That's nowhere in the NFL waiver rules that I can see: https://operations.nfl.com/updates/the-players/nfl-waiver-system-overview/ NFL WAIVER SYSTEM OVERVIEW MAY 20, 2015 The NFL and NFL Players Association Collective Bargaining Agreement sets forth specific rules for how NFL clubs can claim and release players using the NFL’s waiver system. Here is how the process work. The waiver system allows player contracts or, in certain cases, a club’s NFL rights to a player to be made available by one club to the other clubs in the league. The waiver period runs from the first business day after the Super Bowl through the end of the NFL’s regular season. Except in rare incidents, the waiver period lasts 24 hours and all waivers are categorized as “no recall” and “no withdrawal,” which means once a club waives a player, it cannot take the player back or change the player’s status. Once a club waives a player, the 31 other clubs either file a claim to obtain him or they waive their chance to do so (thus the origin of the term “waiver”). Clubs are assigned players on a priority basis. From the first business day after the Super Bowl until the day after the third regular season week, assignments are based on a claiming order that is the same as the order in which clubs selected in that year’s Draft. From the beginning of the fourth regular season weekend through the Super Bowl, assignments are based on the inverse order of their win-loss record. For example, a team with fewer wins will be awarded a player off waivers ahead of a team with a better record. If a player passes through waivers unclaimed, he becomes a free agent. Once the waiver period starts each year through the trading deadline, a vested veteran — a player who has acquired four years of pension credit — is not subject to the waiver system if the club decides to release him. That means if a team decides to release a vested veteran, the league considers his contract to be terminated immediately and he is free to negotiate and sign with any other club. From the trading deadline through the end of the regular season, vested veterans are subject to the waiver process.

What ya talking about, Willis? Waived players added to the practice squad, for example, can certainly play in the playoffs if theiy're signed to the active roster. Example one is Duke Williams...

I'd expect something to happen at the draft now. I can't see a good outcome for the Jags if they wait to unload him after that...

If the workers were guaranteed their jobs, it would be condsidered a furlough, rather than a layoff. In New York State, furloughed workers DO NOT appear to qualify for unemployment insurance benefits, based on my reading of the following: https://legalbeagle.com/12614350-do-you-get-unemployment-during-furlough-in-new-york-state.html

No need to dumpster dive. The Seahawks sure aren't, since they're looking for an upgrade and might even bring broken down old Beast Mode back for another year. -

Waived - A non-vested player (less than four years of service) who is terminated goes through waivers. When he is released another team can claim him within a certain period of time. A vested veteran only goes through the waiver system from the trading deadline in midseason through the end of the season. During the offseason and all the way up to the trading deadline, a vested veteran gets released. Released - A vested veteran (4 or more years of accrued service) is free when he is terminated and can sign with any club. Keep in mind, if the termination takes place between the end of the trading deadline and the end of the calendar year, the player goes through waivers. A vested veteran released this time of year is free to sign with any team. Cut - An unofficial term for being terminated and one of the above two categories applies.

Colts release Pierre Desir; signed by Jets

Nice film breakdown on Desir from the 2018 season. He had some injuries last year that held him back, but that's the kind of 'dent and scratch' player Beane likes to target... https://www.ninersnation.com/2019/3/4/18249218/nfl-free-agency-2019-49ers-needs-pierre-desir-film-breakdown -

Yep. If they were kicking the tires on Chris Harris, Desir would be a good, lower-cost alternative... -

Perfect fit... "Desir, a long corner that excels in zone coverage and run defense, has proven to be a great fit for the Colts defense led by coordinator Matt Eberflus. The 28-year-old is also viewed upon as a leader in a very young secondary." -

Probably the top end of that range. He's a zone CB, so that will keep his cost down. But based on his last contract, not much below $6 million or so... https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/pierre-desir-14538/ -

PIERRE DESIR, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS — 87.1 RED-ZONE GRADE Desir allowed a mere 14 yards in red-zone coverage but that was at the cost of three receptions allowed, with two of those receptions ending in either a first down or a touchdown. It wasn’t the prettiest coverage effort from the fourth-year corner, but he made up for it in run defense. Desir’s 91.3 run-defense grade in the red-zone is sixth-highest since 2006 for a qualifying cornerback — due in large part to the fact he didn’t miss a single tackle while racking up three stops inside the 20-yard line. It was a breakout year in many aspects for Desir, and it earned him a $7.5M-per-year contract this offseason. -

The Bills should be all over this guy. Probably $6 million or so annual cap hit. He'd be a better option than Norman, IMO.. 2018 Highlights: December 2019 vs. Carolina: -
It would be nice if he knew what he was talking about, however. Like maybe consulting a labor lawyer or state labor department official as to the termination requirements for former employees so they can qualify for unemployment insurance in NYS. If it turns out that Pegs did things correctly so individuals can qualify for benefits, do you think we'll get a follow-up mea culpa from Tim? I'm not holding my breath...

I would only offer the 2020 and 2021 second round picks. Two early picks next year essentually gut your 2021 draft, IMO... -
Clay Matthews released...interested?
Lurker replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure. I'd love to see some Josh Allen-Clay Matthews State Farm commercials... -
The question is, do you pay starter money to a rotational RB or split that outlay by signing a lower-priced RB AND adding another quality CB, OL, or WR? Gordon would be a good option if you wanted to give him 16-18 carries and 3-4 passes a game (i.e., a bell cow). But he's going to get half of that here, splitting time with Singletary. If we put some of that salary toward a Kevin Johnson-type quality depth CB or a Daryl Williams-type ROT, you kill two birds with one stone, IMO...
