  1. Probably working. There are 50,000 people in the central business district every day. And with more downtown residential living units coming on line every month, the urban population is headed in the right direction. Esmonde's column is yet another phony list of reasons 'why we can't support the Bills...'
  2. Sad but true. The straw man in this whole discussion is that the Bills have to have a revenue stream on par with the Cowboys or Redskins, otherwise the team is a gone. A new stadium that generates 10%-20% more revenue per season (to cover debt service), with the option to be a multi-use venue (and hence a totally new and incremental revenue stream on top of what OBD can produce) should be more than enough to keep the Bills in WNY. That's not a particularly difficult or unattainable goal.
  3. Yep, that's how the system works...
  4. I think of it in terms of the car sales analogy--it's not the sticker price that matters, it's the monthly payment. If PSL's can be amoritized over 48 months, the buying power equation gets a lot more favorable.
  5. I'm curious why 'vanity sites' like the one linked by the OP carry any water with people? Danny Kelly's opinion is just another fart in the wind, given legitimacy by a bit of fancy html code.
  6. A segment of TSW will post anything out of boredom or to slack off from work. This thread is exhibit A for that premise...
  7. [ Hey, stop being so reasonable! This is a thread to bash ex-Bills....no need to present anything but disdain, envy, ad hominem broadsides, snark, etc.
  8. Even more disturbing to me is that Steve Pigeon has wormed his way into the discussion as a lobbyist. Pigeon's a turd who even makes Donald Trump look respectable. http://www.buffalonews.com/city-region/developers-700-million-plan-for-west-seneca-plaza-could-include-new-stadium-20140528 "Pigeon and longtime business associate Gary R. Parenti also have just formed a lobbying firm that, according to Albany records, has been paid $116,000 by Congel's company to represent it before the Town of West Seneca." It reflects poorly on Golisano's judgement that he seems to repeatedly partner up with such snake oil salesmen as Pigeon and Congel (or even Larry Quinn, although I wouldn't put him in quite the same category as the other two).
  9. Cool! It would bring new meaning to the phrase, "getting wasted at the Bills game...." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfohl_Brothers_Landfill
  10. I made a point to drive by the site tonight on my way home. IMO, it's just too small for a modern NFL pleasure palace, especially in terms of parking (it'd probably require ramps, rather than surface parking, adding millions to the price tag). Sort of a size 10 foot and a size 7 shoe. I then jogged over to Abbott Road and drove by the Ralph. It literally has twice the acreage of the West Seneca site. I can't see Andy Cuomo ponying up $$$ for another suburban white elephant, when putting something downtown would kill more than two birds with one stone...
  11. The Bills are NOT moving to Rochester...
  12. Google the other 31 teams and get back to us with the results--then we can debate the 'luck' part...
  13. The Seneca Mall site seems a bit too small, IMO. It would need significantly more of the adjacent land to be acquired for parking. That said, both a Mighty Taco and a Wegman's within walking distance....gold mine!
  14. If you want to stay downtown, these are the best choices, IMO: http://embassysuites3.hilton.com/en/hotels/new-york/embassy-suites-buffalo-BUFESES/index.html http://buffalobrewerydistrict.com/lafayette/home Just realize, it's a 25-30 minute drive to the stadium if you leave early on game day (or much longer if you don't).
  15. "Donald Trump, new owner of the Buffalo Bills, said [ ]..."
  16. That was the original intent of putting the Central Terminal where it is...in 1929! How'd that work out for us? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Central_Terminal "Buffalo was a quickly growing city at the time, and it was believed that before long Central Terminal's area would become closer to the center of a sprawing metropolis of 1.5 million people. The City was not so sure, but planning was well underway in 1924, despite the lack of an agreement at the time." Somewhere in the Canalside area is the best choice, IMO.
  17. Too funny, indeed...
  18. Very nice interview, Ken. I really enjoyed the history lesson...
  19. Edited for clarity...
  20. So let's all get invited to the White House. When can you be there to hold my place in line?
  21. As I write this post, I'm sitting in a 12th floor guestroom of the Baltimore Hilton looking down on Camden Yards across the street and M&T Stadium right behind it. If Buffalo could score even 20% of the vibe that Baltimore has with its downtown stadiums, it would be a game changer of epic proportions in terms of the city's economic future. Gotta go with somewhere adjacent to Buffalo's inner harbor--the synergies trump all other possible locations floated to date, IMO...
  22. Yep, he'll love the summer at SJF, for sure... http://newsok.com/oklahoma-state-college-football-notebook-east-centrals-caleb-holley-spencer-bond-forming-on-and-off-the-field-bond/article/3900025 "In an odd twist, the cooler weather might be helping Holley's performance.... The Oklahoma heat in August and September caught Holley off guard. “Oh, I was cryin' — I almost passed out,” Holley said with a laugh. “I kept saying, ‘How do you keep practicing and playing in this weather?' It was just so hot when I first got here ... but then again, I'm not fond of the weather back home. It's already freezing up there.” Another interview. Seems like a nice kid... http://www.chatsports.com/notre-dame-fighting-irish/a/Draft-Diamonds-Prospect-Interview-Caleb-Holley-WR-East-Central-1-9775827
