No doubt. But since he's likely to be the day-one starter, they'll still have to protect him a bit as he acclimates to the speed of the NFL game. They can give him some help if they want to go deep and hope his wingspan will force speed rushers to go around him enough to mix in longer developing plays...

To each their own. To me, the wildcat's a gimmick who's use is on the decline. Interesting tidbit: "The Bills, who signed the former Jets receiver Brad Smith, a college quarterback, specifically for direct-snap plays, used the tactic 21 times, the most in the N.F.L."

And a whole 0.0000001% of Bills revenue, no doubt...

The new kickoff rules reduce the number of chances he'll get, though, if the trend toward signing dedicated kickoff men continues to gain steam. Hope you're right. The wildcat's novelty seems to be wearing off, IMO, so we'll just have to see if Chan can adjust to that...

Yeah, the problem would be if Chan coaches him up and he get's more confidence, he'd likely not be content to play clipboard carrier. His head would have to be in the right place, and that may be the biggest hurdle here...

It will be interesting to see what Carrington can do now that he's only got one position to worry about--rotational DT. The kid had a lot thrown at him by the previous DCs, so maybe he can get back into a comfort zone this year.

No matter what, though, I like the fact it sends a message that the Bills are being aggressive about adding talent (we can debate that in Young's case) to the rest of the league and says they are in "win now" mode. It's sure to get them some airtime with the national talking heads, if nothing else...

Nah. That's a lowball offer and besides, the Bills have the money/flexibility to handle it--so why go there...

Bupkis. Buddy was hired as national scout (but still focused primarily on the South) on January 26, 2009--just three months ahead of the 2009 draft. All of the scouting work on that class had been done by Modrak's crew. On draft day, Buddy was just one voice in a heirachy where Modrak was the boss. His input was provided, and I'm sure, out-voted (no way does he pick a one-year wonder in the first round). The 2010 draft is on Buddy, although he was still working with the scouts hired by Modrak. Troup was a big miss, but Spiller, Carrington and Easley were good picks. The scouting staff has been upgraded with Chuck Cook and Daryl Moody and the results appear (on paper) to be much better. Don't forget Doug Whaley's added role this year as head of college scouting (in addition to his pro responsibilities). This is shaping up as the best personnel group since the Butler days...

Proverbial hammer on head of nail. Donahoe set that "I'm smarter than you" tone, IMO. His "input data" for that approach, provided by Modrak, was bad as well. Buddy is the anti-Donahoe, and the team is better off for it...

IMO, it's not a "mistake" so much as it's a failure to see how Glenn can be an effective LOT in a quick-passing scheme like the Bills employ versus a LOT in a traditional 7-step drop scheme like the Raiders (used to) employ. Glenn will be fine, since he'll just have to blot out the sun for 2.5 seconds and the ball will be out. And he'll be a big asset to the running game as a 330 pounds (what he'll play at) mauler...

When Nix was hired as a national scout on January 26, 2009, much of the draft evaluations under Modrak's crew were already in the pipeline. Those reports, IMO, along with Nix being out of the NFL in 2008 contributed to the poor picks.
