cover guy as well...
  13. Draft Buzz - I just received a text from a trusted media source who's in New York City for the draft, and the buzz is the Buffalo Bills will pull the first surprise of the draft with their pick at No. 10, if the player they are targeting is still on the board when it's their time to pick in the first round. -Al Fronczak (3:17 p.m. ET) That's the open-ended question here. Who among the top 10 would be a surprise pick? Gilmore?
  14. Boy, I'd like to see a GM with big enough balls to try that one! It would be really something if a guy like Tannehill slid out of the first round and teams like Miami, etc. were throwing trade offers at the Gints on something like that...
  15. Yiddish expression...and not definition #6!!
  16. Yeah, and how much money did the DMN get from us reading it for free on their webpage! (although they now charge for access, I see)
  17. If they go Barron, it's be because they think he's this guy: "Nix said "if you can get a guy who can start for you for 10 or 12 years, you'd have a good pick." And he has tried to convince every reporter and his dog that "we won't reach. We won't go past a playmaking guy that we've got graded higher to go down the board just to fill a position need. We won't do that. I've tried it. It doesn't work. We'll take the best player."
  18. It was a lot of work. Unlike many media mockers, Gosselin reached out to team sources he'd cultivated leaguewide over many years, picked their brains and then made his picks. It wasn't some 5-minute wonder like so many of the mocks that keep picking Reiff for the Bills because he's the second-rated OT prospect. You know, good old fashion journalism. Right there on the shelf next to the high button shoes and buggy whips...
  19. It's a B for Bupkis... "Just talking to a bunch of fans around town, they let us know how excited they are about things. We sense that. We know that," running back Fred Jackson said. "At the same time, we feel the exact same way. We feel like the organization has done some things to give us a great opportunity to go out and win football games, so we're putting a lot of expectations on ourselves."
  20. Not getting any immediate help from your #10 pick would be a bucket of water dumped on the excited feeling we're hearing about teamwide for the upcoming season...
  21. That doesn't fit the Tannehill profile then. The only way he's "best at his position" at #10 is because this is such a weak year for QBs...
  22. Signing the highest paid DE in league history. No way do you do that if you want to wait 2-3 years on a developmental QB...
  23. Bupkis. Here's what he said the day he was hired as GM: "It doesn't matter what kind of splash we make today, what matters is two years or three years down the road that we've got this thing turned in the right direction and we're winning."
  24. It seems to be to a disapointing percentage of posters here. If you avoided positions that had been first round busts in years past, all you could draft are kickers...
