  1. Given this quote from Beane in today's Buffalo News, I suspect that's where we'll see him this year. “For a bigger guy, we thought he had enough athletic ability to play tackle,” Bills General Manager Brandon Beane said. “We also think he could definitely slot into guard. I think some people in the league viewed him as a guard only, worried, ‘Was he too big to play out there on the edge?’ That’ll be his biggest challenge, is playing speed.”
  2. Pretty weak arguments, IMO. "A company stating what they want does not make it the law" A subscriber checking the "I agree" box on the terms and conditions registration form makes it a binding legal agreement. "Editorial use is why you can do movie reviews with edited clips, and news commentary, with edited clips, AND sports analysis with edited clips on the commercial entity YouTube" Movie review clips are provided by studios to reviewers--they are not just copied willy nilly from the actual movie. News commentary is in the public domain. Pro sports analysis (using copyrighted footage) can be found on the Internet but its essentially whack a mole--most of those clips get taken down if the league goes to the trouble of enforcing their rights. "people often post game and all-22 clips HERE on TBD - a site which makes money by running ads!" Individual posters get nothing for posting here. SDS making money on ads is irrelevant and not at all similar to Cover 1 charging for premium content.
  3. How did this thread morph from Eric not getting a press pass to so much talk about cease and desist orders?
  4. And yet, 50,000 workers in the Central Business District deal with it everyday. A 60,000 seat stadium in Cobblestone District would be a walk in the park, except for the fact a lot more alcohol would be involved...
  5. That All 22 subscription "right of usage" agreement states it is for personal , non-commercial use only--like virtually all other subscription agreements do. http://www.nfl.com/help/terms?template=mobile-light&confirm=true 1. I subscribe to the Tidal music service which give me virtually unlimited access to recorded (i.e., copyright protected) albums. That doesn't mean I get to download and re-edit the material so I can personally benefit from that transformation of the original IP...
  6. They're taking the entire 60 minute game film to distill those selected clips into something they then try to monetize and profit from (i.e., premium content). Its a grey area, for sure, but one I suspect Cover 1 would lose in a court of law if the NFL really wanted to get serious with him....
  7. In general, no. While a few units in Waterfront Village might be an attractive long-term play, real estate values depend on three things (yes, location and location are two of them). The third one is population growth and Buffalo does not (and likely will not) have that...
  8. Fair use doesn't imply unlimited usage. https://fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/fair-use/what-is-fair-use/ What Is Fair Use? In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner. In other words, fair use is a defense against a claim of copyright infringement. If your use qualifies as a fair use, then it would not be considered an infringement. Most fair use analysis falls into two categories: (1) commentary and criticism, or (2) parody. Commentary and Criticism If you are commenting upon or critiquing a copyrighted work—for instance, writing a book review—fair use principles allow you to reproduce some of the work to achieve your purposes. Some examples of commentary and criticism include: quoting a few lines from a Bob Dylan song in a music review summarizing and quoting from a medical article on prostate cancer in a news report copying a few paragraphs from a news article for use by a teacher or student in a lesson, or copying a portion of a Sports Illustrated magazine article for use in a related court case. The underlying rationale of this rule is that the public reaps benefits from your review, which is enhanced by including some of the copyrighted material.
  9. IMO, Rex lost his work ethic and passion or the Monday-Saturday grind after year one here. He was always supremely flawed as a HC, but he seemed to just loose all interest in managing things and was already looking ahead to a broadcasting career...
  10. Nonsense.. There will always be a market for local news, sports coverage and coupons. Whether those beats will draw enough ad revenue to cover costs is the big question regional paper suffer with. My father-in-law was also a life-long newspaperman and we had many, many discussions about this. Regional newspapers will survive by dropping the national/international section, which the Buffalo News essentially already has by using Washington Post/New York Times content for 95% of that coverage. But sections B and C (especially C, in sports towns like Buffalo) will still find an audience if done well...

  12. I have no problem with the Bills/NFL stance on IP ownership because of this:

  15. I'd put that characterization more on the Boomers, who've made a real mess of the country (I'm one myself, so I fell bad about how things turned out for the 'flower power' generation). The millennials I know and work with give me hope that things will get better. Yes, they don't have the same work ethic as their greedy older sibs and parents--who were motivated by money, status, money, social climbing and money--but they're much more in tune with technology and how to use it efficiently, more conscious of diversity being a good thing and less judgmental/prejudiced about the state of the world. Other than a soaring national debt, bankrupt social security fund and climate change, things should be OK when they take the reigns... Go Boomer, go...
  16. Man, your stereotypes are out of date. While the Buffalo area population is flat, it's not because of young people leaving. It's the 35-54 year olds who are leaving (mid-career folks with skill sets that no longer match what Buffalo's become), which also results in fewer children per capita. Millennials on the other hand are thriving: https://www.upstartny.org/inthenews/Buffalo-outpaces-national-average-in-growth-of-young-adult-population.aspx "The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2016 American Community Survey, released early this year, shows the City of Buffalo’s growth in 25- to 34-year-olds outpaces the national average, placing it 22nd at 13.4 percent growth. That outpaces 58 of the 79 cities identified in the study." https://www.wkbw.com/news/buffalo-ranked-12th-among-cities-where-millennials-are-moving "Buffalo, Cheektowaga and Niagara Falls collectively rank 12th among American cities as destinations for a growing millennial population. A Time magazine report looking at research from the Urban Land Institute found that many of the cities seeing the most relative growth are actually smaller cities."
  17. Well, Carter did score one more TD in college than Knox did...
  18. Fixed... https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-mtb-renovations-20190722-4xl77fu4jbgghj7l75z3mwplsa-story.html "The 16 new escalators were added to the 500 level to address long-standing complaints from fans. Ravens President Dick Cass said they will help longtime season ticket holders who find they are not as young as they were when they bought their seats." “I think the upper-bowl experience will be enhanced,” he said.
  19. Lol! You must have skipped economics class with Ferris. Private sector job growth in the Baltimore metro area has been much faster than Buffalo. Since 2016, its up 1.4% annually vs. 0.6% in Buffalo. So far this year, the gap is 1.3% vs. 0.7%. Even in the "rat infested" City of Baltimore, employment growth has topped the comparable rate in the City of Buffalo (1.1% vs. 0.9) so far this year...
  20. Clearly no human being would want to live there...let alone watch the Ravens.
  21. "This upset one of their party because they’d specifically booked a cruise with no fancy dress." Love that line....
