Did anyone $&^@ this team more last year than Dave Wannstedt?

The problem is determining who that later group is--so you can have a discussion--and who the former were now that many are now saying 'I told you so,' so they can be ignored.... -

And yet...show of hands. How many TSW "experts" were excited to have Wanny take over the DC role last spring? How much of the 20-20 hindsight in this thread would posters be willing to share if SDS had an easy-to-look-up archive system on the Wall that would present that kind of "don't look at what I said then, look at what I'm saying now" commentary? It's maddening (or Madden, as well) to read the "this [insert FO person name] is inept" posts time and again when the majority of TSW posters were on board with many of the personnel and coaching decisions at the time they took place (i.e., real time, not after the fact). Have the Bills failed yet again. Yes, undoubtedly. But the "I'm quite when things are going well, but know more than the front office fools when their not" attitude on this, or any MB, gets to be a real drag and adds nothing to the discussion... -

This is a bigger smoke screen from Buddy than any so far, IMO. It would not surprise me one bit if they went LB with number eight... -
I think I'll miss him most for his Masters broadcast introduction. It always sent chills of anticipation through me. RIP...

Seven reasons why Chip Kelly left Oregon?

Let's have a warm Philly welcome for Chip!! -
Nah. Gilmore and McLuv'n are set at the corners, with Brooks as the nickle. Any dime or reserve help can come via the later rounds. That said, do they rely as much on Leodis in the return game now that he has full-time starting responsibilities? That will be interesting to watch at SJF...

Good teams generally have good defensive fronts and/or pass rushing OLBs, which can compensate for having only average DBs. I'd be interested to see the sack numbers put up by your 'good' teams vs. the 'bad' ones...

Seeing that they had Ron Brooks listed as the backup SS, that makes perfect sense. http://www.buffalobills.com/team/depth-chart.html

Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
Lurker replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't doubt that Buddy will do what he wants to do. But what will be like fingernails on the chalkboard is the fallout from pundits (and TSW bomb throwers) if the Bills don't take him at eight and he goes to another team... -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
Lurker replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Same here. But it seems the 'consensus' may be backing the Bills into a corner on this one. SDS better have his TWS server farm ready for a stress test on draft day... -

What do you mean? Absolutes make life just so much easier, don't they. Why think about all sides of an issues when you can just choose one and move on to other things... -

Thanks. It's always good to have a post like this to remind me why I shouldn't spend so much time on TSW... -

Non-Bills related: Peca for Sabres HC?

How about letting him coach someone older than 20 for a couple of years first... -
I have a question for all the "Warmack is the pick" supporters: The new coaching staff has repeatedly said they're designing a fast paced, K-gun type offense. The only real knock on Warmack is that he wears down in games and is a short area mauler. How does that profile fit into an offensive scheme that is going to favor highly active linemen that will be asked to play at a high tempo?? In other words, which of the top two OGs in this class--Warmack or Jonathan Cooper--best fits the new scheme, and why would the Bills draft board not be set accordingly?
-
Fixed. IMO, the return on an investment of draft choices that high just doesn't make financial/salary cap sense, given (1) the rational prices rookie contracts are commanding under the new CBA and (2) the irrational/inflated contracts that premium free agents (like Bryd) are getting. The safety position is important, but no team is going to mortgage that much of its future for it...

Is there room on wagon? That's my order too. There's something about Manuel that gives me the same vibe I had about Cordy Glenn last year. He's not a finished product or a consensus pick, but his 'raw material' is something I think is more attractive than the other, higher rated prospects. With a year to sit behind Kolb and learn, he's the guy I'd like them to go after...

LOL! That was my first thought as well. Since you'll be on the road so much, you absolutely need a solid, reliable second-in-command (or at least a high level admin assistant) who can fight the fires for you while you're "outside" the loop / in-transit. Someone you can 'mind meld' with, rather than just a 9-5 clock puncher. The other thing would be to develop easy-to-generate reporting that continuously stack ranks the performance metrics for those 340+ reps, so you'll be able to monitor their activity while you're 'working' in your 40,000-foot office.

I wonder why: 2012 All Pro WRs: Megatron 6'5" 236 Brandon Marshal 6'1" 238 2nd team: AJ Green 6'4" 207 (pantywaist) Andre Johnson 6'3" 230 Other than Welker in 2011 (and who wouldn't benefit from Brady), none of the first or second team all pro wideouts have been under 6-feet and 190 lbs...

How Did Joe Ferguson Rate With Other NFL QB's

How Did Joe Ferguson Rate With Other NFL QB's
Lurker replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely wrong. If anything, Fergy shouldered the blame for the failures of his teammates too much, rather than holding them accountable like Kelly did. If Joe had a failing, he was too humble to be an NFL QB and internalized the poor results the mediocre coaching/personnel decisions saddled him with. Probably had something to do with the fact he was thrust into the starting role as a rookie and had to take command of the ship too early... -

How Did Joe Ferguson Rate With Other NFL QB's
Lurker replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO, Joe was a lot like Fitz with a stronger arm. Good enough to win with a better supporting cast, but not a guy who could carry a team on his back. Which describes 80% of the NFL QBs who ever played. As a 3rd round pick (57 overall), I'd say he lived up to and even exceeded his expected value as a Bill. Some interesting bullet points per Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Ferguson "Ferguson placed in the top 10 in pass attempts five times, completions and passing yards four times, passing touchdowns six times, and yards per pass three times. At one time he shared, with Ron Jaworski, the NFL record for consecutive starts by a quarterback with 107, until he was replaced by Joe Dufek on September 30, 1984. He has a 1-3 record in the NFL postseason, winning against the New York Jets in 1981. His three losses came from the Cincinnati Bengals in those same playoffs, the San Diego Chargers the year before in 1980 (a game in which he played the entire contest with a sprained ankle), and in 1974 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He retired after the 1990 season after playing only one game with the Colts. Ferguson's best season came in the 1975 campaign, when he tied Fran Tarkenton for the NFL lead with 25 touchdown passes and compiled a passer rating of 81.3. Ferguson also surpassed 20 touchdown passes on three other occasions (1980, 1981 & 1983). Ferguson is one of few quarterbacks who started immediately as a rookie, and his team won four of his first six starts. He is one of only two rookie quarterbacks to accomplish this feat, being joined by the Atlanta Falcons' Matt Ryan in 2008.
