  1. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/O/OrtoKy00.htm So far this year, he has the second highest completion percentage and yards per game of his career....
  2. How about instilling a resilient "we believe" attitude that is JOB ONE for any head coach. And getting his players to play for each other, through thick and thin, and buy into the shared goals and objectives. These are skills that are very hard to define and find--and the reason so many NFL HC's flame out, IMO. I'm not putting Marrone anywhere near the same category, but how many people actually thought Parcells called offensive plays or designed schemes for the Giants? Or Mike Tomlin for the Steelers? It's remarkable (to me anyhow) how many TSW-ers focus on play calling (when in fact for any given snap the QB has several options that are out of the hands of the OC or HC, as do the WRs in terms of their sight reads) and don't see the cultural 'big picture' of what coaches really do--set the tone, put players in position to use their skills, and then trust (hope) that those players execute. Marrone's far from perfect. But he's the first Bills coach in a long time that has the players 'buying in' and fighting, not folding when it would be easy to do so.
  3. To my naked eye, he seems to be too heavy. He's got more of a gut/butt than I remember last year when he was 'longer' looking. It may be robbing him of his footspeed/footwork. He also doesn't seem to display the arm extension that was his biggest asset as a rookie. Then again, this is the NFL and there is now a 'book' on him.
  4. Not having a top-20 NFL QB, and then having him work with a rookie and two second-year WRs, a merely serviceable TE and just three average NFL starter quality OL might make you go that route. But hey, let's not look reality in the face. This is TSW, afterall...
  5. Nice. Another spot on TSW analysis...
  6. +1 Keep holding the fort on making these kind of solid, reasoned arguments...there's so little of it left on TSW.
  7. This place has become one big selfie...
  8. Van Pelt had a year of NFL Europe coaching experience, while Metzelars had 8 years in the NFL before joining the Bills. I took Graham's piece to imply that Darryl wanted a coaching job without having any coaching experience, which to my knowledge, the Bills have never done with a former player. My brother lives in the same Orlando suburb as Darryl and has met him many times over the years, both professionally and during off hours. The loss of his jersey barrier business during the Great Recession seems to have been the biggest trigger to his downward spiral. I hope he and his family can get the help they need to overcome their financial and physical problems...
  9. Yeah, that's about the state of this board. Half a dozen interesting posters and multitudes of dumb asses....
  10. Classic. TSW's de-evolution continues to gather steam...
  11. Too bad they couldn't turn Bristol off entirely for that period...
  12. TSW manic depression....
  13. Done by your 28th post...pretty impressive, even by TSW standards.
  14. In a day full of stupid threads, this is my winner. Discussing the possibilities of DM being fired is the epitome of useless TSW self-flagellation....
  15. Yep, it's the Golden Rule of the Interweb...
  16. Highly doubtful. Kiper sold his book long before the ESPN gig, so he might have a bit of revenue coming in on top of the TV money. OTOH, McShay's just an employee (who's lucky to be to employed), so there's no way he's earning a six-figure paycheck like most GMs...
  17. Ain't it the truth...although I suspect that trait runs a lot deeper than just a critique of E.J.'s performance.
  18. Now they have expectations to fill. That's a lot harder role to play than 'nobody expects us to win'... (seems like only yesterday TSW was talking about the Kids Day crowd booing them off the field)
  19. Same for the Bills. Huge, emotional home win against biggest divisional rival...first place for first time in eons...getting respect and league-wide buzz...staying home trying to focus on the week ahead where it will be easy to get caught up in the fans' euphoria. This is going to be a major, major challenge...
  20. Good thing the HOF committee never said that about Marv...
  21. You're joking, right? A CEO who tells his GM to "be bold" (i.e., do what you think will help the team win) is "meddling?" A five letter word that starts with "T" comes to mind...
  22. Nah...we need Saban. "They're killing me, Whitey. They're killing me..."
  23. Nope, not how I remembered it. After TD, Ralph wanted someone he could trust (Marv) in the role. And when that blew up, he turned to Russ because he trusted him as well. Ralph's angst over the Donohoe catastrophe seemed to color all his latter-year personnel decisions. Russ tried to fill the GM role for a year but quickly pulled Buddy in (another old guy Ralph felt comfortable with) and went back to his non-football operations responsibilities. IMO, Ralph's mercurial personnel decisions have been at the heart of the the team's poor play for virtually his entire ownership tenure. That chapter of the Bills' saga has ended and is unlikely to be repeated under TP... Amazing...
