Tyler Wilson - QB - Arkansas
Lurker replied to The Beautiful East's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gee, a lot of work there. Too bad the hand size argument is about having the ability to put RPMs on ball when throwing, rather than having the dropsies.... -
Quick...somebody alert the local sports media!!

Buddy Nix and addressing the QB position
Lurker replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And yet, leading into the season I think most rational TSW posters were on board with Buddy's 3-year plan. Build the talent pool (year 1), sign your own key free agents (year 2), and make a push in FA to build a stout defense that could win now (year 3). Adding a rookie QB before any one of these three foundational items was in place may not have worked either. Wilson's success in Seattle was helped greatly by having a dynamic defense and a good running game. So was Dalton's. So was Kap's. The Bills defense certainly can't be compared to those three teams. Unfortunately for Nix, everything that could go wrong with his plan did so this year. The defense never clicked, the WRs got hurt, and Chan seemed to have a real meltdown in his ability to gameplan and handle the pressure. Not appoligizing for Buddy, but it's amazing what a 16 game season can do in terms of changing positives to negatives (and vice versa). Whaley's time is now, and I suspect Buddy will retire after the draft as the new regime settles in... -
The Bills were fast out of the gate in starting the HC search and had one of the most aggressive interview schedules of any team looking to fill a vacancy. IMO, Chip Kelly was likely their #1 target, but when he made it obvious he wanted major control (and was unlikely to go with a small market team), they moved on and Marrone, who they probably viewed as the next best candidate. I don't think they were going the retread route (Wiz, Lovie) and were really intent on charting a new course for the HC selection. I actually like the fact they acted decisively on Marrone, rather than continuing to interview coordinators simply to be exhaustive. If, after five interviews, they were convinced he was a guy who could turn the ship around, letting him slip through their fingers simply to keep "turning over stones" would have been an even more egregious mistake. Being flexible and adapative is an advantage I see with Brandon in charge, rather than stodgy and predictibale like Ralph would have been. Then there's the past (bad) experience with Chan getting a late start on assembling a staff due to his late hire. I agree that Pettine is absolutely with the Bills due to the quick HC pick. And the coaching staff is that much further down the road in looking at how the Senior Bowl prospects might fit into what they'll be trying to do this year.

The only thing certain after that "retraction" is...that Tim can forget about Canton this year. Andre sends his regards....

Brown had something to say on THAT as well: http://profootballta...head-coach-job/ "Brown was the lead dog in Oakland, with nine straight 1,000-yard seasons. But Trestman took over and some guy named Jerry Rice (who was familiar with Trestman’s West Coast principles) became a more prominent part of the game plan. “The year he took over as offensive coordinator is also the year my reign with the Raiders ended because he made Jerry the No. 1 receiver instead of myself,” Brown said. “The year before I made the Pro Bowl and caught [91 passes for 1,165 yards] … and the year afterwards, the year he takes over I think I came like 50 yards from catching 1,000 yards in 10 or 11 straight seasons. “Hey, look, I’m not a selfish player, but come on, if I put the work in, make this happen for me. We had some interesting words about that part of it.”

Great - the more Tim wears his tin foil hat, the better Andre's chances look at breaking the HOF log jam with Brown and Carter...

Russ Brandon at the Senior Bowl

So, as a NFL prospect, the opportunity to meet an NFL team president wouldn't be cool for you? As a Bills scout, knowing the game is important enough for the top man to attend doesn't make you work that much harder? Or feel good about management's commitment to making this week an important one for the organization? To me, his presense sends a big signal that the Bills are serious about making the team better. But carry on with the typical TSW nabbob-ism if it makes you feel more comfortable... -
Big Whoop. He's a newby writer with 1.5 years covering the NFL http://www.linkedin....in/chrisburke82 Before SI, he worked at a twice weekly community paper, then was a Detroit-based blogger. Some credentials. Peter King is a lot more credible (as far as pundrity like this can be, that is): http://sportsillustr...ills/index.html

That's not an "article"...its essentially a letter to the editor by the principal at Dana L. West Jr.-Sr. High in Port Byron (scroll down to the bottom to see for yourself). Why it was linked to the front page of TBD is a mystery to me....

I suspect we'll get that soon, now that the coaching staff is in place (perhaps during SB week). IMO, there was absolutely no need to do it any sooner, while the staff was being assembled. Any bellyaching by the media about controlled "access" is just flatulance in the wind....

The sent....everyone! http://www.buffalobi...09-f42be4118747 Also, it appears Whaley is the 'face' of the Bills down there this week....

Tyler Wilson has very small hands (8 5/8"), compared to EJ Manuel (10 1/8"), Ryan Nassib (10"), Glennon (9 3/8") and Jones (9"). Teams want a guy whose hand measures at least 9 1/2 inches from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the little finger. As an example, Russell Wilson's hands (10 1/4") give him the ability to really spin the ball, despite his height disadvantage.

Agreed. They took a new approach by NOT waiting until the cupboard was bare (as in past coaching hires) and went with the second hottest college coaching candidate actually looking for an NFL job (and the only one with NFL experience) when it became apparent that Chip Kelly was not interested in a small market franchise. http://www.phillymag.com/eagles/2012/11/26/peter-kings-15-head-coaching-candidates/ Anyway, I took the whole "due diligence" slant to be code words for "controlled media access..."
