  1. Doubtful. Just shows how little PFT understands of the front office role Brandon plays.
  2. "I think in my career it's the one thing we haven't done or we haven't tried," Williams said. "Hopefully with the way we competed this year, the spirit we had this year, close but no cigar. My dad always used to tell me close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, but I think we've got an opportunity to be a good football team going forward. it would always be a setback if you have massive, massive overhaul. Like I said, that's the one thing we haven't done is have continuity." http://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2015/01/buffalo_bills_players_hoping_not_to_lose_jim_schwartz_think_he_deserves_chance_t.html
  3. Hard to believe Bill saw Marrone (who he liked) bailing like this. The front office is in rebuilding mode now, which is way more than a consulting gig...
  4. Those comments make sense. The landscape has shifted dramatically from simply looking over the operations and providing counsel to Whaley.
  5. Better get out the eraser.
  6. Well, Terry must think drilling holes in the ground was a lot more fun than this...
  7. Then that's pretty stupid. Players have to think in terms of the "here and now" because for them, the clock is always ticking and an injury can happen at any time. On the other hand, coaching is a people business. It's about the relationships you develop in the 'fraternity' and the ability to convince positional guys and coordinators to work for you. Or earn the trust of front office guys with long memories. Or all the other behind-the-scenes types that make up the NFL, which is in many ways a closed society. If his Buffalo staff gets shitcanned, that will "leave a mark" on Marrone's ability to get guys to work for him. He'll always be crippled unless he gets extremely lucky in the next year or two and catches lightning in a bottle...
  8. Bupkis. NFL and FSB college coaches make in excess of $2 million a year. Marrone was going to get paid here, there or wherever. A $4 million check is peanuts in this situation, where the lowest paid NFL HC makes $3.5 million per. Coaches aren't like players--he's only 50 and has 10-15 years of earning power left. What he gave up (reputation, credibility) was worth a lot more. If he goes to the Jests and they have a bad year, the media hordes (including national) will be ruthless and unabating, to the point his HC future may be jepordized. Not a smart move, IMO...
  9. A lot can change between now and training camp, especially if a guy like Polian's back in the mix. There'll be an Orton-level guy (or even slightly better) shake out somewhere, even if it's not apparent who that is today. The way I see it, Marrone came from running the whole show at Syracuse and never seemed to accept that he was only one voice in the management structure at OBD. If Polian comes back, Marrone's input is that much smaller. If he goes to the Jests, I can see him convincing Woody Johnson to give him more control over the entire football operation. That, and that alone, may have been enough to cause him to pull the plug...
  10. I agree. This whole topic is a media-driven whore-fest. The 'Snooze staff seems to have no limits anymore on how low they'll go to capture eyeballs...Vic (who I had high hopes from with his return) included.
  11. You can add his coaching staff as well...
  12. Sort of like Polian did in 1987, his second year as GM...
  13. Wow, pot meet kettle. Who'd a thunk it...
  14. What u talk'n about Willis? Russ grew up n East Syracuse but went to school at SJF...
  15. Woody says goodie... http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/jets-interested-doug-marrone-woody-calls-good-news-article-1.2062548
  16. Yep. Whaley was there from 1999 to 2009 and the Chin from 1992 to 2006. Seven years together...
  17. Anybody in OP want to get a pre-midnight drink and check it out? http://www.davidsgrille.com/
  18. Nah, I don't see Peg's as another Ralph. I suspect he told Marrone he wasn't going to make any contract commitments until after Polian comes on board next month and that Doug said pound sand.
  19. Wow...step away for dinner and come back to this. Thought SDS might be testing out his new server until I saw it was legit. Being a Bills fan sure brings the drama...
  20. Moore's 25 career starts are a worry (only a few more than E.J.'s 14 and well behind Orton's 82). He's be a good backup candidate, however...
  21. http://coacheshotseat.com/NFLCoachesSalaries.htm
  22. I agree, I thought Moore played pretty well...but that was three years ago. Since 2011, he's had a total of 29 pass attempts with a single TD. The rust and age is probably too much at this point...
  23. In my experience, the same thing can be said for high level business executives and professionals. WNY's a great place to live if you've got enough Benjamins...
  24. God, no!! Please don't link his name to anything other than beer vendor with the Bills. Koelmel's the anti-Russ. A pompous gas bag who's universally laughed at in the Buffalo banking community. The personification of that old Texas saying, "all hat, no cattle..."
