Comedy is tough... Summary: An extremely talented, dual-threat QB who carried Auburn to a national title, Newton has the arm and athletic talent desired in a rollout, play-action, bootleg vertical passing game and would fit ideally into an offense such as that of the Redskins or Raiders. However, he always will test the rules, be difficult to manage and lacks the intangibles to win the trust of a locker room. Will require a very strong-willed, demanding coach to live up to his potential and avoid the trappings of fame and fortune, but even the greatest taskmaster will not be able to keep away the drama that is still swirling from a stained Heisman Trophy and littered recruiting trail that Newton left in the SEC. Can provide an initial spark, but will quickly be dissected and contained by NFL defensive coordinators, struggle to sustain success and will not prove worthy of an early investment. An overhyped, high-risk, high-reward selection with a glaring bust factor, Newton is sure to be drafted more highly than he should and could foreclose a risk-taking GM's job and taint a locker room.

Yes, that would be a real curse breaker...

UPDATE: QB Vince Young Signs With Buffalo Bills
Lurker replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That only happens if he lights it up in preseason. If he has a pedestrian training camp, no one in their right mind (or media people whoring out for attention) will be clamoring to see him, based on his performance last year... -
4.96 with a 7.13 time in the 3-cone. Not the greatest, but about on par with Kirk Cousins, whom the Bills really liked. Also, to put it in perspective, Fitzpatrick ran a 4.86 and had a 7.09 3-cone as his pre-draft measurables...

As I'm sure you realized when you watched that video, he was relating the "word around the league" on Gilmore and Glenn, not his own opinion. That, and $1.50, will get you a cup of coffee...

Has any Defense gone with 5-2-3-1 recently?
Lurker replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems like putting the QB in shotgun and running a lot of quick passing plays would back off that kind of undisguised pressure. Playing from a base 4-man line and throwing in the odd blitz would likely be more effective... -

Anybody remember the personal foul on Pat Toomay?
Lurker replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's amazing is that his SON is just as bad! (although ****ing the 'Fins is not the worst thing to ever to happen). Talk about the apple not falling far from the tree. Here's a funny bit about Bills fans response to the Toomay call... "Jerry Sr. is among the most respected officials in the league. He has been chosen to officiate four Super Bowls, more than any of his active peers. Still, the elder Bergman is not without his critics. When a call by him negated what appeared to have been a fumble by the Dolphins' Mercury Morris in a crucial 1975 game with the Bills, Bergman, who lives in Pittsburgh, received 1,500 letters. "An envelope addressed to 'Blind As a Bat Bergman, Allegheny County,' found its way into our mailbox," says his wife, JoAnn." -
He's still behind Lee Smith and Mike Caussin (how'd he get that #83 jersey--grrrr!) and maybe even Kevin Brock, so he'd have to have a really good camp to make the active 46...

UPDATE: QB Vince Young Signs With Buffalo Bills

It's possible they want to see how Corp and Tanney look this weekend before reaching back out to Young... -
Greener than grass (two, count 'em, two catches for 33 yards in his one year of football at Houston), but some eye-opening measureables. And he seems like another good kid you can root for, which is a prevailing theme at OBD this off-season...

Did Cris Carter just make it easier for Andre to get into HOF?
Lurker replied to bbb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow! I had the exact same thought as I read his comments, so there may be a risk that HOF voters will remember it as well. Still, I suspect it'll be washed out to sea in the daily flush and won't diminish his chances after the story becomes yesterday's news... -
Well, that alone should argue against it...

Good old Dwight...always loved his take on college players. At the 1:29 mark of this video I wonder if he's doing some ad hoc scouting work for Buddy? Both Aaron Corp and Alex Tanney played in this game, as did 6th round pick Mark Asper...

Bills invite 21 FA's to mini camp
Lurker replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Playing exclusivly out of the shotgun isn't going to help either. Still, he seems to see the field well, which is something you can build on... -

Peter King on Florence's release
Lurker replied to nick in* england's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, to be honest KtD, I'm not a fan due to the fact they use network feeds to base their judgements and have posted as much on several occasions: "We use TV broadcasts for both the analysis and the player participation data. We’ve been asked a lot how therefore is it possible to determine who was on the field in every position through TV pictures. Surely that just isn’t possible? Well, just because something is not easy doesn’t mean it is impossible. Firstly, the high definition picture from which we work is excellent, and that gives us the best starting point outside of coaches’ film, which isn’t attainable outside of NFL offices." Those feeds are highly variable, based on the number of cameras at a particular game, and of course, focus most of their attention on the ball (as opposed to coaches video which looks at the entire field--the stuff Jaws uses so effectively to break down plays). The PFF guys can say nothing's "impossible" all they want, but it just is--based on the GIGO of television feeds that can't capture what's happening at all points on a play. I take their suff with a big grain of salt... -

More likely, he (or his interns) lurk on TSW and other team MBs to pick up nuggets like that... -
